Breath smells like faeces (Poo)

Posted , 379 users are following.

I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

I suffered from the same problem since childhood. I tried everything. Every toothpaste and mouthwash sold, all kinds of doctors, even had my tonsils removed. Nothing helped.

Then I visited my ENT for a sleep problem and during a routine examination she found a nodule on my thyroid. She removed it two weeks ago. It had, apparently, been growing below the surface of my neck for YEARS. It was not visible from the outside. When the doctor removed it she said it was the size of a baseball, largest nodule she had ever seen.

My breath has been normal since she removed the nodule. IT was causing the smell.

Hello IAMCURED, how did the doc find the nodule? i've had sonograms, CAT scan but want to make sure I'm not missing something else.

      Thanks..

Congratulations! How was this causing the bad breath? Last year I did a neck CT and it shows that I have a tiny thyroid node

taken anti-biotics more than once? Yes, more frequently childhood years

      Have hiatus hernia? No

Had endoscopy or colonoscopy done? Yes, but nothing abnormal

Digestion changes? Not going as often as I should

feeling of something stuck in throat? Yes, but only when laying down. I do have sleep apnea, been on cpap therapy for the last 3 years

difficutly passing gas or NOT burping? No problem in this department.

Might want to add that I am not overweight. Been active most of my adult life. Have a stress free lifestyle

THANK YOU Leofta for your response!!

someone else (forgot the username) has hiatus hernia. I suspect the hiatus hernia is not sealing things and causing an opening where gases/ vapors escape esophagus and we breath out.

Stress- has caused me to breath this odor out constantly.

Diet- helped but no matter how clean I eat the odors escape.

immune system- finding a good probiotic to help rebuild from taking anti-bi...

feeling of something stuck- I've read is caused by acid reflux. In my case I do have stomach ulcers, chronic gastritis, hiatus hernia but no matter how healthy I eat I get this feeling. It has decreased with two stomach meds my GI gave me & waiting for my follow up with him.

Also DIGESTIVE ENZYMES have helped with most of my sympthoms. Returns when I STOP: the probiotic, d. enzyz, or stomach meds.

I've concluded in my case, finding a SET SCHEDULE to eat on time, drink water (still figuring out but HIGHER PH water helps), complete bowel movement in the morning (as soon as I wake up).  When to take the probiotic (I do evenings but I drink a little keflir yogurt with my bfast and odor is not all day but odor returns on an empty stomach.

Chris how do you know when the odour is away or when it comes back? I have never been able to smell my own odour?

I don't have any of the symptoms you mention either.

      Hello loobs,

Since I had my tonsils removed I smell my odor, when I breath out. it varies if I am in a humid room or cold area. On the train, I notice when my mouth is dry. It smells like poo, wet dog, unwashed body part. The remarks of people are looking at my shoes or staring at me to see where the odor is coming out from me. It does annoy me but I don't make eye contact with anyone because I am usually reading something on my phone. I have also breathed into a dry plastic cup and was able to smell how bad the odor I breath out. One time I was talking to a friend, she did not eat all morning and when she spoke to me her breath smelled like unwashed body part. I asked her if she ate she said she was on an empty stomach. She did have h.plori years ago, and hernia (operated) but still breaths out this odor when she doesn't eat. she is usually chewing gum so I don't notice the odor but when I chew gum or mouth mint I breath out horrible odors. I know we will figure this out. We may not all have the same sypmthoms because all bodies are different but we must find common denominator for the cause of this! smile

Ok I have tried for years but can't smell anything. My mouth feels horrible though and it's almost like I can taste its smelly. Plus my toddler tells me and people check their shoes when I speak.

Something i have noticed recently by chance,  is that if you rub a little bit of toothpaste just on your front teeth ( just the front of them)  and breathe in and out with short breaths, you can get a sense of the odour in your mouth.  A little bit of trial and error is needed, but give it a try and see how you get on.

I'm probably better not smelling how bad it is, that might make me not go over the door! 😂

.... or you might be pleasantly surprised! :-)The biggest issue for me is not knowing and it makes me totally paranoid. How can I address the problem if I don't know when is occurring?

Would be interested to know if this works for anyone.

Am not sure if anyone has mentioned this. I had this problem once following taking diclofenac sodium. My wife asked me why I was smelling of faeces in my breadth. Went back to my GP who advised me to stop taking the diclofenac sodium. My breath went back to normal after that. Frick side effect I guess. I have never gone near that medication since.

Took that a few years ago after an OP but I wish that was the reason. Easily solved.

      Thanks anyway
