Hello fellow Bisoprolol buddies - I cannot actually believe that I didn't think of doing a search on Bisoprolol earlier as it is so comforting to have discovered this web page. I have been taking Bisoprolol Fumarate 5mg daily for the past 3 years following a frightening episode in town which resulted in my spending a week in the Cardiac ward of our local hospital. I had SVT while in hospital and the 'specialists' couldn't actually put a cause to my soaring blood pressure and rapid heartbeat. So, I've been told to stay on these tablets for life... I'm 48 now, was 45 then.

The comforting thing about reading the majority of these posts is that so many people are feeling ridiculous levels of tiredness; I don't recognise myself from 3 years ago. This isn't whingeing, just stating a fact. I have piled on the pounds - particularly blubby around my midriff - yet I eat less than ever. I am sometimes so overcome by exhaustion that I have to stop even the most trivial of chores. I have lost my 'get up and go', yet used to be so active with my three kids. I used to be so house proud, yet now can'tbe bothered other than to 'keep on top' of the housework. I used to love socialising, again, can't be bothered most of the time and when I do, I am glad when it is over. I love the peace and quiet of my own company so much more now and feel exhausted by company. Yet I AM ONLY 48 YEARS OLD!!!

I realise I am lucky to be alive, to be uncursed by serious ills, but still, it is healthy to have a little moan now and then, and gratifying to feel online empathy with other 'sufferers'. I find that my partner and children don't really understand - can't blame them, I don't truly either.

Take care one and all.

    Hi All

I have permanent Afib and I'm 66 years old.

I was on Bisoprolol for years and suffered from fatigue, I remember the feeling of not wanting to do anything and sitting on the sofa all day.

I used to look at my mountain bike in my garage and think I'll never ride that again.

I changed from Bisoprolol to Metoprolol.

I now cycle 3 times a week (usually to a country pub) and my wife says I'm more alert.

I have lost 2 of the 5 stone I put on when on Bisoprolol.

I still feel tired most of the time, but I have regained a bit of my get up a go that I lost when I was taking 5mg of Bisoprolol a day.

I now take 50mg of Metoprolol twice a day.

    Regards

    Mike

So many report extreme fatigue to be the worst side effect of this drug, fatigue so extreme that sometimes your brain no longer has enough energy for simple things like talking or keeping your balance.

Over three years since I took any medicine, but this side effect never went away.

Just a couple of days back, I found the following link, and on looking, have found others, linking beta blockers to Mitochondrial Disorder, and what is this condition?, mainly the cells of the body not being able to produce enough energy to function properly.

I have e-mailed this link to my GP, she had asked to let her know of any other ideas as she had run out of them.

hello, is anyone still active on this forum? i plan on stopping Bisoprolol soon. as i do not want to rely on this medication forever.

    i am on 5mg. 2.5 morning and 2.5 night.

i have inappropriate sinus tachycardia but its not too severe.

before i started Bisoprolol in January my resting heart rate was between 90-101. whilst on Bisoprolol my Resting HR is 80. a couple of weeks ago i stopped taking it (weaning off over a couple weeks)

my heart rate has never been so high! i thought i was going to die and couldn't stop shaking with fear.

am i going to have to stay on this forever? i feel hopeless and don't know what to do 😦

      Hi Maxine,

I'm not sure if you're still active on here but I've read through all of these forums and your situation is the closest to mine that I can find. I'm 25 and was also put on Bisoprolol by the hospital for sinus tachycardia that no one can explain to me why I have. My heart used to go up to 200bpm for 7 hours at a time. I've been fobbed off with anxiety disorders that I don't have and told that "this is just the way I am" and to live with it - as if I can!

I was on Bisoprolol for 7 months, the last 2 of those weaning off. I went from at my highest 6.25mg a day down to 1.25mg and then down to small chips of about 0.3mg before coming off. The withdrawal has been horrific. I've had extreme palpitations, rebound tachy, muscle spasms, difficulty swallowing, hallucinations, secondary Raynaud's turning my toes almost black, extremely low blood pressure, nausea, slurring speech which took me into A&E to the stroke team, anxiety, sweating, breathlessness, insomnia... I am now 30 days completely off this poison but still suffering tremendously. How has your situation been? Were you able to come off them - is so, how was your withdrawal?

      Wishing you well.

      Hi Rebecca,

I was on biso for about 6 months for SVT.

I decided to have an ablation, and the doctor told me to just stop it 5 days prior to ablation. I asked if just stopping was okay and he said it was just fine.

      I went into complete withdrawal.

The sad thing about this is that I did not at the time know it was withdrawal. I thought it was anxiety, and made the mistake of seeing my Gp. He told and prescribed klonopin and trazadone.

Stupid me starting taking both and got me in such a mess. I took both for about 1 1/2 years and then had the horror show of having to slowly wean off. That took about 9 months, and then went through protracted withdrawal for atleast 18 months after.

If I had known there was withdrawal symptoms with biso, I would never had put myself into this situation.

Doctors do not have clue. They just tell me coming off biso cold turkey would not make this happen

      I know better!!!!!!

      Hi Lola,

Sorry for the late reply - you sound like you've been to hell and back!! The doctors don't have a clue and don't care to. When I spoke with my cardiologist and explained my symptoms, she simply stared straight through me. They just don't care. I also was advised to start an anti anxiety med - Diazepam. I was even told that if it reduces my symptoms, that then proves i have anxiety!! Since when do doctors prescribe this way? I've never suffered with anxiety, I KNOW this is withdrawal. The fob offs are belittling and frustrating

I'm now 11 weeks off the drug but still suffering with muscle tremors, palpitations, breathing difficulty and tiredness. How are you getting on?

Hi Rebecca , i hope that you are now ok , I was in Bisoprolol just two months I was taking 10 mg ,Because my blood pressure is a little high, and it was the worst day of my life. I became like an old man. My body shivering, cold feet, dizziness, dizziness and ringing in the ears. I stopped taking it only after two months of using it. Loss of energy most of the time, foggy head and dizziness sometimes I feel better, but the adrenaline in our bodies is rushing with force. I give up and I have no solution but to take vitamins. I do not want to be negative, but I am afraid that it will not come out of my body. I am 39 years old, I admit that the tinnitus with time has improved, I just feel With a band in the ear, but ringing in the ears. Note: Do not ask the doctor, because it will worsen your condition. Do not use any medication. Pregnancy and time will end this despicable drug that caused me anxiety and incomprehensible fear

Note : I haven't taken medication for 20 months and still a lot of withdrawal

Have any of you experienced long-term withdrawal effects from Bisprol? For example, strings in the eyes when I look forward. I feel like there are spider-shaped strings while looking with fluttering of the eyelashes.
