Blotchy red rash/irritated skin on penile head (lasted for over 3 moths now)?
Posted , 410 users are following.
Part of the skin on the head of my penis has become slightly red and is causing some pain/irritation.
It first appeared the day after I used a condom so I think I must have had a reaction to the latex or some other substance in the condom.
The tip of the penis became super sensitive and noticeably hurt whenever it touched my underwear.
The skin was and still is noticeably red close to and directly around the meatus. This redness gets worse and bigger after I've come out the shower or masturbated.
An hour or so after ejaculation, I get a slight burn/irritation at the very end of the urethra when I urinate and this can last for a few days before subsiding. This has put me off from masturbating as much now.
This has lasted for about 3 months now with no signs of improvement.
I saw a doctor and was prescribed timodine/hydrocortisone cream and this didn't have much effect and am slightly worried it may just make things worse so have stopped using it for now.
It almost seems as if the redness comes from within the skin rather than on the surface.
I don't think its balanitis as I haven't had that for over 12 years when I was a kid and that was with the usual smegma discharge etc, whereas this is just redness.
I've attached images to show how it looks straight after showering, which is when the redness is at its worst and the contrast between the normal skin colour and the redness can be clearly seen.

Hello, Like jesse before I also think its related to HPV.
I've been to several doctors, some SEE it some dont even look. Dermatologists (stds) (done urine, blood and exudate) and no one knows, all say its nothing. They have no idea, it is something. This penis in the OP photo is wrinkled and lightly red, mine was like that now it has CLEAR little clusters of tiny bumps (and they come and go), like pimples that never "blow". 1.5 years ago i had unproptected sex, i came to know she had HPV, apparently not dangerous type but enough that she had a biopsy. Never knew the results. She also had fungus and ive been wanting to do Fluconazol, but iam scared it lowers the body defenses to whatever this is, and I do think my body is fighting. Now its MUCH more itchy than the last year. Back then, after having sex I saw some clear darker stains that canesten cleared up, but the dryness and redness never went away.
I did canesten so I kind of dont believe in fungus anymore, but some times i just want to try metronidazol or anti-fungals because she had some really strong candida too.. but shouldnt it have appeared in the urine/exudate???
ps. I used to feel dif from itch, it was more like a cold and / or burning at the tip.
I've looked at everything really, scabbies, herpes, Interface Dermatitis (Id) Reaction, lichen?, Trichomoniasis, some of them the tests denied like hepatitis or hiv etc. The urine showed no sign of fungus or bacteria...
If someone look and think you know what this is please tell me, it's made my life hell...

I am 2.5 years into this and my insurance was billed over 100K last year as I have been persistent and turned every stone. I couple months ago I decided I might have to solve this on my own. I have been tested for HPV twice now using a self collect service that you can google. I am positive for both types 68 & 82.
Based on that data and 2.5 years of failed medicine I did a TON of HPV research ( I have a medical background and work in data science) and viewed many photos of HPV of the cervix and what not. What many here show in the photos, the same I see on my junk looks the very same as HPV on the cervix in women. Also, so many of the stories here, like mine, is that this started after sex with a lady they later found out had an HPV history. So if that is the case - as there is no cure what is next?
Research clinic trials for HPV - most is detailed for the ladies of course for HPV on the cervix.
Google the great results of this study: A pilot study to investigate the treatment of cervical human papillomavirus infection with zinc-citrate compound
And also google this study: Vorinostat, a pan-HDAC inhibitor, abrogates productive HPV-18 DNA amplification
Also google DMSO and it related to Vorinostat to make it soluble and penetrate to use locally.
1 month ago I obtained Vorinostat, zinc nano-particle solution and DMSO as a penetrating agent and started my own treatment.
I have been doing a twice a day application zinc/dmso AM and Vorinostat/DMSO PM. To be clear I make a topical solution nothing by mouth
Results? At this point I feel very positive. My skin had obvious areas of thicking and such (an early indicator of hpv and cancer of the skin/glans). The areas that were thickened are pealing like crazy and now after a month are far less thickened and raised than before. These results are consistent with the studies above causing cell death of the cells with HPV and preventing new cells being created to have HPV. Consider your skin is replaced every 28 days and have had this condition or 2.5 years so I expected 2-3 months to really know anything,
I am a bit shy to supply this info, I AM NOT A DOCTOR OR RECOMMENDING THIS FOR ANYONE. I am just sharing my story. I will post again after another 30 days to let you know the progress. After the end of that 30 days I will be running the HPV tests again (was pos for 68 & 82) and see what the new results are and will update you all.
There is also research looking great for a vaccine to TREAT not just prevent HPV. It looks like we might be just a year or two from an actual cure. Google: therapeutic hpv vaccine. The trials are only for the ladies at this point or I would be in line.
Very best

