Breath smells like faeces (Poo)
Posted , 379 users are following.
I have this horrid poo smell from my mouth. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss, use Dentyl PH mouthwash, I have the best oral hygeine of anyone I know but I still have this smell. I am too embarrassed to even ask my flriends or family to tell me my breath stinks. I am becoming totally reclusive because of it. Id rather go to my GP and tell him ive got an STD. I know ive got it coz sometimes people look around and ask if ive farted, and I see people with babies smelling their nappies when I speak. It really is starting to badly affect my life but I just cant pluck up the courage ot go to my GP. How on earht can i ay \"DR, My breath smells like poo!\" Please, if anyone has any tips let me know.

I have finally decided to go to the doctors and demand to have my tonsils lasered. I know the NHS in the UK are reluctant to do anything about tonsils over the age of 18 but I am going to try. I refuse to pay a private company thousands of pounds to laser my tonsils when I've been paying tax and NI for nearly 30 years.
What has prompted this? I use an excellent mouth wash, an electric toothbrush at LEAST 3 times a day, scrape my tongue and have cut down on dairy but the other day I was prodding around in my mouth and saw that my left tonsil was bursting with tonsil stones. I could have a dentist clean my teeth for me 10 times a day but with a bag of stinky tonsil stones in my throat, how am I ever going to have fresh breath?
I've seen other posters on here say they have tried anti-biotics and it has helped? Fine but then what happens after that? I can't live on anti-biotics. Also other people have had their tonsils removed and said it has made no difference to their breath. Well I believe that if I have these puss filled sacks removed from my mouth that it will make a huge difference.
I'm getting straight onto the doctors now. I hope that I find a solution to this horrible problem we all suffer.

Thanks for your reply. I definitely see tonsil stones poking out of mine so I know that's the cause. Stomach problems aren't causing my issues. I've had tonsil stones since I was 14 and its made my life an absolute misery. I've tried everything and this is the last resort. Maybe it should have been my first port of call instead of spending over 30 years with this shadow hanging over every aspect of my life.

I hope you get the surgery that you want and that the NHS finally comes around. If you want to try and mask your bad breath you should try gargling with a mouthwash that contains Chlorine Dioxide and Zinc Compounds. They help fight off the sulfur compounds that are causing the smell.
Also, make sure it doesn't contain any alcohol.
I hope this helps!

Thanks, I do use a mouthwash with CD and that's alcohol free. It comes from the USA and is brilliant but not good enough to dissolve a whole bag full of tonsil stones. Can't name it as the moderators will delete my comment.
Doctors appointment booked for 5th February! I don't hold out any hope as no doctor or dentist has EVER taken tonsil stones seriously.

That's good to hear, hopefully after they hear how this has affected you they'll be much more willing to give you the treatment. Best of luck!!
Also, I think I know of the brand you're talking about anyway

Thank you. I do hope they help me. The brand I use isn't available in the shops.

I agree Hector. Somehow I feel things got worse after removing my tonsils. All that pain for nothing. It's as if they were blocking the smell a bit and now they are gone it's worse. Who knows, it's a living hell.

Yes got them out when I was 32 years old. I'm 44 now. They are completely gone but literally as soon as I got them out and it all healed I got even more comments about the smell. I had suffered tonsillitis a lot so my tonsils were full of pits and scars.
I'm not saying don't get them removed but please don't think it's the answer. Prepare yourself that it might not work.
Have you had this condition your whole life like me?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I first remember someone commenting when I was 13/14. I am now 43. I used to get funny stones in my mouth when I was a teenager (which I now know are tonsil stones). The doctor didn't have a clue what it was and so when I was 17 he sent me to have the lining on the inside of my nose lasered down. I used to get a lot of sinus issues but they still happen.
I appreciate your comments. I am hoping my doctor will at least refer me to ENT and see what they have to say. To be honest I am not keen on surgery anyway but there must be something that can help.

I really hope so. I'm going down the Trimethylaminuria route now. This totally makes sense to me and I'm hoping my GP will refer me to get the test for it. There are a few specialists in the UK who test for it. Has to be a reason for this.

So Loobs and other sufferers! My doctors appointment isn't until next week BUT in the meantime by co-incidence I came across a website when I researching another issue I have, (itchy scalp and insides of the ears). It was about candida. I literally had a hallelujah moment! I was suffering nearly every ailment on there. Apparently an overload of candida in your gut can cause bad breath, tonsil stones, eczema, cystitis, endometriosis, extreme tiredness. All of which I have!
So I watched a You Tube video by a doctor and am now following his advice. Apparently this is a long term fix, it can't be done quickly. After one day alone though, after drinking just one cup of a special broth I made, I won't describe what I saw in the toilet! Another thing I noticed was that my toothpaste tasted different. Really strong. I guess with having a permanent biofilm in your mouth, taste is reduced.
I had more than my fair share of antibiotics from the age of 14 upwards, was on the pill for years, eaten lots of chocolate and sweet foods. All encouraging the candida growth.
I am still going to see the doctor and will mention the candida too (although in the UK, not many doctors take this seriously). I hope this triggers some connections in other people on here. I am going to treat this with diet, lifestyle and maybe some colonic irrigation sessions. I know I can get medication for this but that will put my body into shock and I would rather do it gradually.
Here's hoping I may have found my problem and solution!
