Blepharitis- I want to tear my eyes out!!

Posted , 9 users are following.

I have been following these forums for a while and felt compelled to post. I am a 42 year old male that has been battling Blepharitis for over 7 years.  It started with severe insomnia and stress in my life.  I thought once I fixed my life and my insomnia my eyes would get better.  Well guess what? I was wrong. I have tried everything from Wetones, baby shampoo, antibiotics, steam, oils, every eye drop you can imagine even dandruff shampoo.  Nothing works, nothing.  I just want to rip my eyes out.  This pain is so bad that I would cut off a toe or finger if it would make the pain go away.  These doctors just look at it and say oh it looks really inflamed try some natural drops or baby shampoo.  That’s like telling a cancer patient to take some aspirin and see how it goes.  If they only knew the pain I was in each day they would find a cure for this.  I refuse to accept that I am going to live the rest of my life like this.  Every hour I am awake I am in constant pain. I have now keep ice cubes with me and rub them on my eye lids whenever I can. That is the only thing that sooths them.  Please God find a cure for this I can’t go on much longer with this constant pain.  Thank you for listening.

You summed up exactly how I feel. There has to be a treatment or cure. I wonder why I never see others walking around with eyes like mine. It is miserable and looks even worse.

I think people walk around suffering in silence with this condition.  I also believe there is varying degrees of this condition, some suffer much more than others.

An update on my condition.  I started using Tea Tree oil and baby shampoo (suggested on these boards) and it has helped.  Not great but it is better.  The following is my daily ritual:

Tea Tree oil and baby shampoo in the morning.

Hot water over my face and eyes from the sink hourly at work.

At lunch I eat in my car and put cold packs on my eyes and wipe them with Wet Ones.

Lots of Flax seed oil and fish oil capsules daily.

More hot water on my face and eyes at work the rest of the day.

Cold pack on my eyes driving home.

Tea Tree oil and baby soap when I get home.

More cold packs through the night if needed.

Hot steamy shower before bed and more Tea Tree oil and baby shampoo.

All that and I still suffer all day long.  Some days better than others but it still sucks.  This is not a way to live.

Suffer in silence, I look like a zombie people have to notice. Forget it if your not married, no one would approach me looking like this. The time spent dealing with it consumes my time. Dark glasses only work at times. I go to movies by myself and my job is with public. I am a flight attendant so long days, lack of sleep, irregular schedule. I am at wits end.

Oh sweetheart I know your pain!  I know it too well and it brings me to tears to hear another suffer tell their story.  I suffer from insomnia and a stressfull job\life make this condition worse.  If you don't get good sleep it flares up and won't go away.  I wear the dark glasses all the time too.  People notice but just don't say anything.  Hang in there and keep trying all the suggestions on this site.  You might find one that works for you.  It will not be a cure but maybe you can get it under control a bit.

If it's caused by bacteria or mites in oil glands why can't drs clean out the oil glands? Seems ridiculous to live like this.

The good news is they know what causes this but they don't know exactly how to cure it.  That is why people are using wet ones as it has antibacterial properties that kill the bacteria and mites.  I have read there are a few places in the US that are using lasers to treat this.  It is not covered, it is not cheap and it works for a few months or years depending on your condition.  It is still not a cure but I think they will have something at some point.  It all comes down to money and if it is profitable to cure this or not.  I don't think enough people suffer as greatly as we do to spend millions on a cure.  Just keep moving forward each day and manage this until something comes along to cure it.  That is all we can do.  You are not alone.

I am in a super bad flare up. I look like I had a fight with a raccoon and the raccoon won! I am praying the wet ones work.
