Breath smells like faeces (Poo)

Posted , 379 users are following.

I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

The odor could comes from a  loose crown or a cracked tooth.

When I had a crown come loose,  I commented to my dentist's assistant on how foul the odor coming from inside of my crown was.  She responded "Not to worry.  They always smell like that."

Hello. I've been having the same odor problem too. Been having issues since 10yrs old, I'm now 25. I would say that the odor got much worse for me after I started smoking pot about 2 years ago. And about 6 months ago, I had a strep throat infection wich left me with enlarged tonsils. My tonsils have holes in them too, they call them crypsts. I believe these holes are trapping food and bacteria and making matters worse. I have good dental hygiene but I can't seem to get the horrible odor from my throat to go away.

Help is much appreciated. Whatever info or website you may have, please forward it.

      Sarah,

Yours probably are your tonsils. Go see an ENT to see about getting them removed.

      Hi Sarah,

i had this now just got them out, so much better.

but up until then I bought a plastic syringe with no sharpe part and filled it with warm salt water and put it in the holes and blasted them, heaps of stones came out. Try this.

or even garage with the warm salt water solution, it will help loosen them and come out when you spit the water out.

i highly recommend getting the tonsils out

i too suffer from bb and I thought it was tonsils. Long story short last december I had them removed. And Im still suffering.how did it work out for you?

This is exactly what happened with me too. I keep telling people it's a waste of time getting tonsils out. I'm now 42 and I have been actively trying to find a cure for this since I was 20 years old. I've given up!

      Hi Christian,

The weird thing for me, is I've always had great breath. The poo breath didn't start until about 7 years ago. It was faint and now I guess it's much worse. Especially since I've had my tonsils out. Apparently we need the tonsils. I have pretty much tried everything too. I personally don't notice anything, but people around me do. They treat you as if you have leprosy or something. An herbalist I found on Instagram, of all places, said it sounds like stomach heat and to start taking Qing Se Wan. So I have been. The benefit is I feel more regular, which is good, but the comments haven't stopped. So, I am also at a loss. My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy, but I tell him about this forum and that it's something other people suffer from too. If you figure anything out, let me know.

      Best of luck,

      Wen

Every time somebody suggests something on this forum I try it! Nothing has worked so far. I think mr breath is worse since my tonsillectomy. My husband thinks I'm mad too. I barely kiss him now because I'm so paranoid.

have you ever seen a gastro doctor. ive been doing so much research on this i know that there is a cure. I went to see one last week but he refused tgo give me a breath test, or an allergy test. Because sometimes it could be lactose intolerance, gluten intolerance, sibo, fecal impaction - gastroparesis. Or simply food stuck in your esophagus and im not talking about tonsil stones. Im eager to try everything because each and everyday I feel more and more embarrassed. People just keep covering their nose and I dont know what do they smell. Maybe if they would help and tell us we could find a solution. Also do you have any idea what your breath smells like? I was playing with my godson and he asked me why my breath smells like fart. Fart aka rotten eggs idea

i read up on stomach heat and im not sure about that. I have been suffering for four years from this. I am now 23 a pretty girl and in college and cant enjoy the best times of my life. I used to never ever have bad breath in fact i used to smoke a ton of pot and wake and my mouth used to feel so clean if i didnt want to brush i didnt have to. of course i did because i cared about the healthy of my teeth. Have you been to a gastro? also some dental offices do breath exams with a halimeter which then they are able to tell you the level of vscs they find and what is the cause. im not sure where youre located but im in nj and i cant find a dentist thats offers it. but google it halimeter in your state or country maybe you will have hope. Im so happy i found you guys, because theres no one i can talk to about this. everyone tries to say im crazy.

No. You're not crazy. Mine is recent, too. I can rinse with peroxide, Listerine, brush with tumeric, which is great for periodontal, and nothing. Yes, been to a gastrointestinal doc. I'm good there. I've no idea, but I also googled the lazer resurfacing. So strange. But at this point, I am willing to try anything. What are your experience's?

find a doctor neaer you that does the halimeter, and sometimes just be one doctor clears for gastro reasons doesnt mean it still isnt a gastro problem. next time you plan onn going to the doctor ask for a complete allergy panel...

I thought it was black coffee with no sugar or cream. bitter food help digest system. It came back and I drink black coffee again. it has no effect.

I'm trying water with baking soda...it claims to neutralize the stomach acid.

I haven't seen a gastro specialist. My GP has asked me to write a history of everything I have tried and she will try and get an appointment with a consultant for me. She is very supportive even though she said she has never noticed anything from me.

My breath smells of poo. My son is 14 and often asks me if I have farted when I speak to him. Even my toddler will say he can smell poo poo. It's so depressing. Guy I work with always checks his shoes when I'm sitting beside him. It's as if he thinks he has stepped in dog poop. I've spent years watching people rub their noses, offer me mints, comment about the smell. I'm not paranoid, I know it's me. In school boyfriends would dump me and tell everybody about my breath. I've had this my whole life.

That's the same problem I have... Once I told my friend about it and she listened but then I kept eating mints and she said just brush your teeth... Which is super ignorant because my problem isn't hygiene and I feel like most people's problem isn't.. Trust me I know how you feel.

More than likely your problem is a gastro problem... It can be something in the mouth but poop smell usually has to do with the gastro problem.

Baking soda totally helps to neutralize acids. Are you gargling or drinking it?

I'm doing both. I also stay away from consuming meat dairy products. I crossing my fingers.

What's your symptoms you're experiencing, I'm just trying to find common links between us.

If only it were as simple as brushing your teeth! I'll look into the gastro side of things but not holding out much hope. Lots of people in this forum have had everything checked and they still have it. The only thing that makes me think it comes from the mouth is the fact that people don't comment until we speak. So the smell doesn't come out our noses from breathing just our mouths.

      Hi Loobs,

I had everything you could possibly think done by doctor and dental and nothing has help. I think the issue is in our "tongue" and antibiotic doesn't help.

    • Posted

Antibiotics seem to work for some people but it's a short term fix.

Interested to hear how the laser treatment works on the tongue.

I think about the same thing. Well I was working at a dentist office and I took care of everything that Was wrong in my mouth literally everything. I'm waiting till next year to get my wisdom teeth out which can also be a cause. But while I was there I saw a periodontist and a ordinary dentist both assured me that it's the gut... Especially when you have white coatings on the tongue and you brush very well but it keeps coming back. Your tongue is a reflection of your gut. A lot of times you can take tests for the gut and it'll come back negative but that may still in fact be your problem. I read something really interesting yesterday from another blog that really was like a breaking point for me. I feel like I'm getting extremely close to a cure..

Loobs. I'm pretty sure mine is worse after I had my tonsils removed too. Dang, I really have no clue what to do. I'm going back to a dentist soon who is a specialist for bad breath. She said that they try to not mask, but pinpoint where it comes from. If it's not the teeth, then they will refer to someone who would know. I have my fingers crossed. I'm not ending my life over sh*t breath. There has to be a cure.

They can cure so many illnesses but nobody can find a cure for this. If one more person talks about poor dental hygiene on this forum I think I'll scream! We all probably have the best dental hygiene in the world!

Keep us posted how you get on.

      Loobs,

I knw exactly how you feel! Today I woke up with the worst breath ever. I started moving ,y tongue around and some particles  came out. It looked like a tonsil stone and smell like one too but I knew it couldnt be bc I dont have tonsils and it was a hard ball. So I went to the mirror and started feeling around and guess what. All that was coming from my partially erupted wisdom teeth and let me tell you the smell is dangerously terrible. Just food for thought.
