Hello fellow Bisoprolol buddies - I cannot actually believe that I didn't think of doing a search on Bisoprolol earlier as it is so comforting to have discovered this web page. I have been taking Bisoprolol Fumarate 5mg daily for the past 3 years following a frightening episode in town which resulted in my spending a week in the Cardiac ward of our local hospital. I had SVT while in hospital and the 'specialists' couldn't actually put a cause to my soaring blood pressure and rapid heartbeat. So, I've been told to stay on these tablets for life... I'm 48 now, was 45 then.

The comforting thing about reading the majority of these posts is that so many people are feeling ridiculous levels of tiredness; I don't recognise myself from 3 years ago. This isn't whingeing, just stating a fact. I have piled on the pounds - particularly blubby around my midriff - yet I eat less than ever. I am sometimes so overcome by exhaustion that I have to stop even the most trivial of chores. I have lost my 'get up and go', yet used to be so active with my three kids. I used to be so house proud, yet now can'tbe bothered other than to 'keep on top' of the housework. I used to love socialising, again, can't be bothered most of the time and when I do, I am glad when it is over. I love the peace and quiet of my own company so much more now and feel exhausted by company. Yet I AM ONLY 48 YEARS OLD!!!

I realise I am lucky to be alive, to be uncursed by serious ills, but still, it is healthy to have a little moan now and then, and gratifying to feel online empathy with other 'sufferers'. I find that my partner and children don't really understand - can't blame them, I don't truly either.

Take care one and all.

Kenny, My husband had heart attack sent home on meds little advice etc given but took meds as he was anxious. Son had heart attack and 2 stents but was in different area and even though concerned had good after care...not sure if heart uk, but it was very helpful... he also took meds. Yet you are reluctant more than likely due to you needing more care and info. So hope all gets sorted out soon. Were you pretty fit previously or did it just happen. My ticker plays up at times but rekon doing fine now so lucky. It's just that doctors have to make sure all goes well now for you and look after damage done also keep stents . So if you do get a chance ask ask ask for information also reabilitation care if wanted. Mind you it didn't help my husbands situation. So all the best for now.

Has anyone had digoxin and bisoprolol prescribed to be taken together? I am still unhappy with my cardio doc decision to prescribe both! I'm 67 have A/F permanent but have no other heart problems. I am continuing my 2.5mgs bisoprolol reduced the dose from 5mgs without my GPs approval! and I continue with aspirin. I wish my cardio doc had fully explained his decision. i can't understand why he didn't try another beta blocker or a calcium blocker. He has prescribed Digoxin which is normally for over 75 yr olds and people with heart problems extra to their A/F.

Still thinking of asking for another opinion.

Has anyone been checked put by a heart cadio at Broad green hosp Liverpool? Hope someone can answermy 2 questions and hop

Hello, My husband  takes bisoprolol and digoxin since September, plus another anti coagulant. He does takes beta blockers, anti cholesterol, anti blood pressure and diuretics too and an ACE. the only tablet for heart problems  he does not take is for angina I think! He is younger that 70 years old.

thank you both for responding,... i can't get an appointment with my GP for 2 weeks it does seem as though they expect us to take the pills and carry on regardless....what i have decided to do is go onto a raw food diet for next 3 months and try to find the right food combinations to help cleanse the body, the sad thing i find about the medical profession GP'S in particular is they seem very biased towards pharmaceuticals for one reason or another...are their pensions tied up in the shares of these companies?, i really do have a mistrust of pharmaceutical companies because of the amount of profit that seems to be in sickness for them. i am not in anyway being critical about the specialist in their field of expertise, the surgeon who performed on me did a fantastic job and i am very gratefully to him...it's the peripheral part that has some serious issues that need to be addressed

Hello all....I have been reading all your interesting posts but only now feel well enough to respond!

Yup - that is the effect the Bisopralol has on me too.....these dratted GP's and their "non-touch- technique" .....they never actually examine you and then expect to be able to diagnose what is wrong...grrr

I have refused point blank to take STATINS ever again and am gradually reducing the Bisopralol - with my GP reluctant agreement! Why on earth he put me on the maximum which is 10mg of the stuff I don't know and when I queried it - he tried to blame the consultant cardiologist - but I was ready for that as he had put me on the stuff many months before I was ever seen by the specialist. That caught him out - so he then agreed to lower the dose. They want me on warfarin as well - but again I have refused .

I just still feel like I am plodding through treacle and my "gait initiation" is so awful these days I am forced to walk with a stick when out .

All my spinal scans and CT scans etc have been entirely normal - which annoyed my neurologist no end as he was convinced I had been having TIAs....tough luck - nothing showed up in the brain scan - well I always knew there was nothing between my ears.....LOL

So - it is back to the drawing board yet again and nobody wants to know about the possibility of it being all due to the Bisopralol - and there is no direct equivalent folks - I have researched this very thoroughly and had various cardiologists and physicians advise me that any other drug is not as good as Bisopralol which is cardio-specific for my kind of PAF.

So I plod on - nowt else for it apparently -but I will keep on reducing the dose of the stuff - hopefully!!

I am just about to try 5mg having been on 7.5mg for about two weeks - so fingers crossed!

Never give up the unequal struggle folks - there is always hope!!!!

