Karen how long if you had bronchiectasis and what other things do you do to help it. I also do a nebulizer with albuterol and salt saline. Do you know the life expectancy if you're in the mile stages

I do a nebulizer w/albuterol. Then another with acetylcystein and the best. Then I do spiriva inhaler then Symbicort. This is my am and pm routine. During the day (every 4 hrs) I do nebulizer with albuterol.
My dr has patients in their 80's with bronchiectasis. I think it depends a lot on keeping yourself healthy. Currently I have a lung infection. But generally I am pretty healthy.

Hi Jen, my name is Trudy and I was diagnosed 6 yrs ago. I just turned 48 and the last year has been real bad. I had a collapsed lung last year after a bronchoscopy. I was in the hospital for 3 1/2 months. Now I'm on oxygen 24/7 and I can't walk across the room w/o getting out of breath. I'm so scared that this is it for me. I know there is people who live with this disease, but they say my lungs are real bad. Idk how bad you are, but do what the drs tell you. You definitely need a support group of some kind. I'm looking for a way to try and strengthen my lungs so I can at least be like I was last year before the collapsed lung. I've been bad since then and its very frustrating. Follow all your drs instructions. Trudy

Hi Jen,
Hope you are doing better now. I too have been diagnosed with bronciectisis since 10 years ago. Funny they always treated me for asthma till 14 years ago when I was diagnosed with Wegeners diseas ( kidneys) I was hospitalized at least 8 times a year.
There is hope and I have learned to live a better life after I started listening to my body. I'm no longer embarrassed by my cough and when the phlegm need to come out, I get it out. For many years I would hold it in and would get infections often. My pulmonologist keeps an eye on me and helps with my needs when I'm not feeling good. Although I rather not take antibiotics and find alternatives to bring up my phlegm. I do find lots of relief when I lay on my back with my legs up on the wall. I have a box off tissue ready. The gunk that comes out. Makes me feel sooooo much better try it!!
My diet has also changed for the better, lots of fruits and veggies and soups. Protein plant based shakes for my morning meals. And lots of walking and some yoga.
Hope everyone is doing better. One day at a time!
Thanks

Hi SGAR271
I've also had bronchiectasis since I was a baby. I have been in & out of hospital all my life. I'm now 48 years old. But I don't thank god, I thank all the medical people that have helped me over the years. It's only through them I am still here & living a good & happy life plus the support of my amazing family & friends. I'm a very positive person & I think that's another huge thing that helps.
I hope you are well and I hope you have great medical people, family & friends supporting you to.
Take care of yourself

Hi Jen,
I have just come across your diagnoses of Bronchiectasis, you sound very upset, which is natural...
However i am here to tell you,i was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis at the age of two years old,i too have a left lower lobe that has collapsed,i sometimes get colds and infections that need antibiotics to clear them.but i have to tell you i have never allowed Bronchiectasis to rule my life or define who i am or what i do....
I have lived my life the same as everyone else, nothing different,i have always taken care of my lungs and know when i get a cold i go straight to the doctors to get checked in case i need antibiotics...
Do not change your job, there is no need, continue your studies,do all the things you want to....achieve all the things you want to,go to all the places you want to...
Live your life as you would if you didn't have Bronchiectasis...
One thing i would say,is don't hang around people who smoke or smoke yourself...
Really not good news....One piece of advice i can give you is to make sure you have a caring doctor, someone who understands Bronchiectasis,as they are going to be your support when you need antibiotics etc.,
I have never had a lobe removal, and i am still here, living my life to the best of my ability...I am now coming up to my 68th year....One of the best suggestions i can give you is that you have a very caring GP
If i can live this long with Bronchiectasis, when i was born in the 40's how much more better will it be for you who was born only 20 years ago...
I also have Type 2 Diabetes since i was 50 years old, which i control with diet....
I have kidney function which is a little off,but i am looking after them too, hopefully to get another 10 years out of them...A year ago i was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis which is not good news, but like everything else i will do what i need to to control it...i don't define myself as my illnesses,i am more than that....I want you to live your life wonderfully, with excitement and happiness,go for it do all the things you desire,be the special person your meant to be,you have been given this life now use it...
Sending you my heartfelt best wishes for the rest of your long life...
May you be well,May you be happy

Wow, this is so inspiring. Of course, every patient is different, but I'm sure that with all the necessary steps taken, we can all lead a relatively normal life. I take it you've never had Pseudomonas, right?

Hi alouette,
Thank you for your kind words....
I have had pneumonia about 4 times in my life,i always get my flu shot every year, and have had all my pneumonia vac shots as well.
I am very pro active as far as my lungs are concerned, actually with any of my illnesses...I think it is essential to take care of yourself, how else can we care for others if we don't care for ourselves...?
May you be well,May you be happy
Kind Regards Dechen.😊🙏🙏🙏🌅🌈🌻💐🌺🌸🌹🌼🌷🍄🌾??
