Brain fog, dizziness, vision problems, head pressure, headache PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone!

I don't know where else to go, and was hoping someone could please help me. I'll start off by saying I'm a 23 year old Caucasian female. Going on 5 months now, I have had absolutely debilitating symptoms which have hindered my daily life. I feel these symptoms every moment of every day.

It started with dizziness and a persistent brain fog. I just thought I had a bug, and tried to go on about my life. However, my symptoms have never gone away. This "brain fog" I am talking about is a feeling of complete mental confusion, I have no memory, I cannot concentrate on anything, it feels like there's a dark blanket on my brain clouding all my thoughts. I have extreme disorientation and haziness. I feel like I'm always in a dream like state.

I am constantly dizzy and feel a pulling sensation, as if I'm ready to fall over at any moment. It feels like there's air inside my head, and I'm always very lightheaded. Whenever I try to drive I feel this pulling sensation pulling me down.

Another problem I have is with my vision. I am having very blurred vision and have double vision. Everytime I look at something up close it is extremely blurry and I cannot see at all. My perception on things has completely changed. I feel like everything looks very odd and strange and I don't have the right depth perception. It's like I'm in a horrible dream like state all the time.

I have been having headaches and head pressure as well, and having horrible pains behind my eyes. The pin starts from the back of my head close to my neck and continues up my head and the sides of my temples. My eyes hurt so bad, and it feels like knives are jabbing my eyes. My head also feels extremely heavy all the time.

All these symptoms have been causing me severe anxiety, and I have been having panic attacks from them and feel like I'm dying. It is causing a strange disrespity sensation, where I feel like I'm not even here anymore and there's a detachment from myself and my body. I have had to drop all my classes at college and quit my job because these symptoms make me lay in bed all day long. I have been unable to drive for months and can barely get up to walk around. If anyone could please help me or know anything as a suggestion to try.

I have been to my general doctor, 2 ENTs, 1 neurologist, have had 2 MRIs, a hearing test, VNG, multiple blood tests, and no one knows what is wrong. I can't live like this anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated.

-Elise

Not sure if anyone has been to see an ENT that works in balance issues. We have one here in Richmond Virginia and my son has seen them as the ENT and nuerologist along with family Dr. He works with patients on Mal De Debarquement. This is a condition that he says is fairly new and alot of Drs have not heard of it. My son sees the Dr there , Dr. Wayne Shaia, hoping that he can offer some relief. He has some good days and still several bad days. He is also starting to journal when he has the episodes along with watching what he eats.I hope this may help others.

Wow interesting! What type of treatment does your son receive? Is he in any meds??
    • Posted

He was on a very low dose of klonopin and about 2 weeks ago they upped his dose, I believe of .50 mg, sorry I can't remember the exact dosage. I did forget to mention in my previous post, this all started after a horribly rough roller coaster ride in November 2016.

I hope this information may be of some help to others. I have prayed for relief for him on a daily and pray this latest dosage will offer him some relief.

Hi leatha, would you mind explaining more about what happened to your son after the rollercoaster ride? What were the symptoms? And did they happen right after the rollercoaster ride? Or did symptoms appear a few days after? Was he ever diagnosed with Bppv? Or do the doctors know for sure that he has mal de debarquement?

We took a roller coaster ride last November in Florida. The worst one we all rode was the first, of which I did not ride anymore. He rodae that one particular rollercoaster one more time along with 2 other roller coasters. The next day he started feeling bad and then when we arrived at home the next day, he was in the ER with vertigo.n they treated that with steroids and meclizine. In the months after he had head pressure, perception issues, blurry vision and a feeling if just not there. He saw numerous Drs and ER visit and numerous test we're performed by drs, neurologist, ENT, family Dr and eye Dr. All test were normal. After all of this he was sent to Dr. Shaia of which he performed balance test, normal, and then prescribed. That is how that was determined.

Hi Elise . I guess we are in the same boat ! Initially I thought the symptoms came from a toxic burden , but today I know it isn't . I have a few things left on my check list , so I wanted to discuss these with you . I just had a CT scan of my teeth and waiting for results from the dentist . To see if there is anything , but the answer is probably No . Have you had a binocular vision test ? There is a special clinic for this condition in NY. I am living in Europe so I will travel to London to get this checked . Finally if the mystery is still not solved I will check for vasculitis , or veine damage from a specialised doctor . And if all of this does not help , I will try again with object focusing excercises . I know of a person who had described the same symptoms , that had found complete relief with this method , but that , I believe had tried very very hard . Hope to hear from you soon !