Hi all , I'm 39 now and on 7.5mg bisoprolol and have been for the last 4 months. It all started about 6 years ago.i came home from work fit as a fiddle no health problems I just sat down as normal had my dinner and a cup of tea and then it hit me, I went into a trance as if my body just died . I couldn't move for about a minute my eyes went funny I could see but only in a straight line I thought I died . Then I like woke up and I jumped up and said to my wife did I just pass out then and she said no . Then all of a sudden my heart started going like the clappers , which at this point I said to my wife call ambulance something not right , I think my hearts going to stop . I went out for some fresh air to try and calm down but I couldn't slow my heart down and was panicking like mad.. Anyway by the time I got to hospital I was fine heart rate normal so they let me home. A few days later this is all I could think about , and wondering if it will happen again . It didn't until 6 months later . I went to bed and as soon as I lied down I felt the room spinning this started worrying me so I didn't feel right and went for a drink of water . But as I got up I felt as if I was going to drop to the floor and die. Thought it was a panic attack so after calming down I got to sleep . Over the next year that's all I was doing is worrying every time I went to bed I couldn't sleep on my left side because I could feel my heart and thought it was going to stop , so I used to sleep half sitting up. But this would only last for a week or so then I would be fine. I was in work about another 6 months later and whilst driving my lorry I sort of slumped at the wheel for a split second it felt like I passed out and woke up . This realy frightens me and told my mate to drive as I felt unwell , over the past next few month I started struggling in work no energy tired all the time and put it down to getting to old to carry washing mashing up and down stairs so I jacked my job in I had had for 10 years and loved I never said to anyone in work it didn't feel right I just said its to muck for me now and going to try something different. Started thinging wasts going on with me I never feel well I'm always tired every few months I would feel I'm going to just fall down . This cement on for a few more months until we was on holiday I was drinking loads of shorts with coke and the next day I was realy ill and I thought is the cans of coke because I started getting loads of heart burn , this is great I thought I now wats wrong with me . Got home from holiday I was fine but then a week later after having no coke or Pepsi it hit me hard whole body stopped I went into a trance like I couldn't see then my heart started going like the clappers again after calming my self down I thought that's it I'm not right dr time. On Monday this was Friday . Sat nite came and my heart started skipping beats like stopping and starting again with a bang. Or I'm so scared what's going on sweating hot then cold feel like I'm going to die. Anyway went to the doctors Monday and I was having these heart skips and he told me you have a attopic heart beat very normal common the main thing is don't panic things like coke , red bull , tea all make it worse just cut out the caffeine and I will book you to see heart specialist in to have scan . I couldn't believe it every time I felt ill I would have a cup of tea making my self worse . I did drink loads of coke and red bull every day I thought I no wat it is I'm fine I'm not going to drop dead , I just sat in my car and cryed with relief . I started feeling better no more caffeine but was still getting attopic heart beats but tryed to ignore them. I had the odd dizzy spell every month but felt I'm fine just relax . So I had my heart scan and I was a bit nervous everytine they turned me on my left side my heart rate would go up and had to stop . A few weeks later back up the dr I have a fast heart rate and need beter blockers , they started my on 2.75mg now I'm on 7.5mg and got to see doctor every month . And anothe heart scan in November. I still don't feel very good have the odd dizzy spell and atopic beats every day but I'm haven't had the whole body stoping experience which I'm glad of cause that realy scared me, anyway people the reason I have gone into length is to explane how this started for me and after reading othe peoples I no we are not alone because it is hard to explain how we / I feel . It has ruined my life for the last 6 years thinking back giving up my job and all . But I have a wonderfull family who is helping and I love them to bits . Feel free to comment I look forward to talking more about it ..

Do any of you have weak legs when standing? I am not so weak when walking. is this a side effect of taking bisoprolol 2.5 mgs or the a/fib (permanent) or is it stress ? Maybe its a combination of all 3!
  • Posted

Yes, weak shaky legs are part and parcel of taking bisoprolol.

I take just 1.25mg and still have the side effects, but this drug has fewer nasty side effects than other beta

Blockers I have taken recently, it's just a question of finding the right one for you, and having an understanding GP or cardiologist.

Thanks for the reply. I had thought it may be the bisoprolol. I am tempted to reduce it to !.25mgs but as ive already reduced it to 2.5mgs without my docs approval then it may be a step too far.Big problem for me is that my GP will not try any other drug and my cardiologist will not accept that i have lousy side effects from bisoprolol. No empathy,no dialogue just a clinical decision only!!!!! I am going to make

an appt with another GP in the same practice. I am sceptical of finding any doc or cardio doc who will listen!

Thankfully I can read stuff on here.

I have tried the newer drug nebivolol. It worked very well on the AF, and lowering heart rate and BP, but side effects were exceptionally heavy legs, dizziness etc. I honestly don't think the lower the dose, the fewer nasty side effects. If you take 2.5 don't reduce it yourself your AF may get much more noticeable.

I want off the beta blockers, but fail to see how I can in was the heart seems to rely on them!

I'm very lucky yo have to exceptional GP.

sorry forgot to ask . Do you have backache when you stand as well as weakness in your legs. the backache

is awful and i feel ok when i sit down. Also do you have a/fib all the time and what is your highest pulse rate. Mine is anywhere between 80 and up to 120 bpm. blood pressure is ok--I think. Do you take aspirin or

warfarin. I don't want to get on the warfarin yet. I'm 67 by the way. cardio said it was rec for a/fib patients over 65. Thanks for listening.

i went to see my gp tuesday and told him i wasn't taking any of my medications for the heart, he agreed that it was ok for me not to take bisoprolol, but to take the ramipril when i asked if by taking the ramipril does this take over the function of the heart so that i then become dependent on this drug, to which he said yes....hence i now don't take either of these chemical drugs, i am now looking further into food nutrients and natural ways to a better healthy life style..gps are constantly under pressure by the pharmaceutical companies to push there chemical drugs onto us

No, no back ache, just tingly and weak legs. My resting heart rate was 120 bpm or thereabouts. It's now good at approx 65-68.

I can't comment on the drugs companies and doctors, I only say I feel my Gp has my best interest at heart and would never prescribe something wrong for any patient. I trust the Gp completely.
