Its natural to be a little anxious post op. I am now four weeks post op, TAH, conservation of ovaries, and removal of bulky, fibroid uterus and tubes. The recovery and associated pain, will dpend on HOW your procedure is done. Mine was through an open surgery, eg bikini line cut.
Take all the pain killers offered, everyone's pain threshold is different, I had pre op spinal pain injection, slow release of opiods post op, and was on a self administered morphine pump..you will need them. Thankfully, I was so drugged up, I was out of it for 2-3 hrs post op...take or ask for anti sickness injection too, I didnt and vomitting after that op was painful, to say the least..
I was kept conmfortable in hoispital with pain releife, take what you can, and use peppermint tea, constipation is a side effect, and I was constipated for 7 days post op..your bowels get a bit shocked by the op...its not all bad, I was very sore and tender as to be expected for the first two weeks. Use a pillow to prop yourself at night when home, and lying on your side. It is amazing how quickly the first stage of recovery happens, eg by the end of week two, I was over the worst , post hospital, its mre like bruising, tenderness, and a fe weird twinges. You MUST at all costs do NOTHING for the first two weeks, lost of rest, gentle walking around the house, listen to your body, and do everything at the pace of a sloth..your body doesnt let you know you have overdo it, until an hour or two later!
I rested up, pottered around each day, and with each day learned what I could and couldnt do, eg laundry etc, but NO VACUUMING!! those muscles have to heal 6-8 weeks. Definitely get doing your pelvic excesises, gentle 'kegels' eg tightening your vagina to get everything going again asap post op....remember that its a long, slow process to complete recoevery,,be kind to yourself, live in loose fitting clothes for the first few weeks, and remember that in the end , its wrth it..you may find Hyster Systers forum helpful, it will all be fine..take care, and take it EASY!

It depends on how you have your op, eg LAVH is a 2 night stay, TAH is 3-4 days, I was in for four days with TAH, and Neverstaystill, if you are having a TAH, build sensible goals, I couldnt walk further then short distances for 2-3 weeks, and managed my first decent walk at week 4, you have to listen to your own body, but I waited until all the twinges, weirdness, pulling etc inside to settle down, you have quite a few hundred internal stitches after a TAH/LAVH, so slow and steady wins the race..and regular naps, I am week four and still get tired after light housework..take it easy, the op will be fine, its not a breeze, its major surgery, but you get through with rest and patience! x

I have to take pre-op drinks also. I start mine on Thursday morning (day before op) and it's clear liquids only all day. I also have to take 4 senekot tablets at 10.00am Thursday. Is that the same as you are having to do?

It totally clears you out! Push the fluids too!!!! My doctor told me that when there is any waste in you during the procedure, it can cause issues.. they can have problems... so I just didnt eat day before. I had ONLY fluids... she said I was perfectly cleaned out! Helped them tremendously! GOOD LUCK

I didnt eat at all that day... just all liquids.. and I was SO CLEAN... dr. told me that it's when women are NOT fully cleared out there could be a possiblity with issues with the bowel/bladder.. it's hard for them to do the procedure with something there. And damage CAN happen.. that terrified me.. so I gave up food for that day before..

So I am concerned.. your dr. did not want you to "clean out" your bowels prior??
I guess we might have different ways to do our procedures from UK to USA...
We have to have faith in our dr's...
I know you will do fine!