I believe its parasites. Please google it. Those are symptoms of parasites in your body. Everyone has parasites but some more than others.

Google this ~ What are the symptoms of parasitic infestation. I hope this helps and i am about 95% sure this is what it is. Thats why doctors can’t find anything. Eat alot of garlic. This will kill off parasites in your body and they’ll flush out when you poop.

    I hope this helps.

You actually can be checked for parasites overload, which I have been checked. I'm negative. I think it's metabolic and vitamin related for myself. Thiamine deficiency and phosphate levels can also cause these symptoms. A hair analysis and complete vitamin mineral panel has shown nutrition defeciencies with my condition

I would still advise you to google it. It doesnt hurt to do the research. You have all the symptoms. Sorry, but personally i don’t believe in doctors. They just want your money. Everyone has parasites in there body.  Hooe you have Facebook, if so go to Jilliam Mai Thi Epperly and friend her and you will see what she talks about and its all about Candida in your body as well as parasites. Doctor mis diagnos all the time. Don’t put all your trust in doctors. They human too and can make mistakes too.

Cleyla, I did google it . It was the first thing I suspected. I've had colonoscopy , upper lower GI, tissue biopsy, blood analysis under microscope for mold and parasites. Everyone has parasites but I'm referring to parasite toxicity . I am negative , mine is due to malabsorption and vitamin defeciencies. Not everyone is the same of course but in my case , it's not the cause

Hi  Jeremy, I too suffer from many of Elise’s symptoms and halfbthe people on this chat room.. I’ve had all kinds of blood test, MRI’s, CT’s of the Brain.. seen all kinds of doctors and specialist and still they don’t know why I feel the way I do., the only thing that semi helps is Acupuncture and massages bc my neck hurts.. I’ve never been in an accident or anything but I was starting to think my “drunk feeling”/ derealization  was form that..

But what you’re talking about makes sense..

about malabsorption of vitamins and minerals..

In 2012 I had a liver surgery and there was a complication where the doctor had  take a part of my large intestine and replace it with a part of the main hose that connects the liver to the intestines (forgot the proper vocabulary).. after the surgery, the doctor said I would be “normal” with the exception I wouldn’t really be able to absorb 100% of vitamins that I consume from food.. I had that surgery in 2012.. I isn’t begun with these symptoms until 2015 after I had my son.. weird.. idk if there’s a link..

My last attempt in trying to figure this out is seeing a Holistic doctor but their pricey..

      Hi Vanessa,

In any of the blood tests that you have had did they look at your Serum Iron or Ferratin levels?  We're you on prenatal vitamins during the pregnancy?  Do you know your iron levels from then?

    • Posted

      Thanks reply Terry,

Since I had my son my iron saturation does get low and since I’ve had him I’ve had about 4 diff iron transfusions from 2015 until this te 2017. The hematologist has checked my bone marrow and done countless blood test and can’t really figure out why my iron gets low at times.. he thinks it’s my monthly period.. but who knows.. I might try and seek a 2nd opinion. He sees me every two months and testes my blood for everything u just asked.. also my primary doctor has done extensive blood work.. and nothing I’m healthy, thank God.. but still get this drunk feeling.. or dizzy sometimes I feel tired.. sometimes light bothers me, or going to malls, markets, or crowded places make me dizzy and hurt my eyes.. I’ve seen 2 ENT and they can’t figure it out.:

Yes I took prenatal.. during my pregnancy..

    • Posted

Yeah but what the hell is that all about?? It’s sooo frustrating.. and leaves me exhausted..
    • Posted

Well, if malabsorption or vitamin issues is the cause, it will affect the nerves in the eyes too ...neurotransmitters. Thiamine, magnesium and phosphate levels as well as folate levels can all cause vision problems. It can cause a whole range of chemical imbalances...I'm trying trial and error with mine.

Hi Vanessa, that’s interesting because i just started to nourish myself with lots of vitamines i got those women’s blend from whole foods, and extra vitamine D, and extra Omega3 omega6 omega9 and iron, and i can tell i am feeling little bit better.....  I had my son in 2015 too, he is 2 now. And i got all these weird feeling ( drunk, dizzy, derealization, swaying, rocky floor, insomnia) when he was only2 months old . I am curious do you think you could be depressed, could be depression a main cause of all of this? Do you feel down ,tired all the time, heavy head? Do you get headaches ?  My neck hurts too.... could it all be due some major depression??

Hi, I had kind of the same symptoms. What helps me is Vitamin B 12, Magnesium and lots of water with added minerals drops.

