Posted , 379 users are following.

I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

Guys, I've found what helped the most in my case is to make sure I have a bowel movement once a day.   Either consume plenty of fibers through fruit and veggies or supplements or colon rinse, get them food waste process out of your system.  In my case colon rinse.  There's  a very short distance less than 3 feet between the intestines and mouth so any undigested food can cause an unpleasant odor.  In my case poop breath and very unsusual stinky feces.  I can't smell my own breath but I know for sure my poop are not as stinky as they were plus my wife kisses me more often so I know something changed.

I am not convinced that they are lying; what do they have to gain by doing this?I have people I really trust and they swear blind I do not have bad breath, but I have had enough comments to know that I do at certain times. I think for a number of us it is intermittent and likely not nearly as bad as we all imagine i.e. occurring all of the time.

For me, it occurs if I drink alcohol, or when I train in the gym. I can guarantee that it will occur at such times. Outside of this, it seems to happen much less frequently.

The other thing with the smell is that it is subjective.

I have this problem since I was like 10 years old, now I am 39. I never had girlfriend and became an introvert and antisocial because of this condition. I've read and watched a lot about this problem but I am confused because there are many possible cause like trimethylaminuria, candida, post nasal drip, liver disease and what not but I'm thinking this is either trimethylaminuria or candida because my breath is worst when I eat sugary foods or dairy. Even if I don't speak the smell is coming out of my nose. I had tonsillectomy because I thought it was because of tonsil stones, I always brush my teeth and I also use mouth wash but still my breath stinks. I have no idea how it smells and I am shy to ask people about it. But when I speak or exhale I hear some people look around as if they don't know it's my breath and  say they smell poo or ear wax or ear pus somewhere. When I swallow my saliva and exhale from my nose people suddenly cover their nose and complain that they smell something like poo or earwax. Please help me I feel so down and suicidal. It's so difficult to live like this I need cure so that I can live a normal life with friends and colleagues. 😭

Hi James, please don't despair there will be something for you.  I take it you are under the doctor, if not you need to.

I don't have this problem now but still look in on here and can identify.  I had it for years and years.  I remember waiting in the car for my hubs whilst he was in a shop and when he returned he asked me if I had - well you know what - I was mortified as I could taste the smell myself.  The down the nose smell really worried me and, like you, when I swallowed, it came down my nose.  I have dropped meat to once a week only and eat clean.  Rarely do I eat pre-packed food and have swapped to no fat milk or Almond Milk.  I eat plenty of fruit and veg and drink 3 pints of water a week.  I still enjoy red wine.  I do have issues with gastritis and reflux and these are much better, but come back if I eat naughty (like chilli) but hey ho there you go!!

What I can say is that the smell has gone completely which is saying that the meat was not digesting (takes 2 days in the gut) and the dairy, heavy cheese etc, was just too much for my tum.

It is telling a story that you are worse after sugary foods and dairy.  Sugar is the very devil for your body.

I also would recommend a good probiotic daily to balance gut bacteria and  kill off bad bacteria.

My daughter who was in her 20's at the time started with it also and her doc told her it was due to smoking.  I disagreed and told her to change her diet to cleaner (you are what you eat).  It cleared up.

If I get it now which is pretty rare, I can guarantee that my mouth will also taste metally which is a sure sign of upset tum.

Hope some of this helps - there is help out there so don't give up.

Thanks for your concern, I will follow all the advice I received from this forum. I think I should avoid meat, dairy and sugar although it's difficult I am willing to sacrifice these to atleast suppress if not to cure my bad breath. I will keep you posted and I hope it will work for me.

Thanks for the advice, I will follow your advice and I hope it will work for me as it worked for you. Could you please recommend what probiotics should I take? Is it ok to eat sugarfree yoghurt which is also a dairy product? Some people were saying that the probiotics in yoghurt can help increase the good bacteria in the gut but I am worried that it will have the same effect as milk or cheese.

James, You need special oral probiotics.  The probiotics in yoghurt drinks don't even work for the stomach let alone the mouth.  If you go onto Amazon, search oral probiotics.  You usually have to get them shipped in from the USA but the money you spend will be worth it, you will simply waste money on those sickly yoghurt drinks.

