BPH and Ejaculation Frequency

So yesterday I did more research on BPH as this is now really beginning to effect my sleep quality with frequent interruptions due to night time visits to the bathroom and I saw an interesting finding that men who frequently ejaculated actually had a statistically significant lower chance of developing prostate cancer. So then I began thinking about the rise of my prostate problems.

Up until November of 2012, I used to ejaculate at least 3 times a week. But since November of 2012 I have given up PMO (porn, masturbation, orgasm) and now ejaculate maybe 3 times a month when I have sex with the wife. In January 2014 I developed an acute Prostatitis and have never fully gone back to normal from that. Since Spring of 2016 my BPH has been worsening and I started noticing that I would now have to wake up at least twice a night to urinate. The LPN put me on Urotraxal which made me dizzy so I stopped. I then was put on low doses of Cialis which has helped some but I'm still waking up too frequently at night. At the beginning of this month I had another bout of Prostatitis although this episode was much milder than the one in 2014.

This week because of the way things have gone on the romance side I had sex with orgasm on Friday night and I let myself O again with sex on Monday morning. I wasn't noticing the horrible brain fog and listlessness which I experienced in the past with frequent ejaculation so last night we had sex again and I ejaculated again.

Lo and behold, for the first time in maybe 9 months, I only woke up once to urinate and slept like a baby!! And when I woke up my urge to urinate was barely there!!

I realize this was only a single episode and maybe its a fluke, but it is possible that my intentional retention of semen by resisting the urges and not allowing myself to ejaculate could be contributing to my BPH.

I am going to continue to experiment and monitor this.

BTW- again today post orgasm I feel quite good!

I find ejaculations can sometimes make prostatitis better and sometimes make it worse. Depends on the frequency, current condition of prostate, and the individual.

    Hi Charlton,

When you don't ejaculate often your prostate swells because it is full of seminal fluid. When it swells, particularly with a little BPH thrown in, it can cause you to urinate more often because you are retaining urine because of the swelling. If I were you, I would ejaculate more often.

OK-  Once again I only woke up once last night.  So that makes two nights out of three that this has happened!!  I continued with my pattern and had sex and orgasmed this morning to stay on the 2.5 day ejaculation cycle.  I will see if this improvement in sleep quality continues.

Here's a tip.  When you have an orgasm, either alone or with someone else, make certain all of the ejaculate is out of the penis, especially if you're taking a drug that might cause / have RE as a side effect.  And here's how you do that.  Once you've had an orgasm, place your index, middle, and ring fingers just in front of the anus.  Using a gentle squeegee-like motion, you're going to move the residual ejaculate from the prostatic urethra to the penile urethra.  If you've done it correctly, you've gently moved your three fingers along the perineal area (the area between the anterior protion of the anus, and posterior part of the scrotum), causing any residual sperm to enter the base of the penis.  Keep tracing along the penile urethra until all residual ejaculate is out.  Use this procedure - always - after urinating.  Hope this helps.

Curious alan why do you suggest this? I always figured peeing after sex cleaned out the pipes. I always tell the wife nothing like peeing after sex. Flow is always good.

So just an update to say that sadly my experiment of frequent ejaculation to reduce the symptoms of BPH did not yield consistent results.

My doctor told me to ejaculate 4x a week, but the problem has been when I do, I feel terrible the next day, like I have the flu! I'm not sure that sitting is my issue...but it might not be helping.
