BPH and Ejaculation Frequency

So yesterday I did more research on BPH as this is now really beginning to effect my sleep quality with frequent interruptions due to night time visits to the bathroom and I saw an interesting finding that men who frequently ejaculated actually had a statistically significant lower chance of developing prostate cancer. So then I began thinking about the rise of my prostate problems.

Up until November of 2012, I used to ejaculate at least 3 times a week. But since November of 2012 I have given up PMO (porn, masturbation, orgasm) and now ejaculate maybe 3 times a month when I have sex with the wife. In January 2014 I developed an acute Prostatitis and have never fully gone back to normal from that. Since Spring of 2016 my BPH has been worsening and I started noticing that I would now have to wake up at least twice a night to urinate. The LPN put me on Urotraxal which made me dizzy so I stopped. I then was put on low doses of Cialis which has helped some but I'm still waking up too frequently at night. At the beginning of this month I had another bout of Prostatitis although this episode was much milder than the one in 2014.

This week because of the way things have gone on the romance side I had sex with orgasm on Friday night and I let myself O again with sex on Monday morning. I wasn't noticing the horrible brain fog and listlessness which I experienced in the past with frequent ejaculation so last night we had sex again and I ejaculated again.

Lo and behold, for the first time in maybe 9 months, I only woke up once to urinate and slept like a baby!! And when I woke up my urge to urinate was barely there!!

I realize this was only a single episode and maybe its a fluke, but it is possible that my intentional retention of semen by resisting the urges and not allowing myself to ejaculate could be contributing to my BPH.

I am going to continue to experiment and monitor this.

BTW- again today post orgasm I feel quite good!

Ok, so I've been discussing this very topic with my wife for some time now, and finally did some online research to see if anyone else was noticing anything similar. Low and behold, I discovered this discussion, but sadly, there are not many other discussions on this topic online. So I too have noticed what appears to be a direct correlation between orgasm and BPH relief, albeit temporary, but relief none the less. So, while my wife and I engage in very regular sex, I'd like to start my own personal study by beginning with a week of abstinence, with close scrutiny of my BPH behavior (monitoring urination frequency each day, urgency on a scale of 1 to 10, measured quantity of each urination, and level of difficulty of urination again on a scale of 1 to 10). I believe this will give me a good personal evaluation of the symptoms I'm experiencing due to BPH. Then I plan to begin a regimented twice a day (once in the morning upon waking and once in the evening before going to sleep) orgasm routine (one which fortunately my wife is very excited to help with), and I will continue to take the same measurements each day to see if there is a change in my BPH symptoms. I've already noticed that urination is much easier and more fully evacuating and with a much stronger stream in the minutes after ejaculation than when ejaculation is not part of the equation, but I want to really see what the difference is on paper, if in fact there is a measurable difference. I have never used any BPH medication, and have never used any type of ED medication (fortunately erection and reaching orgasm have never been an issue for me - another thing my wife has been very happy about), and I am on no other type of prescription medication, and only very occasionally take aspirin or ibuprofin for minor aches and pains or headaches, so medication doesn't really come into play for me. But I will avoid even those for the sake of this study. Fyi, I am a fairly healthy, normal weight man in my fifties with no previous serious health issues, and my BPH problem began about fifteen years ago and has slowly but steadily been getting worse since then. I've never done anything about it, just suffered with the symptoms, so this is an exciting study I am about to undertake. My goal is to hopefully find a consistent, non-pharmaceutical (and quite frankly enjoyable) means of relieving the symptoms of BPH. And while this is a personal study, if it yields positive results, hopefully it can help others as well. I'll keep you posted.

Dear Sex.  You are a lucky man I was lucky to get it 3 X a week.   When the mood hit.  But  That my story.  I would like to see what the study will bring.  I don't know if you every read that after a man has the orgasm and he ejaculate he goes to the bathroom within 30 minutes.  That is the body's way of cleaning the pipes.  Good luck with your study  STUD  Have fun  Ken 62

You don't need a study for this. Too little or too much sex is bad for BPH symptoms, it has been long established. Hank

Ok, Hank, maybe study wasn't the right word. It's certainly not anything scientific, just a personal experiment that I'm willing to share with others. And I'd appreciate some documentation to back up your statement that it has been long established that too little or too much sex is bad for BPH symptoms. Could you supply a link or links to professional articles on the subject? I'd like to read about it. Thanks.

I don't have anything professional, just comments from many forum members, and my own experience. At the other extreme, few members even claim that zero sex is best for the prostate. Hank

Most of the time they do say sex is good for the prostate.  It clean it out.  I love a good cleaning  Have a good night  Ken