I also recently started researching about the vagus nerve. Seems to apply, too since my neck hurts a lot as well. Since I do some exercises for that, I feel better with the dizziness..

Thank you Cth i will read about vagus nerve!!!!

See that’s one of the reasons I want to see a Holistic doctor.. that’s what they focuse on.. they check vitamin levels and things western doctors don’t check for.. Somewhere in this chat someone did mention they saw a Holistic doctor and they were able to feel better.. we’ll see. Thanks so much!

Oh, forgot to ask, what do I take..? I just began taking a woman’s multivitamin, intake magnificent 250 gm 1 pill per day, and blackseed oil.. helps a bit with the dizziness and gives me a bit of energy... but that’s it.

      Hello Lanvyn,

That’s definitely interesting.. so u began feeling this way after unhad your son?  What are your symptoms..?

I can’t put my finger in it., like I was telling Jeremy, I’m just going to go see a Holistic doctor and have him test my vitamin levels and all that’s stuff most regular doctors won’t test for.. Some days are better than others.. today was challenging.. I went to the mall and it was sensory overload on my eyes.. it makes me a bit dizzy and my eyes feel tired.

I don’t think it’s deoression.. I’m usually happy and excited when I make plan with my friends on the weekends.. I’m still kinda considered a “new Mom”.. so of course I’m tired and days when I’m cranky.. moms never get a break.. But what pulls me from that thought that it could be bc we had babies can’t be what’s making us feel this way bc there’s makes feeling the same way we do.

Hi Vanessa, yes i got my life “up side down” since my son was 2 months old. Before that i was absoluty healthy, active , 29 year old. But over 1 night things changed. My sympotoms are hard to descrice as they take turns, but they always here 24/7 . I would say all started with feeling like a needling sensation or as if water was running over my back, and back of my head.!like a gusbumbs sensation i had at first.  That feeling stayed with me for 2 days, and i could not sleep coz of that, doctor said it wAs anxiety, but i was not anxious ! Then i woke up feeing Drunk! I felt like a had a bottle of wine myself. My eyes could not focus, they did hurt. ( and still do) pressure on my head, pulling sensation on my head, sometimes i feel like smb got me from hair and slightly pushing me towards right or left. Some days i feel like i am going to fall over, tho i never actually fall. I feel like brain is rotating inside my head, when i get those 2-3 secs dizzy spells. Malls, shopping, driving, get my vestibular so overload that each time after shopping i feel exhausted and have to lay down for an hour to get my head together. First year when all of this happened   , i had bad nausea, and panic attacks coz of that.. sometimes i feel like i have a ghost vision, i can not look in the mirror because i feel so detached, i feel worse at night, this is the time when my derealization and depersonalization is in full force. My neck constantly hurts, my shouders feel sore. Some days my legs feel so weak, and even get this intermittent tremors. I feel shaky, like my legs and arms wont listen to me. But thats in my worst days. Over all i stay active i drink my vitamines, i walk outside alot, i push myself to eat! As i would eat before all that happened. And trying so hard to fight this nightmare ... An eye dr said my eyes are perfect, Ent said my ears all good. Mri’s clear. 100 of Blood  work is all good. So idk anymore what am i fighting... but this thing makes my life so much more of a challenge.

Lanvyn, you described my symptoms very well. I know ...it's pretty much hell. It affects your life in so many ways

Doctors are convinced that i am depressed and all my symptoms are due depression. But to be honest , i have no problem to get out of my bed, i run all day take care of my son, i take him parks, and i do take cAre myself , like showers, haircut, i do laugh, i get excited for little things here and there. Its just that i can not enjoy it fully coz of my  debilitating symptoms. And i know for a fact that my first worst symptom was the dizziness, and tired unfocused eyes, like you know if u had an eye exam and they need to dilate ur pupils ! So ur vision gets unfocused. That what happens to me , this how i would describe it on my worst day. And if i need to talk to smb looking straight in the eyes, its a challenge coz i get very tired, and dizzy.. so dizzinees , drunk feeling, and heavy eyes are my worst symptoms floowed by panic attack, insomnia, derealization...

I know Jeremy , i know that Elise was going to a Mayo clinic. Coz all of her symptoms to a 100% matching mine. And i was hoping she will find an answer! So i am here everyday.) reading what other people have to offer in order to feel better! Coz in my case Chiropractor did not help much. I am reading ab the Holistic dr... that is probably my next step to take...

