Bleeding after menopause

I am 59 soon to be 60 yr old, and have started spotting.  I am a woman of faith but I have to admit I am afraid.  It started last week, in the form of old dark colored blood, and since then its been basically a spear everytime I use the restroom, I have been to the gyn and he says the bleeding is coming from my uterus and he is concerned, so its not as if the lining is thick or thin.  He has scheduled a ultrasound next week.  Is there anyone that has experienced bleeding from the uterus.  Please respond, going crazy here with all kinds of thoughts.  Thanks and GOD Bless....

Oh THANK GOD for you ladies.  This is the first time I have reached out to anyone and to get these responses, has truly been a blessing and has eased my mind.  I have my first ultrasound on Tuesday.  My bleeding is coming from the uterus the gyn said.  I have not had a period in about 5 years and all of a sudden, bam...shock and FEAR at what I saw.  My gyn has not given me much information as to why this has happened.  But its good to know Im not alone.  I had taken, for about 5 days an antibiotic prescribed by a dentist for a root canal and, I thought that was the culprit, but my gyn said that only happens to women who are not in memopause and that something was not quite right.  But he did say that it was NOT the lining being thick or thin, it was something else.

Was that antibotic erythromicin? There is several kinds of Antibotics can cause a female to bleed regardless. Hows the bleeding now?  We are here for you 24/7  :-)

Hi Crosado8, the antibotic was amoxicillin (spelling).  I still see a brown light discharge.

Best wishes to you today, c02706. Please let us know how it goes.

I'm going through it too. As you've probably seen, there's a thread around here somewhere about bleeding after menopause that has over 600 replies, so you are far from alone! Most of the time it's nothing of course but better to get it checked out just in case.

After a year and a half of no periods, I'm on day five of the floods and have even considered going to the emergency room a time or two because the bleeding is so heavy. In my case, I believe it is from HRT. I was on 1 mg. Estradiol tablet daily for four months, then the doctor added a 2.5mg generic Provera tablet daily about two weeks ago. After about ten days of that, I got lazy and skipped it for a day or two, which is when this started.

Starting today, I'm taking myself off all HRT. Four months without hot flashes etc. was wonderful. But to me it's just not worth scarily heavy bleeding and having to get a biopsy. Of course, I can't be sure the HRT caused it in my case but from my reading (and the timing) I think it is the most likely cause.

It seems most of the women posting about bleeding after menopause don't mention HRT on here though. I think it is usually just a hormone surge and not nearly as unusual as I once thought. (by the way, I am almost 54).

Also, I do not plan to get the biopsy without some kind of anesthesia or heavy duty prescription painkiller. I am a giant wuss but when I'm all doped up, I couldn't care less! smile
