Blotchy red rash/irritated skin on penile head (lasted for over 3 moths now)?
Posted , 410 users are following.
Part of the skin on the head of my penis has become slightly red and is causing some pain/irritation.
It first appeared the day after I used a condom so I think I must have had a reaction to the latex or some other substance in the condom.
The tip of the penis became super sensitive and noticeably hurt whenever it touched my underwear.
The skin was and still is noticeably red close to and directly around the meatus. This redness gets worse and bigger after I've come out the shower or masturbated.
An hour or so after ejaculation, I get a slight burn/irritation at the very end of the urethra when I urinate and this can last for a few days before subsiding. This has put me off from masturbating as much now.
This has lasted for about 3 months now with no signs of improvement.
I saw a doctor and was prescribed timodine/hydrocortisone cream and this didn't have much effect and am slightly worried it may just make things worse so have stopped using it for now.
It almost seems as if the redness comes from within the skin rather than on the surface.
I don't think its balanitis as I haven't had that for over 12 years when I was a kid and that was with the usual smegma discharge etc, whereas this is just redness.
I've attached images to show how it looks straight after showering, which is when the redness is at its worst and the contrast between the normal skin colour and the redness can be clearly seen.

About my Mycoplasma Genitalium diagnostic:
First, sorry. I am brazilian. Bad english. I will try to explain how starded e what happened.
I had some risc sexual relation. Always with condom. Except on the oral sex.
I started to have a burning ps. Very very burning.
The doctor, without any test, told me that i was having a prostatite case. I took 21 days of Ciprofloxacino.
Nothing happened. Same burning ps.
Then started to having some little rash on the glans.
High sensibility. Then i started to make various exames/test, including the PCR Multiplex. I dont know if you have this exame there. Is also called "IST Panel". Negative.
As the time passes, i started to having more sympthons. Worse . I had anal pain, anal burning after defecation, muscule pain, articulation pain, pelvic pain, testicle pain, i thought i was going to be crazy. i couldnt understand what was happening to me.
After months suffering (7 months) with no sex, none possibility of took a new infection, i did another PCR Multiplex. Than: Mycoplasma Genitalium appeared on the exame.
I took azitromicina and doxiciclina, oriented by the infectologist. At the first day, i was p*****g without burn for the firts time after months!!! The color of the glans changed in a few days. The pains started to decrease.
but, few days after treatment, started again. Then i took Moxifloxacin. And gone. New PCR Multiplex negative confirmed the cure. And i am very good today.
Well, i read i lot of information about MG. New decease. Most of cases.assympthomatic. Causes uretrithis and balanitis. Can infect testicles. Causes pelvic pain by a body reaction.
sorry by my english

Mycoplasma Genitalium is having today only 40% of cure. And doxiciclina only 30%. Due to resistance.
Moxifloxacin is having 95% of accuracy.
I think i had a false negative due to recent doses of Ciprofloxacino before test. Or, maybe, a bad lab. with bad reputation.
Search on google PCR Multiplex. Here, in Brazil, is not so Common, but, lot of labs does.this test. Uses the first urine of the morning.

Another information about Mycoplasma Genitalium: it attacks mucous membranes. Mouth, pênis, anal. Thats the reason why can be infected with a simple oral sex and causes skin reactions on the glans and anal burning/pain/irritation.
let me tell you another information: Moxiflocin is an antibiotic of spread spectre. So, can causes yeast infection. I recommend took with some fluconazol to avoid that.

Hey guys,
I have been dealing with this issue on and off for a few years along with a correlation in pain with eating certain foods. My situation got worse and eventually led to a diagnosis of yeast overgrowth in my GI tract and possibly prostate as well. If you are finding theres a correlation the amount of carbobydrates and or sugar you ingest with pain following a bit after i would recommend exploring a problem with your GI. Also, naturopath doctors seem to have a really good understanding of the links between GI health and urinary health. No modern GI doc would see me since symptoms are urinary but i was able to get some serious help from my naturopathic doctor. Just wanted to share my experience in case anyone is facing similar problems.

