Brain fog, dizziness, vision problems, head pressure, headache PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone!

I don't know where else to go, and was hoping someone could please help me. I'll start off by saying I'm a 23 year old Caucasian female. Going on 5 months now, I have had absolutely debilitating symptoms which have hindered my daily life. I feel these symptoms every moment of every day.

It started with dizziness and a persistent brain fog. I just thought I had a bug, and tried to go on about my life. However, my symptoms have never gone away. This "brain fog" I am talking about is a feeling of complete mental confusion, I have no memory, I cannot concentrate on anything, it feels like there's a dark blanket on my brain clouding all my thoughts. I have extreme disorientation and haziness. I feel like I'm always in a dream like state.

I am constantly dizzy and feel a pulling sensation, as if I'm ready to fall over at any moment. It feels like there's air inside my head, and I'm always very lightheaded. Whenever I try to drive I feel this pulling sensation pulling me down.

Another problem I have is with my vision. I am having very blurred vision and have double vision. Everytime I look at something up close it is extremely blurry and I cannot see at all. My perception on things has completely changed. I feel like everything looks very odd and strange and I don't have the right depth perception. It's like I'm in a horrible dream like state all the time.

I have been having headaches and head pressure as well, and having horrible pains behind my eyes. The pin starts from the back of my head close to my neck and continues up my head and the sides of my temples. My eyes hurt so bad, and it feels like knives are jabbing my eyes. My head also feels extremely heavy all the time.

All these symptoms have been causing me severe anxiety, and I have been having panic attacks from them and feel like I'm dying. It is causing a strange disrespity sensation, where I feel like I'm not even here anymore and there's a detachment from myself and my body. I have had to drop all my classes at college and quit my job because these symptoms make me lay in bed all day long. I have been unable to drive for months and can barely get up to walk around. If anyone could please help me or know anything as a suggestion to try.

I have been to my general doctor, 2 ENTs, 1 neurologist, have had 2 MRIs, a hearing test, VNG, multiple blood tests, and no one knows what is wrong. I can't live like this anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Elise, it seems we all go through these: MRI of head/neck, CT, ENT visit, neurologist, otoneurologists, neuro-ophthalmologist/ binoculor vision, vitamins tests (active vitamins), chiropractors including nucca, acupuncturists, nutritionists, tests for parasites, environmental factors (poisoning), gut problems (gluten), allergies, viruses in ears, thyroid issues. Can anyone think of anything else?

I posted this about a month ago here it is again in case you have not seen it

Hi All, I just noticed this blog even though I am a little late I felt I wanted to add. I have experience practically all the symptoms mentioned. For 21/2 years looked for an answer with every specialist, workup from spine to brain and no answers( I am making long story short) Finally went back to my original ENT who started me on the journey 21/2 years earlier and reviewed everything again. He then recomemened I see a doctor from the House of Ears Institute of LA as he just saw a paper he wrote.

Fast forward gathered all the test results, MRI, CT scans etc and was able to get appointment with specialist in Tampa whom had been at the House of Ears. After spending 2 1/2 hours with him and his PA he said " you might think I am crazy I believe your symptoms are caused by Shingles Virus that went into my ear and has been feasting for the past 2/12 years" . He then told me how I felt since it was difficult for me to describe he said I felt like I was drunk all the time, which was an accurate description of my feelings. Lost of balance, brain fog, effective speech, disoriented, lack of concentration, visual distortion etc. At that time I could not spend more than 5 minutes on computer, TV was out, shopping at the market was brutal as crowds, noise all affected me. I could drive at the most 20 minutes, then would have to pull over for at least 20 minutes another my life was miserable and severe depression was starting to take over. Bottom line he said we would not know for months if not a year whether his diagnosis was correct he put me on large dose of antiviral after six months started to notice a difference but had to stay on for another year and a half in order to find out how much permanent damage was done. There has been permanent damage but I am 60% better can function now except Barometric pressure changes especially high pressure, bring on the symptoms due to the damage done by the Shingles Virus to my middle ear but not as severe. I hope this helps someone. Just to be fair the doctor said if you take a million people with my symptoms bring it down to 30, I would be 1 of the 30.

Have any of your doctors before checked your ear for infections? I thought mines had to do with my left ear too but two docs who have checked it says they don't see any inflammation in the ear. So the specialist who thinks it's the shingles virus isn't sure either but thinks it's that? Blood work cant be done to show that you have the virus? Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so happy for you that your starting to feel better.

I forgot to ask, did you get the shingles rash along with those symptoms or just those symptoms?

      Hi lamluckyyy,

Yes in my situation I have seen ENT which he have checked my both ears even done MRI but all normal he found I have sinusitis and prescribed me with Avamys spray for long time and discharged me but I am quite concerned regarding my ears so I asked my GP for ENT for second opinion so he sent me for Blance test which I have done yesterday the test is  about 3 hours so the Audiologist said yes is ma balance on left ear is low.

Now I am waiting for my review appointment with my ENT see what treatment and therapy I will get so I am advising every one to never give up am sure there is a door open some where.

I wish you all quick recovery.

Thank you. Please update us with any of their findings and treatment. I hate this feeling so much...I can't walk for very long without feeling off...I think it has to do with it left ear but am unsure. I am seeing another physical therapist for this, so I hope I get some answer and help. Goodluck and I wish everyone a quick recovery too. smile Glad I'm not alone.

Stephen I’m so happy they figured out what was wrong with you! How long have you been suffering for? And are you still on the antiviral medication that has helped?

Hi, I know this post is old at this point but it is the only one that describes exactly what I am going through. I have read all of the replies but was hoping to get your updated opinions and results. About five months ago I woke up feeling tired and thought I might have the stomach bug. When I went to stand up I fainted ( this happened twice in a month). I have never fainted before and both times I was brought to the hospital. The hospital ran test but told me it was probably just the flu and my high heart rate. Every day since then I have felt extremely tired, dizzy, out of it, and had headaches. I’ve been to the doctors and hospital multiple times but was told they could not find anything wrong. I have had tons of test done but everything comes back normal. I struggle to get out of bed everyday and rarely can go to work. I am typically a very active person but for the last 5 months I have spent almost everyday in bed. Really hoping someone has found answers please help.

I just read all the comments on EBV. I am a college student so it is very likely that I could have gotten this from sharing a drink. I am going to ask my doctor to test me for this but in the meantime did you read any comments that’s mentioned how to get over this besides eating healthier, I could not find anything. Thank you for pointing this out to me!

Hi Jaycee...if it Ebv that you have, you might have had it since you were a child and the virus has been lying dormant in your body waiting for a chance to attack. I have no medical experience, but after getting no answers from doctors and going around and round in circles...I had to start researching on my own, and was thankfully pointed in the direction of Antony William (Google him) who has turned out to be the only source of info and help I could find. Use it...don't use it. I feel an obligation to tell others about what I've gone through so they don't end up in the state of absolute despair that I've been though. It's been one of the worst and hardest things I've had to deal with...pretty much the last 6 months have been hell...but I finally feel like I'm having more and more days where I'm feeling good again...and you will too. I have seen stories on the internet about some people taking anti viral meds...but I can't comment on that, as its not the route I've chosen to follow. EBV causes so much toxicity in the body, I don't want to add anything further to the mix if I can heal though boosting my immune system and healing that way.

I’m so sorry Jaycee, your story is similar to mine and so many others on this site sad it’s awful sad the same thing happened to me, one morning I just didn’t feel right and it never went away. I’ve been to so many doctors and had so many tests done. What kinds of doctors have you seen so far?
