Bleeding after surgery

3 weeks out from prolapse bladder surgery, interior and posterior wall surgery and spotting fresh blood. I had a hysterectomy years ago, so I'm worried about the fresh blood

Hi Anna, 3 weeks is when your body starts the knitting process in healing and also when a few stitches start coming away, it's extremely common to bleed and you may feel a tightness and pulling in the stitches too lots of us have experienced this.

Take it easy and rest as much as possible the less you do now the better you heal. I too had hysterectomy and this is by far a harder op to recover from. It's a much longer healing process.

Keep us up to date with how you get on take care xx

The blood will be from your sutures or the suture line that won't have anywhere healed yet. You still need to rest and only be concerned if it is very heavy or smells offensive.

Matron I had my post op at 9 wks and was told in healing well but the vault area is still a bit raw. I am now 11wks. Do you think it will have healed enough to go swimming as I was concerned about infection if still raw.

I can remember Gillian feeling that something was "hanging out" before 13 weeks when I eventually returned to work and the numbness you describe could last for some time particularly if you have been sitting. I still very occasionally get that feeling and it's been 6 years especially when I've been sat (on a plane for instance) for a few hours or more. It's really good news your surgeon is pleased with your progress so try not to worry......he's the expert and knows your body well and how the operation was performed xx

I would think at 11 weeks you should be ok swimming. I've heard consultants advising ladies to swim at about 8 weeks following their post op check. Water in a swimming pool is reasonably clean so go for it. You'll feel better for it, phyl does xx

Thanks. I feel like everything I do at mo makes me suffer pain and in sure that lots of it will be co in using the muscles again (a bit like using the gym and feeling stuff and sore next day) but always worried it's a warning but if I don't try things how will I know I'm ok to do them. I did half an hr of ironing the other day and later on was sore. Should atill be refrained by from ironing? I was told no hoovering for 6mths also. X
