Broken 5th metatarsil not healing after surgery

Posted , 4 users are following.

I fractured my 5th metatarsil in the end of Feb and, I was in a walking boot for 4-6 weeks no healing got worse. Then was in a nwb cast for 4-6 weeks with a bone stimulator had maybe 20 percent healing. Then we decided to the surgery with plate with screws now it has been four weeks and, the latest xrays still showed no healing?? I go back in three weeks for another xray and, I do have degenerative bone desease. My foot/ankle doctor is baffled and, he said this is not normal. I have been on calcium pills for over three months. Please anyone have an options?

Thanks,

Mike

Well here is my update on me today had the cast removed and latest xray showed about 50% healing. So I think it's good news finally starting to heal and, I go back in two weeks for another xray. An yes I did get another cast man I'm tired of these things and, I think the is cast number 7 or 8.

Well here is my update saw the doc and, it's still healing but, not all the way maybe 70%. Xray looks good along the top view still has some filling to do and, I'm starting to walk with the walking boot (short distance). Still using knee walker for the long distance and, it's still a little stiff some pain. My Doc thinks if it heals the rest of the way by my next appointment which is near the end of September I might be in the a regular shoe. Maybe finally ditch the knee walker. I really hope so!!
