Burning needs to go!

Hello. I'm hoping I can get some answers. I'm almost 53 and in menopause. I've dealt with hot flashes etc and some vaginal dryness. However after being in the pool for a few weeks I've gotten really dry and just a constant state of burning. I did get replens but that just makes me itch. I read some people have helps with coconut oil. I'm wondering if there is a particular kind that works better. I can't go to the doc yet cuz my husband switched jobs and new insurance hasn't started yet. So I am looking for natural help until in can get there. Like many others this has stopped my sex life and sometimes I feel like it's driving me crazy. Other times i can forget about it for a bit and it's better but usually it's just a constant uncomfortable burning. I also read something about Apple cider vinegar maybe helping. I realize there are many posts similar to mine but i really needed direct contact with someone who understands.

DO not use cider vinegar! I had the constant burning, it was getting slowly better but I was impatient so tried cider vinegar in a bath, half the amount recommended and it made me much much worse. After that I was diagnosed with vulvodynia and it took me 1.5 years of no sex, no exercise, no knickers, coconut oil, pelvic floor exercises, western acupuncture, manual desensitisation and amitriptylene to get better. Now I have been better for 3.5 years and I have never gone swimming in a pool. Chlorine is a harsh chemical. Nothing but water or natural oils touch that area now (well, and my husband!). I still apply coconut oil (raw, cold pressed organic) to that area, inside and out (clean fingers) after every time I go to the loo. I insert key e suppositories when I got to bed. I also apply vitamin e from an oral capsule once a day (400 iu) inside and outside. I have also discovered something called vulva harmony which is a blend of natural oils which is soothing.

All those oils are soothing, however, if you have vulvodynia you need to do more. Vulvodynia is overactivity and hypersensitivity of the nerves cause by physical or chemical trauma infection and those nerves need to be calmed down. Diagnosis is easy - just take a cotton bud and touch it gently all over the vulva area. If it hurts that means the nerves are registering touch as pain and they are over sensitive and hyperactive.

Thank u so much for the great info. I am so glad u r doing better and to know there is hope. Did u mean that u put vitamin E in a capsule and insert every night? I am using the coconut oil now. Haven't out inside tho. I guess I was chicken to do that. I also thing for me there is a food allergy thing going on to. Plus my blood sugar is high so ubhave read that adds to it too so cut out all sugar and most carbs. Whatever it takes. Where did u find vulva harmony. I will check amazon maybe. I am believing for positive results. I've let my mind run too rampant with negative thoughts lately and stress and fear aggravate it. Again thanks for sharing ur story!!

Found vulva harmony (by bloom krans) on amazon. I break open a vit e capsule, squeeze the oil contents out onto a blob of coconut oil on the end of my finger, insert it and wipe around inside. Also rub in the outside too. I was reticent about putting these oils inside at first, but so please I did. Oil based lubricant uses natural oils after all (use that for intercourse - the oil based lube by yes). Only down side - a bit messy on the underwear and can seep through to the outer clothes, so need to wear panti pads (natural unbleached organic cotton ones).

When I was at my worst I was very down and I couldn't cope with normal daily life. It was hard but I was determined to get better. The turning point came when my consultant gynochologist told me he couldn't cure me he could just help me manage the pain. No way did I want to manage the pain for the rest of my life. I then saw a consultant dermatologist (female) who specialises in vulva pain. It was her who told me to try the western acupuncture. I am so please I did, because after each acupuncture session I got better and better. The amitriptyline and the acupuncture work together to dampen down the overactive nerves.

I am also having the same problem as Lisa. The gyn told me to use coconut oil but i got a yeast infection so i am waiting for that to get better .. It bothers me more when i sit . It's a horrific pain in the vulva area. I was wondering could toilet paper make it worst. I use Cottonelle but didnt know if it is better to use something else . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated .

Hello Suki girl..... Would love the name of the consultant lady dermo.   Could you reply privately with this?  Many thanks!  Your posts are so very helpful. The more knowledge we can all gather, the better, as the docs don't seem to know all  that much!  I live in the uk too.

It felt fine to use coconut oil when you have a yeast infection, in fact it should help because coconut oil has antifungal properties. Toilet paper could make it worse because it contains bleach from the manufacturing process. You need to find something that is bleach and chemical free. I use papura tissues, they do a toilet paper too, but I can't get it in this country any more. Some people believe that urine makes it worse and often find that washing with plain cold water after to get all traces or urine away helps. I'm not sure because tap water contains chlorine so feel that may make things worse, so I only wipe down there with coconut oil.

I saw her privately at the Churchill hospital in Oxford. Dr Susan Cooper, consultant dermatologist. Just google her name and 'consultant dermatologist' and she should come up.

I can't can't remember if I replied to you. Yes, toilet paper can make it worse because it contains bleach from the manufacturing process. Also, if it is not organic, it can contain all sorts of other chemical nasties. You need to find and organic unbleached toilet paper. I used to use papura which is made from organic sugar cane with no chemical nasties or bleach. However they stopped doing the toilet roll in the UK and only do tissues. So, when I wipe (actually dab) I use toilet paper with a papura tissue on top (the bit that touches my privates).

Do you use any special laundry detergent . I normally use Tide . Am just going nuts trying to figure if there are things that are irritating it more . So frustrated .

I use All free and clear and dryer sheets that are free and clear. Tide is very harsh for me. My gyno also said to use..

And yes this will sound weird...

But Crisco solid shortening in blue can with some pure lavender oil mixed in rather than coconut oil. And it works better than anything I've tried for temporary relief.

Thank you that does sound weird but if it works that great . Have you tried sitz baths with baking soda . I was going to try that today but didn't know how much baking soda to put . And any suggestions on toilet paper . I use cottonelle but dermatologist said to use angel soft but I didn't like the texture .
