Blotchy red rash/irritated skin on penile head (lasted for over 3 moths now)?

Part of the skin on the head of my penis has become slightly red and is causing some pain/irritation.

It first appeared the day after I used a condom so I think I must have had a reaction to the latex or some other substance in the condom.

The tip of the penis became super sensitive and noticeably hurt whenever it touched my underwear.

The skin was and still is noticeably red close to and directly around the meatus. This redness gets worse and bigger after I've come out the shower or masturbated.

An hour or so after ejaculation, I get a slight burn/irritation at the very end of the urethra when I urinate and this can last for a few days before subsiding. This has put me off from masturbating as much now.

This has lasted for about 3 months now with no signs of improvement.

I saw a doctor and was prescribed timodine/hydrocortisone cream and this didn't have much effect and am slightly worried it may just make things worse so have stopped using it for now.

It almost seems as if the redness comes from within the skin rather than on the surface.

I don't think its balanitis as I haven't had that for over 12 years when I was a kid and that was with the usual smegma discharge etc, whereas this is just redness.

I've attached images to show how it looks straight after showering, which is when the redness is at its worst and the contrast between the normal skin colour and the redness can be clearly seen.

I have similar symptoms, these three years the sensitive glans is the most obvious symptom. Sitting long will make it worse and glans more redness. Standing can relieve the symptom. last year red bumps started to appear on my head, especially on the temple, on and off, like folliculitis .Just like you, I think this is real and not in my head. I also hope there is solution in this thread. I hope others have similar symptoms can update their situation, especially some biopsy been done. I will appreciate it.

Hi have you done herpes test? I just did igg at 12 weeks and was negative. I've also done Igm at 18 days post exposure which was negative, igg at 6.5 weeks which was negative too.

I don't feel the same penis, looks different with rash and redness. Worse after shower, foreskin is tighter when erect. A lot more bumps on glans. Redness and some small bumps under glans.

Also had burning on lips once which lasted 10 days, cuts on side of one lip and the emergence of Fordyce spots on corners of mouth which haven't gone.

I also have an itchy scalp and more folliculitis style spots on inner thighs then I can remember (both sides).

I'm really struggling after trying anti fungal and steroid creams. I can only think it can be herpes. Debating whether to try and get the Western blot test for closure. Seen dermatologists who state lichen planus but his came after risky encounter in Nov.

Seems liek a lot of similarities to others in this thread?

For me - the following things are true.

When my penis is flaccid, it's barely noticeable. It's worst when my penis is erect, or if I wear tight pants/boxers which squeeze on the head.

If I push in on the head with my thumb, you can see something happen - like discolouration?

The tip of my penis is the most red which is why I think it might be an internal infection. Here is what I have tried so far.

I tried an anti-fungal and an anti-bacterial. I did a full comprehensive STD test, nothing turned up. But I did however have a gardnerella infection, which my doc gave me a combination of clindamycin topical and flagyl to treat it. It's a common bacteria in women that can sometimes overload the urethea in men. Typically harmless. But that didn't help.

I'm going to do some further testing with a comprehensive urine/semen test to see if anything shows up. If it does I'll post here.

Can anyone else confirm they are the same as me? It's worst when erect or wearing tight pants. The head sort of feels "raw". For me it doesn't hurt, but definitely feels like it's raw. It's difficult to explain.

For me the redness is mostly on the tip and down the middle of my head, not the sides.

    It's quite unsettling for me.

Also - does anyone else have erection issues and loss of libido? I dunno if it's related.

My own thoughts are that maybe it's a rarely checked bacteria causing an internal infection and when we urinate or ejaculate, we're spreading it onto the tip of our penis? Maybe prostatitis or urethritis? I'm not sure.

i think the same that it is some kind of infection. same irritated tip and yes gets worse while erect. Do update plz whenever u get any information related to it. I think my sex drive is a bit reduced i think. i am refraining from any sexual activity or masturbation as it makes it worse. can u confirm was your caused after an sexual encounter. mine was caused by an unprotected b*****b i guess. 2-3 weeks later it showed up.

I have had the same thing for 9 months. nothing works. I have burns, redness more or less strong. all the tests come back negative, I hydrate every day. I hope someone will find a solution.

I had something similar a few summers ago.

turns out the underwear I was wearing (the stretchy , moisture wicking kind), were holding moisture and rubbing against my penis head.

I switched to cotton underwear , and it almost improved overnight.

if you haven't tried that, I'd give it a go

I made an account just to reply to this... I have had the exact same issue for over 2 years now and I've been unable to solve it. My penis head looks identical to yours as well with the redness. Doctors just dismiss me like it's nothing but its irritating and not nothing. I've been tested for STIs many times but always come back negative. At best a doctor tells me to use antifungal creams which don't seem to do anything. This all started when I had unprotected sex with a woman over 2 year ago. I've convinced doctors to at least try some antibiotics and I've tried two different cycles of antibiotics (Azithromycin and Doxycycline) without much luck, though the antibiotics did seem to kind of help.

I wish someone would find a solution this this.

I've had a suspicion that it might be Mycoplasma Genitalium (the antibiotic resistant kind) but I can barely find a doctor or clinic where I live that has even heard of this and knows how to test for it. I don't want to use antibiotics anymore unless I know for certain. The only other thing I can think of is Oral Herpes (Herpes-1). I know I caught Oral Herpes from the same girl I seemed to get this issue from and I remember my mouth feeling irritated in a similar way my penis head has been. Doctors dismiss this idea though. This, I wonder if the Herpes infection messes up my body's natural remedies against foreign organisms and perhaps this is bacterial/fungal/parasitic but something Herpes has interfered enough with myself to cause this secondary infection to persist.

I'm no doctor though. I just wish someone could find a solution.

I have literally had this problem for almost 10 years now. pain intensity comes and goes but it has progressively gotten worse over the years. Its starting to leave white scarring on the meatus surrounding my urethral opening. I have tried every doctor and had every test i can think of. Everything comes back negative. I am trying an auto immune doctor now and will let you know what i find.

wow 10 years. looks like we all are suffering from something that can't be figured out. plz do update us if you find anything.

I will let you know as I'm going to be doing a comprehensive test for all known pathogens in a few weeks. If M.G shows up, I'll let you know.

If the skin is pale/white scarring and prone to inflammation and sores, then this is possibly lichen sclerosis

i stated above also from the pictures posted that that what it looked like . This is an autoimmune condition (like eczema). It is most common in uncircumcised men. it is thought to occur from many years of skin exposure to urine being trapped between penis and foreskin . The skin can get sores or ulcers from opportunistic infection by normal skin microbes of the tiny skin cracks that the condition might cause

treatment is potent steroid creams for 1 month. You should also move to non-soap washing of penis and use of barrier creams. Also get in habit of completely emptying the penis of urine so no drops sit in the foreskin

Please look it up online. It also occurs in females.
