Brain fog?

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hello again everyone, I managed to make it back from my vacation in one piece, but now Mono is starting to rear its ugly head again. I'm on month 5 now, and I was just wondering what brain fog felt/feels like to you? I got 7 hours of sleep last night which is pretty normal for me lately, but I didn't feel very rested which is what I initially blamed it on alongside my anxiety. But I forgot what I was gonna say earlier when someone started talking before me and when I woke up I thought it was thought it was Friday instead of Thursday and now I'm worried it may be something worse than Mono or anxiety which is why I wanna know if any of you have experienced something similar with Mono.

I have the same problem with the brain fog . Some days are better than others . Thats how it has gone for me , I will be in the middle of something and completely forget what i was doing and it takes me a few to gather my thoughts back up . I Believe it has to be the virus because i was not in any way this brain dead before this horrible virus and its not as bad as it used to be for me . I'm 10 3/4 months into this nightmare and the brain fog is better than it was . Hope this helps , your not alone .

Got to be the worse part of this virus, what it has done to my head. Along with the brain fog, which to me is forgetfulness, blank moments, feels like you are 2 seconds behind everything...such as listening to people and making your own decisions....then to top it off ice had this constant dull ache In my head, which sometimes materialises into a full headache. I'm waiting for the day it feels like I have a clear head...the ache and pains in the rest of my body I can deal with.

      Hi David,

You're almost at 11 months, I can't imagine how horrible that must be! This is exactly what it's like for me, I keep fearing dementia and other things when it happens and it really assures me to see that I'm not alone when it comes to having this with mono. I hope you recover soon!

    Hi Alle,

So sorry to hear you are experiencing this kind of brain fog, it must be the most horrible thing and have read so many people talk about it as a symptom on the forums here. It's hard for me exactly to remember everything from when I had the virus as it was many years ago, but I know for sure that feeling of just being kind of stunted in the head and just not feeling at all right was quite frightening and it is only too understandable that this kind of thing causes anxiety and distress.

Things do get better with time Alle, for me it took about 10 months to see a major turning point, although believe me the first 6 months were BY FAR the worst and hoping and praying you the most intense phase for you is going to be over very soon. Remember don't panic if it takes a little while for full recovery, because it most definitely will come and you will get through this and feel better.

For the brain fog, certainly taking vitamins / herbs which focus on supporting the nervous system can be really helpful, things like B100 complex, Co-enzyme Q10, Gingko Biloba, Evening Primrose Oil, Ginger Root, there are many others too I'm sure. Sometimes these kind of things can just help you feel a bit sharper and more energetic to help your body cope through the traumatic experience it's dealing with right now - and remember this won't be forever, things will get better - hang in there!

Meant to say Alle regarding the vitamins and herbs, of course I'm no doctor or medical expert, always worth checking these things for any interactions with other medications / conditions and checking in with an expert too!

      Hi Craig,

Thank you so much for your assurances and herb recs. This brain fog is so draining, I just never expected this to last so long since the doctor seemed to play it off as nothing when I was diagnosed. Thank you so much for your support though!

      Hi Alle,

Oh the brain fog is horrible, but it will pass over and you will feel better and be able to think clearly again - in no way does anything like this mean dementia or anything more sinister than mono. Absolutely Alle brain fog is a common symptom of mono, I've read so many people on here talk about it and it's such a frightening thing - and it does get better as the mono gets better with time, I know that isn't always a great help or comfort when it's going on so long but please be assured that this very much can be a normal symptom of mono and that this and ALL the symptoms get better with time.

It's also so common for doctors to pass this off almost just as if it's like a nasty flu - they often say that it will get better in 6-8 weeks, I think that's what their textbook says often - and for some that may be the case but for many many people and in my experience most people, it takes longer but it doesn't mean to say that recovery doesn't or won't come - because it WILL Alle and truly I believe you will get through this and get back to full health again, given my own recovery experience after such a hard time with this too (recovery thanks to God only) and reading the recovery stories of many others who were unwell for many months and had brain fog and other symptoms but went on to make a full recovery too and got back to full health.

Hang in there and just take one day at a time, be kind to yourself, get plenty of rest and don't expect too much of yourself right now - remove stress as much as possible (so hard I know as this virus itself is so hard to deal with).

Thinking about you and I truly believe that 2019 is going to be a year of recovery and breakthrough and healing for you Alle, trusting God with that.

This has happened a lot since my mono diagnosis. It can be really scary. The anxiety that goes with this illness is insane. Hang in there.

The anxiety and depression with this can be so awful - hang in there guys it does and will pass with time as you start to see improvements (which you will). It takes time to get confidence back after this thing, but it does come believe me - hang in there and thinking about you Alle and Lori and everyone.

I have had enough of the anxiety and depression Craig. It is horrible. The physical symptoms I can handle, it is the mental side that is doing my head in.

Some days I don't even recognise myself anymore.

I was never a worrier - was always happy go lucky, so to be struck down by this over the past almost 17 mos is a complete nightmare.

It's understandable Kay and Lori, this thing and tough circumstances really take a hit on your confidence and worry levels and everything. I have been having a hard few days too just trying to somehow keep holding onto the fact that things can get better and won't always be this way, and that there is hope and a future for all of us here on the site and to do our best to hang in there and trust that God will help us.