I understand, doctors always want to say depression or anxiety when tests are negative. The honest truth is there are more things than go be wrong with normal tests than things with abnormal tests. Doctors just give up and move on to a simpler patient with the flu or broken bone that will show in an xray

My symptoms also blew up overnight , although there were some things building up to it. The night it all came together i had been drinking heavily, blacked out woke up in the cold and couldn't get back home because there was no transportation available. When i finally got back home I felt a tight band around my head, numbness in my face and my fingers were tingling. Sadly, i had to work the whole day like that and ever since then my body has never been the same.

I would like to hear what happened to you right before these symptoms occurred as well as others. I heard this theory about epstein barr virus that the virus basically goes into attack mode when the host is severely immunocompromised and although I haven't confirmed this to be true I am leaning more toward this condition - Chronic active epstein bar virus (CAEBV)

I’m glad (in a weird way)I’m not the only one with these crazy symptoms..

My left side of  the back of my neck is always hurting too.. kinda like I just need to massage  it out or crack it. I also feel like a tingling sensation on my left part of my neck that runs in a line from the back of my head to my left shoulder blade..  I want to say my symptoms began happening when I was 8months pregnant. I remember parts of my head felt tight.. or heavy. Then the drunk feeling/ de realization would happen but I just thought it was do to my pregnancy.. All symptoms subsided after I had my son but came back when he was about two months..

And just like u say.. symptoms is a bit tricky to describe bc they take turns..  on a bad day.. it’s like sensory overload for my eyes.,, if I’m in a market or any public place my eyes hurt, feel heavy like I just have to rub them, eyes feel tired, I feel dizzy.., if people are wearing bright colors or patterns it makes me feel very dizzy (yet test ENT doctor did shows I do not have vertigo) maybe bc of how my eyes feel.. I feel very tired like I just need to take a nap.. sometimes I might feel a bit nauseous bc of how “drunk” I feel.. Sitting and resting my eyes help a bit.. sometimes driving at a high speed (like past 40ish) will make my vino feel fusy.. also at night the lights bother my eyes when I’m driving.., test I’ve seen two eye specialist and I haven’t perfect 20/20 vision and healthy eyes.

Like I told u before.. my next step is to see the holistic doctor..

I will most definitely keep all of u updated and I’m always in this chat reading your post and comments.

Let’s not lose hope nor faith.. God is always good.

Hopefully Elise keeps us updated on her symptoms.

Hello Lnodes. The thing is i never drink, glass of wine for a new years is my maxsmile not smoking anything either . But exactly the day before it happened i went to a hike! I did hike like 4 miles over the  hill! I went pretty high on top of this hill and it was a cold evening very windy. I remember i was freezing as i kept going and my ears hurted so much i could feel the pain of my ears deep inside my head...... once i got back to my car and warmed up, i felt okay. I never got sick no flu.  This same evening i felt a spinning sensation , as if u come out the carousel “ merry go round” like you know the things are not spinning, but u feel that pressure over ur head and body, like ur waiting for ur vestibular system to catch up, and stop this . This weirdest feeling like ur body moving when its not. I had that happened same day after the hike. And then all got worse, drunk, derealization, tingling , panic, dizzy roller coster every day ! Sometimes i feel the floor kinda jumps under my legs too. For a second if i look from down to the side... its all somehow connected to my eyes, if i roll my eyes or strain them i get dizzy. I also sometimes feel like i am falling through my bed as trying to sleep. And my ears ring too. So idk if that was a virus. But 2 years in it. Is what getting me down thinking it ll never go away. I believe our body knows how to heal itself. But in that case smth is wrong, i wish i could help myself to recover but idk how. No magic pill!

I'm really beginning to think there might be a common theme here in terms of what led to this condition . We pushed our bodies to its physical limits and then this condition manifested itself .   I'd love to hear some other people's stories right before they started to experience these symptoms !! Maybe it will give us some clue as to why this all started .

Well, mine came out of nowhere ...not from excessive use or anything. It just blindsided me virtually all at once

Hi, I can remember that the day I had my first attack (I almost fainted because I was so dizzy and my whole body was shaking, shivers etc.) the only meals I had was chocolate with white bread that day, coffee, maybe a little bit pasta for lunch, cup of chai tea latte and a little bit kefir with raspberries for dinner..  and stress all day long and no sleep the night before (and the same pattern every day for about 8 years before that) ... Since that day (3 years ago) I am trying to find a way out to my normal life ...

I totally blame it on my sugary eating habits (that I changed 100% now), lack of sleep (not easy to change), the lack of hydration with just water (trying hard to drink more water)  and the stress (not easy to change with 3 kids and running my own business)....
