Broken Ankle

I broke my ankle playing with the dog outside 7 days ago, the mental recovery is the worst...everything is such hard work, I'm in pain, in a cast, can't sleep, becoming more depressed. I think the worst thing is you have no independence..even going to the loo is hard work, I feel like my apartment is falling apart because I can't hoover etc, I can't carry things around so I can't make a cup of tea and take it to the sofa, or carty washing to the washing machine its driving me insane! I feel like im reduced to sitting on the sofa with my world on a side table.

I try to get as much done as I can without being petrified of falling over, but my good leg gets very tired so I have to stop. I'm extremely agitated all the time because I can't do the things I want to do and plans are out the window, just feel awful.

I know its not going to be like this forever but I just wanted to mention how this affects you mentally.

So sorry to hear about your ankle. I had bone removed from my foot right underneath of my ankle bone on December 28th. I can tell you the struggle is real. What saved me was a knee scooter to get around on. It has a basket on the front so I was able to carry my laundry to washer. The 1st 2 weeks were the worst. I too got very frustrated with not being able to do things like I was use to. I am in a walking boot now but go to the dr tomorrow for x-ray to see if it has healed enough to start trying to walk without the boot. The foot is very slow to heal because to blood flow is so much slower in the foot. Just know that it will get better with time. I strongly reccommend the knee scooter. I had a friend loan me hers but the sell for about $159 and I would defineitly but one if I had too. I am still using it 9 weeks after surgery when I get tired of walking in the boot. It is much faster to get around on and takes all of the weight off of the injured foot. Prayers for you and a speedy recovery. Stay positive!!!
