Is there a Blood Test to see if your Gallbladder is not functioning properly ?

    For gallbladder function there is no bloodtest. Only Hida Test. But when your gallbladder is infected and you get jaundice, then blood test will show rise in bilurubin. But majority here  has normal blood test , but gallbladder issues.

    LFT (liver function test )results should indicate if your gallbladder is not functioning properly

      please not meaning to be rude or arrogant in any way shape or form , but with respect , you do not know what you are talking about and are giving misleading information here and that’s not helpful!!

      no a lft blood test will not tell weather your gallbladder is functioning properly or not !!

      the only test that I am aware of that can do that is a hida scan .

      please be careful where you acquire your information from folks especially when it involves your health !!!!

    A simple X-ray showed there was stones lodged in my bile duct. Once the surgery was done I was so glad to live in peace. No more heart attack like pain. Ribs shoulder blade can't move let alone breathe. 

    Why can't the gastro docs do x-rays?

      Hi Hope 4cure ,  No stones were on Ultrasound.... sludge around gallbladder.... that's why GI Dr. said they need to do Hida Scan... hopefully I will go for a second opinion this week. Happy to hear your doing well !

    Yes the sludge was in mine too! Also after 8 years of gallstone attacks in and out of ER . ER thought that I was having heart attack.😳 Test showed no. Then they never did anything else to find cause of pain just wrote RX for pain and sent me home. This went on for 8 years in and out and around we go! After so many tests no one ever did a Xray. It wasn't until I was so fed up that I went to a gastro specialist paid my self & finally found the problem. Took years after surgery not to have cronic stomach aches I knew where every restroom was in my area. 😱 Was on soft foods diet and enzymes , actually yogurt was the only help. 

    Yikes it gets to be a complicated issue to obtain proper treatment and really should not be as it can cause other problems. Kept my iPhone on recording as I do all my doc appt now after it was suggested in a book I read , "How to Survive your Doctor "! Yep it was written by a doctor and very enlightening! 

     I feel for you, the pain is not easy .  Sometimes we gotta be aggressive with our Heath professionals and be our own advocate!

    cant imagine how frustrated you must be. Sounds like scans tests are difficult to obtain that's why I suggested a XRAY,cheap and reliable!
