    Short answer.

Hips are a DEFINITE FM thing, but it could also be radiculopathy (radiating pain) from something in your Lumbar Spine or Sacral area..like a pinched nerve or whatnot.

You have meralgia paraesthetica. As Ted hutchinson on said, a lateral femoral cutaneous nerve compression or stretch. Try this, take blunt pin and start stroking the skin a few inches from the numb area. You should fell first a slightly numb area and in the middle a more numb area. I have known folks who have had this. It can come I believe from poor posture, stretching the nerve in front of the thigh, or similarly from putting on weight or being on yor feet too long.

At times an area in the femoral triangle will need to be injected. I myself would try and resolve it by taking care of the cause if it is one of the affore mentioned. Not quite sure what chiro would do mind you.

That is exactly what I have been feeling. I have been suffering a pain in my groin for weeks now but that pain seems to have been replaced by the thigh burning sensation.

Thanks James you are absolutely spot on

Hi everyone, I'm new here, so a bit unfamiliar with how things work! Just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a fortnight ago and still reading up on it. I came across this post by accident but have experience of the burning pain. I have it regularly in both shoulders, thighs and calf muscles to date and it's horrible.Half expect my skin in the area to be red but it never is. Neurologist thought all this was MS, MRIs and other tests all squeaky clean. Has taken 4 1/2 years to get a diagnosis. This fibromyalgia has knocked me for six.

Your in the right place to connect with other people that have been diagnosed with fm.

It's only a couple of months ago that I was diagnosed with it and I seem to find that I have something new and when I come to this site sure enough other people have had the same sensation.

The burning thigh happened to me out of the blue.

I also struggle with a "weightless" feeling a bit like being on a swing and you reach the point where at the top and change direction,  this can happen any time but probably worst while in bed trying to sleep.

Keep looking here and your sure get support of some kind.

Thanks for replying. I can't say I've experienced the weightless thing but it sounds disconcerting, tho I suppose a lot of the symptoms we all experience are. I do feel spaced out at times. Has anyone been able to give you an answer to this one? Why or what causes the weightless feeling? I do however have what I call "blips" where I lose a second or two, strange. I was convinced I was starting to have seizures or worse still a brain tumour. Dramatic I know but before this diagnosis I just didn't know what was going on. Will no doubt see you pop up again, thanks smile

I have the same thing. I also have FM. It is not caused by FM. The pain I have started in the lower back/outter hip, then the front of the hip at the top of the leg and groin, and sometimes the femur felt like it was on fire, occasionally I'd hurt and be numb to my feet. I also have pain in my buttock and lower back, but not like sciatica, I've had that before on my other side and I know it's not sciatica. My leg became stiff, like a muscle cramping up instead of bone stiffness. I got my husband to manually do range of motion exercises with my leg/hip and this greatly helped. My doctor had MRI and Xrays of my hip, thigh, groin, and lower back done. I have just a touch of arthritis in the lower back and hip, but not enough to cause the pain I have been having. I've had a broken neck with fusion from C1-6, both hands carpal tunnel, left forearm, left knee, right foot, hysterectomy, and 2 C-sections. Frozen shoulder to boot. I have had a massive stroke with CVA that nearly killed me, and still I think this pain hurts the worst of all. My doctor believes it is Meralgia Paresthetica. This involves compression of the lateral cutaneous nerve. Restrictive clothing and weight gain are 2 common reasons for compression of a nerve. Also wearing something like slimwear or a girdle type garment can cause it. A good start to recovery would be to wear loose clothing and reduce the amount of pressure around the waist and hip area, losing weight, and resting from any activities that might agrivate it. I have been doing a combination of these things, along with range of motion therapy (done at home with the assistance of my husband, because it requires help to get the legs bent far enough). I am only about 10 lbs over weight for the chart, but I could lose a little more and that would be a good thing. I am slowly getting better, but it's taking much longer than I expected. Best wishes to you confused

    Hi Graham

Yes I have that too. I also have the sensation in my lower back and in the shoulder  blade area. It also happens when traveling in the car, in both legs.

I have the same issue. My upper thighs go numb, cold, and then I get like a painful prickly pear feeling when they wake up. It's been happening only in the last 3 weeks, I'm dealing with stomach bloating, dry skin and now this potful thigh thing. Can't get a diagnosis!

The prickly feeling is horrible...all of my face, my groin and my feet are affected. Missing a second is something I have experienced but only a few times. Weightlessness is something that happens often it's like I take a step forward and then everything slows down like an astronauts step and then as my foot meets the ground is land more heavily than a normal step.

Hi, I'm new to here but found this site today as I have been searching for some time for someone who is experiencing the pain I am.  I have had it for over 10 years. I worked at a job that required standing the whole time.  My thighs would get this terrible burning sensation in them.  The only thing that would bring relief is to sit down or to bend over and stretch for a minute or so. It would return that same day several times while standing.  Needless to say I had to quit a job that I really liked.  I went to the chiroprctor who told me that was the best thing I could have done.  He did fix my pain in my back (which is where we thought it was coming from) over a year and a half of treatments and now I've been on maintenance once a month treatment. But now I have gone back to that job that killed my legs because I'm helping a friend only for a few  months, and only for 2 days a week.  But the pain is so excruciating at times I'm almost ready to let out a scream. It feels like its burning hot, tingling, and like someone takes a knife and slices my thigh about 12 inches. Especially if I try and walk while it is on fire.  I talked to my Dr. and he told me it's my femoral nerve.  But didn't say what to do about it.  My chiropractor is trying to help me, and he has helped my back. He want's me to quit again, which I am and I may just reduce my hours on the 2 days I go in until my friend comes back to work in a couple months.    So what I want to know is - does this sound like your thigh pain?  Have you done any tests or medications that help.  I do not notice Aleve or ibuprofen helping much, neither does heat or ice.  Sitting/resting does.

I hope you have found relief. smile

    Thank you for listening.
