Blotchy red rash/irritated skin on penile head (lasted for over 3 moths now)?
Posted , 410 users are following.
Part of the skin on the head of my penis has become slightly red and is causing some pain/irritation.
It first appeared the day after I used a condom so I think I must have had a reaction to the latex or some other substance in the condom.
The tip of the penis became super sensitive and noticeably hurt whenever it touched my underwear.
The skin was and still is noticeably red close to and directly around the meatus. This redness gets worse and bigger after I've come out the shower or masturbated.
An hour or so after ejaculation, I get a slight burn/irritation at the very end of the urethra when I urinate and this can last for a few days before subsiding. This has put me off from masturbating as much now.
This has lasted for about 3 months now with no signs of improvement.
I saw a doctor and was prescribed timodine/hydrocortisone cream and this didn't have much effect and am slightly worried it may just make things worse so have stopped using it for now.
It almost seems as if the redness comes from within the skin rather than on the surface.
I don't think its balanitis as I haven't had that for over 12 years when I was a kid and that was with the usual smegma discharge etc, whereas this is just redness.
I've attached images to show how it looks straight after showering, which is when the redness is at its worst and the contrast between the normal skin colour and the redness can be clearly seen.

It’s such a relief finding this post, knowing that others are in the same boat! After having countless appointments with a Dermatolegist telling me ‘it all looks fine’ and prescribing the same antifungal/steroid creams.
I have exactly the same symptoms which get better/worse daily. I too only started having these symptoms after completing a course of doxycycline (which was for a bacterial skin infection I had ‘Staphylococcus Aureus’)
Has anybody been able to completely clear this up yet? Even if it was just over a long period of time? I have experienced these symtoms for approximately 3 months but that seems a short time compared to others on this feed.
I have also got an irritated anus which I cannot seem to clear up. Not sure if this is at all related but this all started when I had a bad dose of food poisoning, which in turn caused my skin infection, hence why I was on doxycycline. Has anybody else had any similar problems?
Keep the transparency coming lads, we’ll get there in the end! Positive mindset ??

As long as we are all here I think we should use this thread to try to help each other. It's a little difficult to distill everyones story from their post. Suggestion: maybe we can use a standard template to make it easier for everyone to read and compare notes. I'll start. Feel free to copy/paste and or add:
- How long have you had symptoms: a little more than a year
- What are your most prominent symptoms: Mildly swollen urethra, mild redness on meatus and corona, meatus and glans mildly sensitive to rubbing on underwear, redness around corona more prominent after ejaculation whether masturbation or intercourse.
- Diagnosis and or treatments: Balanitis (prescribed topical meds did not help).
- Tests undergone and results: All STI tests negative multiple times (10 panel) including herpes 1&2, HIV, trich, hepatitis etc.
- Doctors seen: GP, dermatologist, and urologist (all seen multiple times except saw dermatologist once)
- Triggering event: Unprotected vaginal sex

I got the same thing. Startet with unprotected sex about 10 years ago, the chronic anus irritation came around 3 years later.
Have had various treatments and tests. I have come to a point where i just accept it, doctors can't do more for me. I treat the anus problem twice a week - otherwise i'll itch while at sleep.

I've been dealing with what seems like the same issue for a couple months. I'm wondering if it is just skin irritation. I have sensitive skin and the tip of the penis is especially sensitive.
I have found some relief. When irritated or chapped, I have found chapstick maybe helps and to avoid irritating it, I use petroleum jelly to keep it moisturized. Using pj before going out for the day or before the gym seemingly helps keep it somewhat at bay.
Using these two hasn't made it go away but I feel has caused redness to go down and make it much less noticeable. My money is one some sort of psoriasis or eczema but I am unsure and still get concerned by thoughts of yeast infection or herpes. I did date a girl that had herpes last year, she was medicated with no recent outbreaks and we only had protected sex all but once. I really don't think it is herpes though because it didn't appear until several months after that relationship ended and I never had any of the symptoms. No pains, no sores.
I hope to continue to hear updates on everyone's progress.

This reply is in no way intended to alarm or worry you rather a statement of fact. It's always better to get tested and be sure. The fact is, up to 80% of people have no idea they have an STI. They don't have symptoms at all or the symptoms are not consistent. If you had contact with someone who was infected even if that person was asymptomatic and or you were protected I'd think it would be prudent to get tested. It's cheap peace of mind if nothing else.

But it not desapear completly. Sometimes i can get iritation on the body which can desapear: it may be a a reaction on the medicin.. . I feel exactly the same as you. So i would apreciate to be able to exchange information.

Basically I have a constant red rash around the meatus at the end of my bellend, sometimes other red patches or small spots on gland. They seem to disappear and reappear all the time no pain or anything. Sometimes I think I see a clear pre cum type fluid appear but not sure and also seem to have developed an itchy arse if related.
I only was with water now twice a day during showers and also have been tested for all stds apart from herpes and have got the all clear. I don’t think it is herpes because I’ve not had a sore as such or a spot that opens or ooozes.
Seems like there’s a lot of people with the same symptoms and just get dismissed from doctors!! What’s going on here people because it’s stressing my out. Genuinely bringing me down can’t understand do we all have a new strain if something unknown to science because it seems like it!

If more than one doctor has taken a look and they think you're fine, then you probably are.
You need to be on a PC or laptop with a large window to add pictures though. If you are, then you should see some extra icons towards the top right of where you type, and the right hand icon (which I think is supposed to look like the sun over hills) will add images.
The pic I've attached here shows the icons:

OR 3.) new std or more active form of an old one.
Long story short, I’m never going to ever go to one of those places again no matter how horny or curious I may be.
Finally, I have found remedy in my favorite tried and true, castor oil. Get some organic cold pressed castor oil and put a dime size on your palm, lightly dilute with warm water to an almost watery hair gel consistency and palm it onto your penis head gently. Wear it all day u til that s**t is gone. It will burn slightly at some random times during the day but I attribute this to killing the bad. This happened very recently and I’m with the guys here predicting some sort of new std. I’m guessing it’s fungal or some wild strong resilient form of HSV 1 or 2. Whatever it is, the castor oil has reduced what Jason’s original pic looks like down to a very very mild redness near the edge of oenis head that is very hard are to find. And this was in less than 5 days. I really feel like the castor oil will kick its ass. Look it up. Castor oil is anti viral/fungal and has helped with my folliculitus that I am prone to in my thighs. Hope this helps! Good luck and be safe. Resist that crazy horny urge fellas. It often ends with trouble.

I've had similar symptoms for about 3 months now. I've seen my normal general practitioner, urologist & dermatologist. I'm going to the dermatologist again shortly.
I see your reply and I'm starting castor oil treatment today with fingers crossed. I'm curious, now that it's been 3 weeks how have your symptoms been?