Hi James. We can all relate to what you are going through. What I would say is be careful and try not to spend a fortune on things that don't work. Diet definitely helps, I never eat sweet things or chocolate in the office as I think it makes things worse. Sometimes on my own in the house I'll have something but not very often. I like wine but I know that makes me stink more. When I'm socialising and drinking cocktails or wine folk always comment about the farty smell. I know it's me. Oral pro biotics didn't work for me but I only took them for a month as they are expensive. A good probiotic for your gut would maybe be better. Just buy the highest strength ones you can get. Or start making Kefir! It's so cheap to make and you can make it with non dairy milk. Google it, I've heard you can buy starter kits in one of the high street home shops. Can't mention name or I'll be blocked. Pm me if you want more info. Don't give up there are a few on the forum who have had good results. I got my tonsils removed at 32 years of age and it didn't help, actually think its worse now. Keep talking to us and we will all help.

Thanks, I googled non dairy kefir and it seems easy to make but my problem is that the water kefir has sugar which is bad for me, and the other type which uses fresh coconut milk is not available here, by the way I am an expat living in South Korea, I can only get canned or powdered coconut milk here. Thank God there is kimchi here which is also a good source of probiotics.

The yoghurt I have is Organic low sugar (no sweetners just fruit) probiotic and it sits well with me - ordinary yoghurt either full fat or no fat hurts so I know it is not suiting.  I do take a low fat probiotic yoghurt drink which has 6.5 billion good bacteria - I do this because I am on a forum for gastric issues and these come highly recommended.  But I also have bought a very good strong brand of capsules and take one of those.  It could be your gut flora is all over the place, obviously mine was and is so much better.  I am sure you will get some more hints and tips from those who have been there.  It has got to be down to inflammation imo - and if nothing seems to work, seek out alternative methods.  I had Kinesiology last year for my gastric issues (not breath) but 3 days later I was so much better.  She detected inflammation via my hand muscles.

Hi James. Sorry I didnt realise it had to be fresh coconut milk. Don't even know where I would get that and I'm in UK. I'm sure the kimchi will be just as good. I think when you make kefir the bacteria eats all the sugars? My friend who is diabetic was drinking the dairy kefir with me when I was making it. She said she was going to try and make the water one so I'm pretty sure she would have researched that. I'm no expert but a good probiotic like Gwen suggested would be a good place to start. I'll need to get back on them myself. I try things for a couple months then get upset when people still make comments. So then I go into a downer and give up for a while.

Thanks. I agree with you I notice that yoghurt is also causing my bb. Can you recommend a brand of oral probiotic? I currently live in South Korea and there are online shops here that sells stuff from the US, what strain of probiotic should I take and how much in billions? Please send me a private message. Thanks.

I found a tutorial video that says canned coconut milk can be used in non dairy keffir, and you are right sugar will be eaten by keffir grain during the fermentation so I think I can also drink that. Thank God I also found keffir grains in an online shop here in Korea I am excited to try it, I hope it will work.

do you eat gluten? what is your "menu"? it's hard without the dairy

Hi James, I can sympathize with you because I have also suffered from this for quite a while, causing him me to retreat from social situations for many years. Hang in there and always try to maintain hope that you will get better. For me, I've suffered from chronic sinusitis since I was a kid, even opting for sinus surgery with minimal improvement. Going gluten free for 5 years helped somewhat, but still would have really bad days, and the issue was always still there. I finally found great improvement, and I really hope the same can help others out there that are suffering. For me, changing my diet and cleansing my sinuses daily has greatly reduced the horrendous breath . Every morning I use a neti pot with distilled warm water and saline packets to cleanse my sinuses. Drinking a lot of water and avoiding drinks that dehydrate (coffee, alcohol) also really helps me. For diet, sugar seems to be a killer. The worse I experienced has been after consuming drinks that contain sugar (soda, fruit juices, any alcoholic drink, coffee with milk, etc). I also try to avoid foods with sugar and hidden sugars. I really hope this helps you and others and my advice is before attempting expensive treatments, surgeries, etc, keep a daily log of what you eat and drink and start modifying your diet, eliminating those foods & drinks you may feel are making things worse. Hope this helps!
