Bladder

Just going to let off some steam here!  Bladder irritation has returned.....needing the toilet all the time and just feeling miserable.  Going away this weekend and not feeling comfortable about it all.  I have been given oestrogen ovules to help and starting taking then stopped as worried about the risks.....started again though and just going to take as can't stand this!!!!!  I am right in the menopause so I know this is what is causing this.  Really hope the medication works. Anyone else have this problem?

    Hi Margaret

Yes i have bladder problems right now,  as you say so uncomfortable too, been like this now for two weeks, urine tests come back clear, mine is in the urethea itself more so, feels horrible a few minutes after going, a heavy aching feeling like some pressure along with just making it to the loo on occasions, must admit the vagifem did help with this but had to stop using them due to bleeding. Dont feel like walking far at the moment, im 64 and been in menapause since 57 now. They say it all dries up and shrinks in both areas.

Hi again, I am dealing with a recurrence of this by taking flax seed oil and vitamin E, they seem to be helping.

I've had bladder problems for years so I can sympathize. It's like I'm always quivering on the cusp of a pee, if that makes any sense. Worse if I'm out and about and can't find a toilet. What compounds it is the fact that I often can't actually pee when I first sit down on the toilet and have to do relaxing breathing exercises to get the urine to come out. Anyone else have this problem? It's really embarassing if I'm in someone else's house as I spend a lot of the time in their toilet.

Hi, I have a small delay when it flares up but not as pronounced as yours seems to be.  I am going to discuss Detrusitol and Amlytriptylene with my GP.  Thanks for your reply.XX

    Hi Margaret

I can feel for you as i also have bladder problems & have done for years, finally was diagnosed with over active bladder & given Detrusitol by my GP it has helped alot, at one time I was up to the toliet every 2 minutes (during the night too) i was so tired & very down with it, it took over my life & couldnt go anywhere, was on many antibiotics as was convinced it was cystitis but the results would always come back negative. I now have allegies to most anti biotics.

I now only get up once during the night but occassionally get a pain that feels like a red hot needle going up my urethra & my bladder feels fizzy (Dr does not understand when i say I have this fizzy feeling, but i cannot sleep with it) it usually last a couple of days then disapears. Does anyone ele get that feeling?

I have been suffering with the urge to pee most of the time.  It came up slowly over the course of a few years after I started menopause.  I thought it was overactive bladder and tried all different medicines that did nothing except make my mouth dry and make me tired, never really cut down on the peeing cause I drank so much from the dryness.  I finally found a doctor (woman doctor, a urogynocologist who said I have Interstitial cystitis.  It is cystitis (inflammation) without infection.  Irritated bladder lining from acidic foods and drinks. I cannot have coffee, chocolate, spicy foods, there is a list.  Just google IC diet and you will see what I mean.  I have to go for treatments.  they put a mixture (a cocktail) of heparin, solu cortef, bicarbonate of soda, lidocaine through a catheter into my bladder.  I hold it in for a couple hours.  I go every 3-4 weeks.  I used to go every week.  Slowly the bladder lining was rejuvenated but I have to be so so careful not to eat or drink anything with acid, or too much salt.  Its horrible.  Bland food, no picnic.  No alcohol or caffeine.  You can get tested for it.  I was diagnosed  based on symptoms.  I had a cystoscopy and it didn't show much so I hope that helps make sense of things for you.  Let me know.  Best wishes........

      Hi

Thank you for your reply after years of backwards and forwards to my GP with what I thought was cystitis I got a very good male Dr who straight away though I should be tested for IC, before I had never heard of it & googled it. I have been tested for IC, I had a cystoscopy & bladder biopsy nothing was found, I was then told I have over active bladder & given medication things have been much better since the cystoscopy, although straight after it my bladder went into spasm & had to be catherterised, passing urine was like shedding glass.

I do feel for you IC is an awful condition & little known about it. I still from time to time get this red hot needle sensation & the fizzyness but instead of rushing to the Dr I just rest as much as possible & after a day or two it passes.

Do hope things improve for you. Big hugs x

Thanks for that info, im thinking i have IC now as my tests always come back clear, i have found caffien and chocolate irritate me and chocoloate especially causes flare ups. Dr told me if i dont feel much better to go back and see ehr to find the root of my feeling u have an UTI all the time, im dreading though the thought of this leading to having tubes with camera passed through my urethea ,must be so uncomfortable surley. the way i feel varys form day to day, sometimes i feel as though its going

then i will go and about three minuyes afterwards i get this awfull burning and throbbing sentation, sometimes i wake up feeling like a bruised feeling over my bladder, and fell even worse in an upright postion, have bee told i have a slight proplapse after having five babys so this must be

putting some pressure on me too. oh what to do next.

      Hi

I am taking Destrusitol. I am loads better than before i started taking it. I was constantly looking for toilets now I can hold for much longer.

It just flare up every 6 months or so, & I can cope with that. Just wondered if anyone else had this red hot needle sensation & the fizzyness. Hope you get the help you need too. x x

Oh i'm so sorry didn't want to scare anyone. Yes I did have it straight after my cystoscope but no one else treated the same day had it, I was told it was rare. The problem i caused myself I think, I drunk far too much too quickly something like 3 litres of water (I was told to drink alot) but afterwards i was told that was too much, ask how much you should drink & you should be fine. it was certainly worth having & I have felt so much better since having it so don't let it put you off. I would certainly go through it again. Hope it goes well. x x
