Any news on the burning front, ladies?

I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndrome... hmmm still not convinced. Have been prescribed a lot of heavy stuff but still deciding if it’s worth the pain of so many scary side effects.

I had the burning face for almost a year. It was definitely not a hot flash as I have those now at night and in early morning and they are different. Hot flash is short and sudden but hot burning face would stay for hours nearly every day. My face would not look red but felt incredibly hot. No fever. My hot face would always accompany a migraine. They were awful.  Definitely a migraine phenomenon. But this hot face and migraine was the beginning of perimenopause for me. Had mri and ct of head and all normal btw.

Thanks, Andrea! Very interesting and helpful! My migraines seem to have morphed during perimenopause and now again after menopause. Yesterday I went to an appt with Neurologist and she has mentioned that CPS can be triggered by migraines.

If your burning is primarily lower extremities like some ladies on here I would investigate diabetic neuropathy. Sounds like a totally different thing. Upper body and face is probably migraine related. Just an educated guess though.

Mine is mainly arms, hands and fingers, particularly the right middle finger that is also showing signs of arthritis but all my autoimmune tests are negative, so Rheumatologist said it’s osteoarthritis but it appeared very suddenly so I’m not fully convinced.  Sometimes I feel the burning on my shoulders too. There’s probably more than one issue going on.

Glucose levels have increased since perimenopause and are higher than normal now but not diabetic levels.

I’ve had so many wacky symptoms during this Perimenopause I wouldn’t be surprised by any symptom. Seriously. Nuts. I have a burning feeling in the back left side of my throat and roof of my mouth that has no medical cause. With horrible metallic sour taste too. Ent and dentist can’t find a cause. Burning mouth syndrome?

The changes that estrogen can cause are astounding.

Absolutely! I have this thing now, but I'm almost 2 years postmenopause... Some studies suggest that women who experience these weird symptoms around menopause (apart from the obvious hot flushes, vaginal atrophy, brain fog) may have other underlying issues. Problem is diagnosing them!

Forgot to say, that can be caused by acid reflux... I've just read that fluctuating estrogen and progesterone can relax the stomach sphincter.

I've been having the same issues as all you ladies have been having. and my doctor tells me has no idea and have said checked my levels for medapause and was told I've got awhile for that. like you all said its pre and I think that's what it is. I get skin burn in feet, legs, back of neck, arms, hands.you name it but its generally around that time when it happens more. was wondering have any of you all had break outs acene like bumps in random spots also. and what other issues have you all had. its nice to know others are having some of the same issues and it's not me being crazy

hi chrissycass - i am post menopausal 6 years, but the last year my body has been burning pretty much everywhere. Mainly, back, base of neck, chest, front of legs, tops of feet. i have struggled with this for about a year - i even went to ER, it was so bad one night. (oh, and it generally strikes at night for me, but will linger during the day. ) Before the burning started, i used to get tingling mainly in my hands and feet and occasional electric shocks, also a vibrating feeling & yes, nobody knows what its caused from & even my dr has discounted that could have anything to do with hormone levels. i think i have had all 66 symptoms of menopause, but i was diagnosed with Rosacea & ocular rosacea about 6 years ago as well - i think because i suffer from flushing and hot flashes so much that my whole vascular & nervous system has gone haywire - you might want to check & see if you have rosacea, its fairly common in peri/menopause -

Yes, plus a host of other very unpleasant menopause symptoms.

    You are not alone. 😃

    Hello ladies,

    How are you doing?

I'm still having the burning thing, now and then, feet and hands.

I'm 20 months in with the burning. On my one good week a month I have no burning. Still predominately my left foot, but I'll get it in both, and up my legs.

Occasionally burning in my face or back or upper arms. I never sweat though, not like a normal hot flash.

It's definitely not hot flushes because I do have them and the burning doesn't coincide with them. I'm not saying it isn't hormonal related, only that the burning is not a sort of modified hot flush. It looks like a sort of neuropathy rather than a vasomotor symptom.
