Blepharitis- I want to tear my eyes out!!

Posted , 9 users are following.

I have been following these forums for a while and felt compelled to post. I am a 42 year old male that has been battling Blepharitis for over 7 years.  It started with severe insomnia and stress in my life.  I thought once I fixed my life and my insomnia my eyes would get better.  Well guess what? I was wrong. I have tried everything from Wetones, baby shampoo, antibiotics, steam, oils, every eye drop you can imagine even dandruff shampoo.  Nothing works, nothing.  I just want to rip my eyes out.  This pain is so bad that I would cut off a toe or finger if it would make the pain go away.  These doctors just look at it and say oh it looks really inflamed try some natural drops or baby shampoo.  That’s like telling a cancer patient to take some aspirin and see how it goes.  If they only knew the pain I was in each day they would find a cure for this.  I refuse to accept that I am going to live the rest of my life like this.  Every hour I am awake I am in constant pain. I have now keep ice cubes with me and rub them on my eye lids whenever I can. That is the only thing that sooths them.  Please God find a cure for this I can’t go on much longer with this constant pain.  Thank you for listening.

This may help. After much research, as my husband has had it, I found something that you drink, not put on the eyes, grapefruit juice, though I believe any acidic drink may help, not concentrate, but the good stuff. He has a glassful each morning and he now rarely gets attacks. This may not work for you as I think it depends on what type of bleph. you have, but surely worth a try. If you decide to go for grapefruit juice though, just check out that it is safe for you on a personal health level (if you have any other conditions double check) as it is powerful stuff, otherwise orange or apple juice. It seems like such a simple remedy but it may help you.

Intresting!  I have never heard of Grapefruit juice but I would drink anything if it helps.  I would eat dirt if someone said it would help that is how bad it is!

Wow, your husband is a lucky guy to have you Asa research assistant! I will add grapefruit juice to my shopping list and give it a try. Can't hurt! Thanks for sharing. It really seems that getting a Blepharitis flare under control and then keeping it under control is a process of trial and error.

What works for someone else may or may not work for you, but patiently trying a treatment route to see if it works for you is the process we all must go through.

So, high ho, high ho, to the market I go...to buy grapefruit juice.

(ps: Luckily I am not on cholesterol meds because people who are are told to not eat grapefruits 🙁)

Well good luck. If it is going to work it will probably take a few weeks.

I forgot to say that sometimes if my husband eats too many biscuits and overdoses on sugar it can flare up a little, so I think that too much sugar may also not be a good thing, though I don't really have enough proof on that one. I don't want to take all your fun away !

Let me know how you get on..............

jj11, i feel so bqd for you! For the eye pain try this: Take a white cotten sock,( make sure it's all cotton), and fill it half full of white rice. You can get cheap rice at the dollar store. Tie a knot at the end of the sock and heat in the microwave for one minute. Put a paper towel under the bag to keep it clean, and lay it on our eyes. If it's too hot, heat less, not warm enough, heat more. This should make your eyes feel better. smile Dena

Thank you Dena.  All of these tips are helpful and they provide temporary relief but what do I do all day long at work.  I really like to know what people do all day long at work with this pain??

PS I will try the sock idea at home.  Ice seems to work better but I will try the dry heat. Thanks.

JJ11, How are you doing with your eyes?

Awe!!  Thank you so much for asking.  I have gone off the antibiotic gel a few days ago and the flare has finally gone away.  The last two days have been good with little discomfort.  I have been sleeping better as well and I think that helps.  There is always a persistent pain and it feels like it can flare at any time but for now they are better with nothing on them.  If they could stay like this I could live with it. Fingers crossed!

I washed my eyes with baking soda and water. Going to try the Wet Ones Red Box 4 times a day. I agree ice feels better. Trying to use cotton pad and throw out to avoid re contamination.

    did you try the heat?

No, I still have not tried that yet.  Just ice.  I will get it and report back.

I'm wondering if it will help. It helped my eye I damaged.

OK, I will let you know.  The problem is I am at work 10 hours a day and that is when it hurts the most.  I can't put heat packs on my face at work. I do go in the bathroom and put warm to hot water on my face once an hour.  That seems to help.