Hey @bman43059,
i am having the same symptoms, if i eat sugar or some carbohydrates, i wanted pee straightaway and my stomach goes bloating and passing gas none stop. I was diagnosed with SIBO and have been taking good bacteria for a while, it does help. I am thinking there is still something in my system, Main symptoms are
How did the naturopathic doctor helped you. I am very interested in hearing back from you.

Hey @C56026,
Essentially after explaining it all to her she narrowed down yeast. She changed my diet to a no carb and no sugar diet. It is essentially a more refined paleo diet because you have to cut out fruit for a while. She also put me on something called "Suggested Protocol For Pathogen Associated Biofilm Dysbiosis in the Gut" by Dr. Stephen Olmstead. It can treat a wide range if pathogens including Candida. It is a 12 week protcol combining diet change, supplements, anti fungals, and I am pairing it with a prescription anti fungal called fluconazole. I am 5 1/2 weeks in and I already feel a major improvement to my health. I hope that answers your question.

New GF, unprotected sex, 5 days later irritation, ureuthritis, discharge started. Prescribed 1G Azithromycin - did nothing. I too have the same red blotchy spot and have changed all my boxers.
I have been prescribed:
-Z Pack
-Diflucan 2x
-Nystatin Topical
-Amoxicillin
I have been tested for:
-All standard STD's including HSV 1/2
-Yeast Cultures (topical)
-Bacterial Cultures (topical)
-Blood Tests
All Negative.
I did the NAAT Mycoplasma test while i was at the clinic via swab and it came back negative.
I am leaning towards one of these 4 with the potential of the top 3 being in the prostate affecting nerves.
-Strep B
-Mycoplasma Genitalium
-Candida
-HPV
Alright, so has anyone had a semen culture or their prostate fluid cultured?
Good luck...

you must do a PCR MULTIPLEX test. Mycoplasma is diagnosed by first urine. Not by swab.

Daniel,
I have been calling around, all the labs around here use NAAT urine... where do you get a PCR MULTIPLEX test? Most doctors don't even know what this is much less have the ability to differentiate a test.

i am Brazilian. Here, the name is PCR Multiplex or IST Panel. Is a test that detect bacterias by Polimerase Chain.

Full blood workup this morning and Mycoplasma Genitalium test followed by Dermatology appointment - Dermatologist diagnosing as dry skin and recommended Aquaphor. I will say, the biggest relief I have gotten is from coconut oil.
Keep it greasy with lotion or coconut oil and make sure you have soft boxers.
Has anyone fixed this? Any old posters that want to circle back?

Hi, I’m 19 years old and I’ve been experiencing a lot of pain and discomfort for nearly a year.
While erect I can pull my foreskin back to reveal the head of my penis, but I can’t pull it back flush, instead it bundles up beneath the bottom of the head and it’s very painful when I attempt to pull it back flush, this is stopping me from performing in sexual activities with my girlfriend because I'm unable to penetrate. My other symptoms are the following.
Itchy/Burning head
Discolouration around the bottom of the head
My penis bends to the left when erect
Sharp pain in both testicles
Previously I had continuous discharge along the bottom and beneath the head, more recently this has been exchanged with difficulty of pulling the foreskin back because it sticks and then requires peeling back. (My current medication however, has countered this).
Currently I have been prescribed with hydrocortisone, I have been using this ointment for just over two weeks and twice a day, while my foreskin no longer sticks to the penis allowing me to pull it back with ease, all of my other symptoms still exist.
Previously I was prescribed with Doxycycline and Videne by my local Walk in Centre. I was also prescribed with Naproxen and Trimethopri by a doctor. As far as I’m aware, these prescriptions haven’t helped my ongoing problem.
I was hoping someone has experienced similar symptoms (especially the swelling of foreskin), and can recommend me what helped them. Many thanks in advance!

Liamsil,
Your symptoms sound a bit different than everyone else's. Id recommend coconut oil to ease the pain / friction.
Do you notice a blotch red spot like Original Poster's picture? What have you been tested for?