hey brother! First of all, I really appreciate your post. We are in the same boat. I hate doctors and think they have wasted my time the past two years. I am wanting to self treat. Currently experimenting with ozone treatments and it seems I am at a stand still.
Was very excited to see your post. Wondering where you got your vorinostat and zinc solutions. And when mixing with DMSO what is your ratio? I understand its topical. Just want to start doing it with an idea of how much to do.
Again, really appreciate your post. Please let me know.

Pretty darn sure it is HPV as well. Dermatologist, GP - both have no clue. Been treated with antifungals, psoriasis medicines, rosacea medicines, light steroids, etc. Nothing has worked. It's also not gotten any better or worse over the last couple of years.
Recently, I did the Self Collect male HPV test. Found that I have a strain of HPV (not sure which one, just know that it isn't 16/18 - the two more dangerous ones.
So, knowing that there is no treatment for HPV, I am just going to leave it alone and watch out for any signs of warts, growths, or pre-cancerous lesions.
I wish you all luck in your hunt and for your sanity.

So, I see quite a few guys here saying it has to be HPV. Before saying that, why don't you see your doctor, discuss it with him/her and let them test for it?? What good is it if you say "I think" or "It has to be" HPV without knowing?

Well, if you read correctly, you will see that we have been to SEVERAL doctors. They don't know, we are here looking for some one with the same experience because DOCTORS DONT KNOW. It's far from helpful to be sending people to see damn doctors when we've seen and tested almost everything there is to test.
Doctors telling you your problem is hydration and laughing it off is the least we need. Obviously I will still try another Urologist but if he tells me to do blood samples again I might curse in his face.
Darty, was your antifungal Fluconazol? My medic gave me Mometasone to apply, it helps lightly when more red...

Were you tested for HPV?

Sadly you will be hard pressed to find a doc to test for HPV in males as the FDA does not yet consider it a standard test. There are however home tests that do work very well. Google Self Collect HPV Men. I have them for both the oral and genital versions of the test testing for both high and low risk HPV types

Did anybody maybe try aciclovir?
It's anti viral, and it might help, since i think this problem is actually HPV.

That's for HSV not for HPV.

Yes, I tried for 30 days. In retrospect, it may have been the only time that this did not get worse but it did not get better. Thus it may have been slightly therapeutic for me but certainly not curative. Of course acyclovir is for HSV (herpes) where many of us here recently are leaning HPV. But many antivirals do have effects on viruses other then which first intended.

Can I ask others, is anyone else experiencing pain or just the discolouration? I have something similar I cannot shift and no one can diagnose and is painful. Either feels sore or like someone is squeezing the head.

In my case, not really pain. A light feeling that by now iam not sure if its that I wash it so much or not! Right now, my penis has many red spots (unlike picture on top where its pink and more of a cluster) and its peeling lightly. But I did try masturbating lately so I'am thinking it made it look worse...
Medics wont test for HPV, they tell us we guys are carriers and there shouldnt be any syntoms associated anyway. My opinion is that unless its a clear cancer/wart they wont care, cause there is nothing really they can do. Also I feel that same feeling in the prostate, but they dismiss those claims really quick as prostate problems hit older guys. If I manage to go to a urologist ill try to check the prostate though. (blood samples are supposed to detect something wrong with the prostate according to them, and there was nothing...)
Finally. I still think if this could be just some crazy Candida. Medics told me that canesten will dry the penis so I stopped applying but I can try that and Fluconazol (despite urine culture showing no fungus)
My 3 bets to this redness, dryness, wrinkles we seem to have are, 1: HPV not cancerous, 2: candida, 3: Prostatitis. Trying creams and sometimes just not thinking about it...
ps. What I DONT have (thankfully) hard zones on penis or black nodules/stains.
