Blocked nose

Hi girls - I hope you are all doing well today.  I am simply fed up with getting a blocked nose all the time - it started about two months ago and I've been using nasal sprays which do work but for only a certain amount of time and then I have to repeat.  I'm peri meno now for about two years.  Does anyone know if this is related to peri/meno or does anyone else experience this?  It's really boring - yr opinions are much appreciated.  Have a totally blocked nose right now - it did go away for about three weeks last month but now back again.

its caused by inflammation in the sinuses due to fluctuations in temperatures, if you on the menopause, you need to use a steriod based nasal spray, feels like you have a cold, and if you go by a radiator, or, become hot, it blocks more, just liek a cold, but its not a cold, is that right?? the steriod base sprays, take longer to work, but they calm the inflammation, and ease the stuffy nose, when you experience heat fluctuations, take it if your sinus play up your having a menopausal flare, drink water as well to help control the inflammation, and hot fushes etc. hop;e this helps, i get it, its a pain in the butt.

does this stuffy nose and sinus issue go away when menopause is done? For the last two years I have had this and I’m so frustrated by it. I’m praying it ends when menopause is done? Please somebody tell me there’s an end to this as I have gone to so many doctors I’m glad I stumbled across this discussion board Because doctors cannot give me an answer on why I have this. Thank you and I hope some of you ladies have had relief.

      Hi Mona23

I have the greatest sympathy for you! Just before I came back from living overseas in 2015 my fantastic GP there was 99% certain I had nasal polyps. Sadly I never made the ENT appt before returning to the UK, where I was just told to take an antihistamine for a month and see if that helps. Well, it didn't and since entering Peri, it's got worse. My nose is so blocked at night, I'm constantly breathing through my mouth which I think is causing other problems. The only thing that helps is propping my head up when it gets really bad. Some Nadal sprays help but some make nausea and dizzy. Also constant nasal drip. I'm pretty close to drilling a couple of holes up my nose. 🙄 I hope you find something that helps you!! Have you seen anyone in the ENT dept?

Hi I am new here but i too suffer from a blocked nose and a cough (not great during covid) no matter if its day or night. i find using a sleeping wedge under your pillow to elevate your head clears your nose. Going through menopause now for just over a year and it hasnt improved yet. Also saw an ENT and said i have a deviated septum but i have had that all my life so there is no need to have surgery. I do have saline spray which helps abit and i find excerising really clears my nose. Look forward to more discussion on this topic.

Through Winter i seemed to have more trouble breathing through my nose especially when i slept..

for me i think maybe ageing may be playing a part in that,(i have a thin nose ) or a slightly deviated septum..i might see a specialist sometime .Its Summer now and doesn't seem so bad .I remember being in tears last year just fed up with not being able to breath as well .
