I thought the same thing about 2 years ago - and suddenly there was mrs.moonface looking back at me!! Oh well - I am pretty confident that we will "shrink" back to a more normal size! Here's hoping!!

Moon face and my neck is 2 inches bigger!   I was able to calculate the difference because I had taken a measurement for a garment fitting before starting prednisone.

It does! But for some people it takes long than for others.

Try keeping carbs to a minimum - that also helps reduce fluid retention and part of the pred weight gain is fluid.

I was told on commencing pred that cutting out gluten and simple carbs stopped the moon face, I am not sure that this is one hundred per cent correct, but I did do that and it did seem to work in my case. It does seem once the moon face has happened it is more difficult to get rid of sadly.

Yes it does - I sympathise. I have the Quasimodo look....complete with a bloody right eye and a wobbly gizzard where my neck should be. I hate looking in the mirror!

Hanhg on in there, in a previous taper down I was much improved at 30mgs (from 60).

that's intereting - I have just developed a bloody right eye - couldn't work out why but you think it's the pred?

flipdover, if you aren't someone who has experienced burst blood vessels in the eyes previously, then it is highly likely that the steroids are to blame as they can thin the blood.   I had so many during my steroid days, on one occasion occurring in both eyes at the same time, that I lost count.  They can take up to a week to disappear but, according to my ophthalmologist, are nothing to be concerned about.

Hi all. I too suffer from these bloodshot eyes. I didn't realize they were caused by the pred. I find they are worse if I am going through stress or am overdoing it. At the moment my partner is in hospital. Stressfull AND tiring! My eyes look dreadful. More red than white. It makes me very self conscious. I have got eye drops recommended by the optician and they at least help with the soreness and watering. Dealing with this definitely uses up one of my 'spoons'!

Debbie, I'm sorry to hear that your partner is in hospital and hope he recovers and is back home with you soon.  From experience, I know that is double stress what with the very worry of your loved one being ill and the dashing to and fro for hospital visits.  Although steroids can thin the blood and produce these burst blood vessels in the eye for some of us, it might also be worth getting your blood pressure checked just to rule out another possible cause.

Hi Mrs O. Thankyou for your good wishes. Yes, I have got high blood pressure which I take two lots of tablets for and I am also undergoing tests for heart arrythmia. Add that to the PMR, diabetes and Spinal Stenosis and life is pretty stressful right now. Hard to believe that five years ago, I was hiking on the moors and enjoying tennis and badminton. Still. Compared to some people on the forum I am lucky. I can still walk slowly to the shop most days and if I pace myself (thanks to Eileen's forthright and kindly advice)!, I can still keep the house clean and enjoy cooking and pottering in our patio garden. That reminds me, I must water before I leave for the hospital! Take care, Debbie
