Oh yes .... I remember being very emotional in my first recovery - it can be a roller-coaster emotionally as well as physically.

Yep only this first week, from feeling so so nausea in hospital, not being able to the physio I needed to straight away and then the stockings mainly but lack of sleep at times. But what a difference having the op had made me feel, already, would go through again. I did have a fair amounts of wobbles before hand too but knew I needed to get rid of that debilitating pain.

    hi there,

Oh I am so glad someone else feels like I did after my op!

came home three days after surgery and about a week into recovery, I felt really sensitive and low.

I had many a good cry and even broke down and told my husband that I thought no one loved me because I was a burden to them!

    just felt helpless and useless.

thankfully, it passed and I am now pretty much back to my usual self, five months on! It will pass, don't worry - I think the multitude of medication we are given throws our hormones all over the place!

Let me know how you get on!

Am here if you need a shoulder!

I'm five months out, walking without a cane or any assistance ... and I have to say this has been one of the most frustrating journeys I've been on in quite a way.

My recovery has been a lot slower than I had hoped for ... and I've reached points of utter frustration and despair. And here's the thing. My surgery was not a disaster. I'm walking pretty well ... but it seems the stiffness, the soreness moves from place to place. I make one adjustment, then there's another weak spot ... and on and on ...

So no ... you don't need to be tougher ... Surgery requires an enormous amount of will and adrenaline ... and I think there is a fall afterwards ... There are the lucky few who are up and walking fine in days ... and then exercising in weeks ... Those are the lucky few. For most of us recovery is a long slug.

BTW: I'm five months out ... walking with no cane since 2.5 months ... taking little pain medicine in recent days ... feeling like my walking is stronger and stronger each week ... and still I hit those points of frustration ...

I like your post your lucky I have to walk with crutches first 12 weeks was great until my hip dislocated I was just sat on the sofa I had it put back in only for it to pop out the next day so I had to go back to theater and then 10 days traction followed by 1 month in a leg brace 23 hours per day it's never been right since it still hurts plus o have to walk with crutches. Still I know it could be worse any distance I'm in à wheelchair for distance I mentioned to surgeon only to be told I was warned of side effects wish I had money to go private I would get it redone for sure.

I have had my moments before and after each surgery. My emotions is still kinda out there. It has been a year for my left and five months for right. I cried the other day when I saw my surgeon because by God's Grace he gave me a great surgeon and staff. I can walk much better and just slight pain. I am praying for us all.

Hi Cazy - you're not alone. I cried for almost 2 days. When I woke from surgery I felt as though a shark attacked my hip. My son convinced the doctors to send me to in-patient rehab and I started feeling better. Despite what others may say, we all have different experiences and this was very traumatic. So, go ahead and cry and don't be embarrassed nor ashamed to do so. If you can find a therapist or Social Worker to talk to, in or out of the hospital, that would also be a good idea. Go easy and be kind to your self.

Think Clive that you know others go thro it might help. But agree you can't just get over it - it's not that simple. You've had major surgery to hopefully improve your mobility reduce your pain. Most of us have had these symptoms for a few yrs and the hope that the surgery is going to improve our lives ( mine certainly ) is going to be stressful and upsetting. My advice tho ( retired nurse ) if you don't settle see your GP. For a start they will be used to this happening and sometimes it helps to talk to someone out of your immediate family /friends circle. Best wishes anyway

    Hang in there Cazy!

If the operation wasn't Enough, I have a new one for you! Yesterday afternoon I ended up in the ER because of non-stop rectal bleeding and blood clots. So I only had male nurses. They said that I must have an enema so that I could have a bowel movement to ensure that I was no longer bleeding. Plus they had to see everything before a flushing. lying on the bed trying to not beak any of the post op conditions to go through this was too much. This hip has taken too much out of me. I was cathederized in post op for 1.5 litres in a distended belly. I am now laughing through my tears knowing that many of you are saying " Thank God that wasn't me." I cant and wont pull a stiff upper lip any longer!!!

My sister, a veteran of four operations says it is a common problem. I had a case of the blues for a couple of weeks. Felt overwhelmed as a single mum to teenage boys, who were not very sympathetic or helpful in the early days.
