Burning sensation in ankle at night

Hello, i am 47 years old and had right hip replacement 5 weeks ago.  My ankle is still puffy and has a burning sensation at night and will not tolerate any covers.  I am down to one crutch and walk with ease but feel i lose my balance easily when walking outside, has anyone else had these syptoms? I have these same feelings, I'm 4 weeks out and 49.  Sometimes I feel like I just have to get up.  I do lay on my stomach and grab my foot of my bent operated leg and stretch my thigh muscle.

I massage my thigh and knee and ask my husband or daughter to rub my foot and calf muscle- upward motion on the legs.

Gentilleschi said it already about going for massage and it's so true, it helps the most of anything!

I'm weak feeling too, like my knee will buckle but it is early for us so onto strengthening/ice/rest.

Hi Jilliboss, thanks for your reply.

If i do a lot during the day my ankle becomes swollen and then burns.

I will definitely try massage. I also get tired very quickly, maybe its my body telling me to slow down.

Girls, you got to get the circulation going. The leg blood vessels are called the second heart in Chinese medicine. Putting the feet higher at night is good but those leg compression sheaths I've got are dynamite. And they make you feel so good, if you're in the USA they're in amazon much cheaper than here. Mine were 400 Sterling and worth every penny.  They speed up healing I'm sure. My swelling disappeared from knee and ankle in a jiffy. I'd let anyone use it (come with an air pump all v compact and you can adjust the pressure. The air is pumped up and down the sheaths in tubes. Sounds complicated but v v simple. It is BLISS) if they live in central uk. I'm near oxford. The circulation carries oxygen, qi or chi ... Energy.  Whatever it takes. I just bought those physio latex bands to do the exercise that re aligns pelvis I learned in Pilates. I think lots of us end up with sacro iliac pain and unven pelvis, amongst other things, that is. I can report that at be year things are still changing and not necessarily for the better. The latest is a creak or clicking at certain angle rotating. I worry that a plastic socket is gonna wear out sooner and need replacing. God forbid I ever go thru it all again like some of you courageous victims...

The compression sheaths sound great, i will look them up (im in Bedfordshire uk) i have one of those elastic bands for exercises, hurts but sure its doing some good.

I find it quite worrying that people have so many difficulties after THR i was told it was a straight forward op and i would b good as new!

I get so tired so.  I even rested all weekend then Monday morning felt strange with some weird squeeking and ratcheting in my hip.  8 layed down iced and fell asleep.  I didn't wake up until 1pm.  Why was I tired?   We are healing machines right now.  So much energy goes into it I know exactly what you mean, I get tired fairly quickly and just want to lay down

Also, foot bath of Epsom salts. Alternate with footbath of oatmeal. Rub aloe Vera into foot and on the wound actually.  The leg massagers are called digital, compression leg massager.  I got delivered from a co up north specialising in sports injury equipment. You are welcome to collect my equipment.  OX17.   You need to use them. 3x p day for about 4 weeks. You will get addicted as they make you feel good.   I was about 4 weeks when I got them.  I still take a bath in Epsom salts or oatmeal. B kind to your body. It was a turning point when I bought that kit, crois-moi.   Sarah

Good question. I would personally think so, but worth checking... The amazon ones may give that co name. THey were helpful. Regrettably I have retained no info but if I can find the instr booklet tomorrow I'll let you know. I'm up late bidding  on ebay. Sad but true! One thing about being so low post surgery you're not even fit fir retail therapy! Plus I got so thin on starvation rations in hosp with one leg over an inch longer for 9 months plus not being able to dress self properly I became a scarecrow. Brought so low didn't wash hair for weeks. It makes me fearful now even thinking on that time. Thank god things do get better but u have to put life on hold fir a while.
