Hi Jacqueline;
I recently in the last month developed severe skin burning and insane itchingwitjoutbrash or hives. It came out of no where! I assumed it was allergies but couldn't pinpoint a cause. I took Zyrtec and Benadryl without relief. After pawing my body to the point of marking my skin for 5 days, l finally went to the doctor...it was driving me nuts! Not for one moment did l ever consider this to be a symptom of menopause until l saw your post. Though lm sorry you're experiencing this anomaly, you've given me some relief in now l don't fear l suffer from some crazy exotic disease so thank you! My doctor didn't have a clue of the origin either so she gave me a steroid injection and a script for hydroxyzine and wished me luck. The shot helped temporarily and the meds just sent me either into the twilight zone. Needless to say, 4 days after the injection, the burning and itching came back. I'm seeing my doctor on Friday and l will definitely bring this to the table.
I'm new to this menopause thing. I had my hysterectomy at 42 and have done great until perimenopause symptoms began just a few months ago but l feel lile total menopaude just crashed into me overnight...
Thank you again for your post. I wish l had some idea of relief for both of us. I will certainly report anything new my doctor recommends.

Hi there menosux - so sorry to hear of your discomfort regarding the itching & burning - haven’t had the itching (that will be next month Lol) The burning thing is very disturbing & I really don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t of found this forum...it’s comforting to know I am not alone & I am not crazy, cuz half the time I think I am since Drs & friends don’t seem to believe me - where do you get the burning sensation if you wouldn’t mind saying - thanks! Hope you get some relief soon -

Hello All - Ok, I have had for the last two nights the burning sunburn sensation on my back, chest & upper back & even though it woke me up, I managed to get a cold washcloth & go back to sleep. Last night was entirely a different story, while the intense burning pain woke me up AGAIN, I also got a pulsating head & rapid heartbeat...this lasted for sometime & I also felt agitated and extremely anxious - I was/am so scared, it’s like I am afraid to go to bed for fear I am going to experience this again. I also feel completely wrecked because of no sleep but also have a nauseous pit in my stomach. Burning sensation is less today but still there - What the heck is this? Is it hormones, anxiety, neuropathy, blood pressure issues, fibromyalgia? This is the third month I have gotten it all around the middle of the month...I tend to think it is hormone related, but I am 6 years since having a period..this is absolutely not fun!

Hi All - Well, I continue to have crazy burning & now the top of my right foot, front of my right calve is burning tingling. I went to a nutritionist who thought maybe this could be caused by chronic inflammation. At my last blood test, my inflammation score was a little high (which can be caused from anything from a toothache to arthritis). So I guess I am asking everyone who has experienced this burning if you know if you have elevated inflammation? I just want answers to know what’s really causing it since nobody seems to know. I swear, people are starting to think I am crazy with these symptoms -

Hi Debra,
I've always been a 'prone to nflammation' person but recently all blood tests came negative for inflammatory markers. I'm currently taking Turmeric capsules prescribed by my Rheumatologist for osteoarthritis and it is an anti-inflammatory drug. I had to decrease the dose because it has increased bleeding from minor bruises, but it seems a to be working because my joint pains have decreased a bit. My hands still ache, though. Too much typing! That's why I haven't been posting lately!
You could benefit from taking turmeric as it's a more "natural' approach then cortisone, but eventually you could see if your symptoms decrease while taking cortisone, then you would know that your symptoms are definitely linked to inflammation.
Hope they don't delete this post!

Hi Marilou - Thanks for your input - yes, I know about all the benefits of turmeric, but unfortunately I can’t take it. I suffer from Rosacea on top of all this menopause nonsense & tumeric just sends my flushing from Rosacea & menopause into overdrive. My acupuncturist tells me in Chinese medicine my body is “hot” & since tumeric adds heat, it is not my friend. I do eat a lot of fresh ginger though which also aids in reducing inflammation & use Chinese herbs. Ok, so now I am leaning to the cause of burning to be hormone related. Thank you!

Can you relate the burning with any activity or chemical products?
I have noticed that the burning sensation has decreased at the same time as I have stopped walking my cat, after he has been neutered and attacked by a stray cat he is not keen to go outside. The worst burning was in my left arm/hand which is the one I use to hold his harness. And I also used to be standing up there for long periods while walking him because cats are not like dogs, they don’t walk really! Just a thought.

When I had frozen shoulder it didn’t burn.
As far as my feet, it started last year a few months after I started bioidenticals. So I stopped taking them. But the burning persisted. And it’s def cyclical but can’t pinpoint it. And when I have the burning it will also go along with other pain in my body, depressed thoughts, headache which lasts only as long as the foot is burning, and lately my face starts feeling hot. I really truly believe it’s a version of a hot flash.
