Burning in Vagina and Anus

Posted , 34 users are following.

Five months ago I took Augmentin for a sinus infection. A few weeks later my vaginal area started to burn, then the perineum and the anus inside was burning. The gynie said I had a yeast and bv infection and gave me flagyl and diflucan. My infections went away but not the horrible burning! The inside opening of my vagina looks like a red rash. I have seen five gynecologists, biopsied for LS and LP both negative. Dermatologist had no idea what it was. I saw an allergist, GI, Rheumatologist, still no diagnosis. I've been given steroid ointment, and steroid shots with no improvement. Has anyone else experienced this after taking antibiotics? This has ruined the quality of my life as it hurts to walk and sit for any length of time. Help!

Hi Nancy. So sorry to hear about your burning I have been suffering with the same thing plus LS. I am now free from the burning by using ph-d Boric Acid vaginal suppositories. I used them every night for 10 Days and once a week to keep things in check. You use them at night and should wear a panty liner. You can buy them on amazon $25.00. They have saved my life. I also use the Borax to treat my LS Read all the reviews on amazon about the suppositories. Many gurls have been healed. The suppositories kill fungus and a horrible kind of bacteria thats inside your vagina This website has helped me so much with my LS and would like to thank everyone who has helped me. God bless Elizabeth

Thanks Elizabeth. I actually bought borax suppositories awhile ago. I've just been to chicken to try them. I am afraid they might make my burning worse. I also have issues in my back end as well. So frustrating. I have an appointment to see a mucosal vulvar specialist in three weeks. She is pretty much my last hope getting an actual diagnosis. Nancy

Nancy I was terrified too use them. What I did was open the capsule take out half the Boric AcidJust used half the capsule for the first few nights. I have to use a panty liner as it does create a small amount of liquid which will treat your entire area that is burning. I would get up on a morning and shower and take a small bowl of warm water with a teaspoonful of baking soda to neutralize my vagina in the shower. Boric Acid is used to treat eyes so it is gentle. I wish you well I am not a doctor but had suffered for 25 years with the most terrible burning and now I feel I am 90% better still have the LS but had had really improved with the Borax treatment. Hi Nancy,

Yes antibiotics will cause a yeast infection if not coupled with a really good probiotic. I suggest you start using them ASAP. Also, maybe your pH is off? Boric Acid suppositores maybe? or try drinking lemon in your water and/or apple cider vinegar.

My ph is fine and I take a 90 billion probiotic and drink kefir as well. I am thinking of trying the low oxalate diet to see if that helps with the pain. Has anyone tried it with successful results?

I am also trying the low oxalate. On day 2 of it. Did it help for you?

I have had burning in my Vulva and anus on and off for 11yrs. I have been treated for thrush, LS, cystitis (as it sometimes triggered my bladder to go into spasm). It was none of these, a Vulval specialist diagnosed me with vulvodynia. You can treat it with lidocaine on the area to numb it, have sitz baths, only wash that area with plain water or a non soap cream. Use plain unbleached toilet paper, wash underclothes in non perfumed powder, wear cotton underwear, wear skirts and sleep naked. You can also use nerve blocker pills or have a nerve blocker injection. Hope you find some answers and relief.

      Hi Jokow22,

I think I have the same thing- vulvodynia. I have been to Dr. and also treated/checked for yeast, BV and others and everything came back negative. It went away on own after minimizing all irritants like panty liners and tight pants but is now back (on and off again for last three years- maybe 4 time total and lasts about a month but longer this time). I noticed my vagina looks a bit red and the anus at times too (after wiping after bowel movement). Are these typical symptoms of vulvodynia? I also get the irritation and minor itching. It seems to get worse later in the day. Mornings are fine. I should probably go see a specialist but I have been to the Dr. so much lately (think I am in perimenopause) and she thinks I am crazy. I am seeing my naturopath today. Things seem to be a bit better last few days so we will see.

      Thanks,

      Cheryl

I have had similar symptoms too after taking 4 rounds of antibiotics!! Burning, pinching feeling when I urinate and bladder spasms on and off. It has now been 6 months and I cannot find any relief. my anxiety has been so high from this and trying to figure out what is wrong with me that I have days where I can barely function. I am curious to know what has worked for everyone, as the many doctors I have seen do not seem to take me seriously. I am so frustrated!! I just want my life back.

For me it turned out that the problem was with the pelvic floor muscles impacting the pudendal nerve. When that nerve is irritated it can cause burning, tingling, pain sitting, pain wearing pants, etc. I couldn't believe there wasn't something physically going on with my skin, but just a few short visits to the pelvic floor physical therapist brought TREMENDOUS relief. My official diagnosis was "vulvodynia" but it didn't turn into an untreatable, chronically painful thing. Instead, the physical therapy worked magic. Hope this'll be useful to some of you!

So happy to hear that you have found relief! what type of doctor did you go to? I am having a hard time knowing which type of specialist would be best to see.

I was diagnosed by a dermatologist who specialized in vulvar dermatology. Since the diagnosis, though, I've found that some gyns are wise to the role pelvic floor muscles can play in this pain while others are not. It might be a matter of going to a gyn and then asking specifically about nerve pain and pelvic floor muscles. If he/she won't look into it, choose another gyn until you find one who listens.

One more thought, you might google "pelvic floor physical therapists" in your area and give one of them a call. They might be able to recommend a gyn to you who knows their stuff.

Thanks for your post Marsha! This totally explains my situation, although I have not been officially diagnosed. Do you get this often? I get it about every 3-4 months since I went Peri and I def have prolapse as I have been diagnosed by gyn for the prolapse. I am bad at doing the exercises though. I am going to look into physio for this.

      Marsha,

If you are still on here, can you tell me what the actual therapy was? One of the drs I saw said I should try therapy but what the therapist described they did was so horrible I couldn't even think about it. What I am experiencing sounds pretty much like what you went through. Glad you are better.
