Brain fog, dizziness, vision problems, head pressure, headache PLEASE HELP

Hi everyone!

I don't know where else to go, and was hoping someone could please help me. I'll start off by saying I'm a 23 year old Caucasian female. Going on 5 months now, I have had absolutely debilitating symptoms which have hindered my daily life. I feel these symptoms every moment of every day.

It started with dizziness and a persistent brain fog. I just thought I had a bug, and tried to go on about my life. However, my symptoms have never gone away. This "brain fog" I am talking about is a feeling of complete mental confusion, I have no memory, I cannot concentrate on anything, it feels like there's a dark blanket on my brain clouding all my thoughts. I have extreme disorientation and haziness. I feel like I'm always in a dream like state.

I am constantly dizzy and feel a pulling sensation, as if I'm ready to fall over at any moment. It feels like there's air inside my head, and I'm always very lightheaded. Whenever I try to drive I feel this pulling sensation pulling me down.

Another problem I have is with my vision. I am having very blurred vision and have double vision. Everytime I look at something up close it is extremely blurry and I cannot see at all. My perception on things has completely changed. I feel like everything looks very odd and strange and I don't have the right depth perception. It's like I'm in a horrible dream like state all the time.

I have been having headaches and head pressure as well, and having horrible pains behind my eyes. The pin starts from the back of my head close to my neck and continues up my head and the sides of my temples. My eyes hurt so bad, and it feels like knives are jabbing my eyes. My head also feels extremely heavy all the time.

All these symptoms have been causing me severe anxiety, and I have been having panic attacks from them and feel like I'm dying. It is causing a strange disrespity sensation, where I feel like I'm not even here anymore and there's a detachment from myself and my body. I have had to drop all my classes at college and quit my job because these symptoms make me lay in bed all day long. I have been unable to drive for months and can barely get up to walk around. If anyone could please help me or know anything as a suggestion to try.

I have been to my general doctor, 2 ENTs, 1 neurologist, have had 2 MRIs, a hearing test, VNG, multiple blood tests, and no one knows what is wrong. I can't live like this anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated.

-Elise

Hi, if the doctors haven't done so already you could ask to have your blood checked for coeliac disease antibodies.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease where your immune system mistakenly sees gluten (in wheat, barley, rye, oats) as a potential threat and fights it, leaving your small intestine damaged.

While its common to think that coeliac disease can only cause digestive symptoms, it actually effects your whole body. Brain fog, dizziness and migraines are some of the more commonly reported symptoms. I didn't really realise I was getting brain fog until I went gluten free.

this might seem silly, but if you try dexamethazone(steroid) 16mg for a day and it goes away then its an inflamation problem....I have had two craniotomys followed by radiation necrosis...which has affected either vistibular nerve or cerebellum ....when I came out of second surgery I had double vission(4 feet apart) and now have balence problems, foggy brain and unable to focus(going on 5 months)...its not a cure , but points to problem.

It has probably been mentioned, but it sounds exactly like the symptoms of Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD). I highly recommend watching some youtube videos about it. I myself have all your same symptoms and am going in next week to see if it is BVD. Good luck to you!

most probably it's ADHD which causes brain fog and make you not able to focus, also derelizaDepersonalization-Derealization Disorder cause some symptoms of what you have

Hey Elise. Did you ever get this figured out? it sounds to me as if you have intracranial hypertension. I have been dealing with similar problems ans all my scans have come back normal - I have been doing physio and chiro for a year and nothing has helped. I have to get a lumbar puncture soon to figure out if this is the problem, as scans don't usually detect intracranial hypertension. I hope you are well!

    hey Elise93,

I'm Barry, and I just wanted you to know I'm experiencing the same symptoms you describe.

I noticed these symptoms while driving my parents to lunch in November of 2019:

    • blurry vision (especially when looking at something new. Eventually my focus would lock in. But when I point my eyes at something else, it takes a good 2 seconds to pull focus).

    • That "pulling down" feeling you described! So spot-on, my doctor and neurologist look confused when I described it, but that's exactly what it feels like - a downward pulling on my head.

    • Extreme fatigue and brain fog

    • Terrible quality of memory (worse than the occasional forgetting a birthday). Can't remember actors' names, song lyrics or movie titles that I used to have locked in. And every day, it's a 5 minute search for my wallet, keys and phone.

    • I can feel every heart beat in my head and behind my eyes.

    • When sitting for 10 minutes in my backyard, my eyes lose focus slightly with each heartbeat.

    • Occasionally, I'll have what I call a "vision event", where I see a sparkly blob (purple/green/shimmering blurry blob) and I have trouble reading or focusing in just that spot. Doesn't matter which eye I close, it's still there.

    • Cognitive limitation: I'm not claiming I was ever Einstein, but I am currently trying to understand a mortgage refinance estimate sent to me by 2 different lenders. It is one of the slowest, most gruelling processes I've ever experienced. It took me 5 seconds to think this thought: "$5,008 is more than $3,900"

Sadly I have no solutions to offer, but I was shocked to see how many of your symptoms aligned with mine.

It's a relief to know I'm not alone. Thanks for sharing your experience.

PLEASE, I tell you, PLEASE go see a psycho-therapist. You are probably EXHAUSTED. I know how you feel. I've been a walking zombie for 7,5 years now. Last year I was diagnosed with autism and ADHD (I also have PTSD) I am working on getting rest and relaxation right now. (Are you Dutch by the way?) What you are experiencing is chronic fatigue, I'm pretty sure. Of course, I am not a medic. But I've had all the bloodwork done, my sleep was tested, etc etc. Nothing. Nothing for years. There was nothing physically wrong with me. Now I know it must be exhaustion. It's a burn-out. In my case it's probably a good deal because of my autism. But it doesn't have to be.

I'd love to know what you found out.

Good luck and be kind to yourself, that is the most important thing. 🙏🍀❤️

It's possible that some people on this forum may be suffering from some type of dysautonomia, such as POTS. Maybe look into this, especially if you have palpitations/heart rate issues and anxiety.
