hi Gordon, i have the exact same symptoms, when i get up in the morning its fine until about 1 hour then it starts, pain in the centre of my back and radiating up to my left shoulder. My GP gave me Lansoprazol 30mg, but they didnt work so i was referred to a Gastro doc and had the camera down, turns outi have Barretts Epiltheium which is the bottom part of it is inflamed. I had biopsy as well and they are clear, he told me to keep taking the meds loose a bit of weight and take 70mg of aspirin which can help prevent cancer!

Hi, just to say I appreciate everyone's input. I d thought the syptoms were my heart. I live in Malaysia so have a ready supply of papaya ( paw paw) which is very good as a digestive aid. I believe you can get it in capsule form too. I hoping it will help . Too much spicy food here...!

Hi, I have written about these symptoms before and after 4 months of chest pain, lump in throat, pain in back, belching, soreness down centre of chest, cough etc I went back to GP as I have had enough. Chest X ray came back, bloods came back clear, 3 ECG's all clear. GP said it was GERD, I asked how can it possibly cause so much pain, apparently it does. So I am now on esomeprazole 20mg x 2 one morning and one in the evening, plus 150mg ranitidine x 2 again one morning and one evening. 3 days later all pain in chest gone, burping gone, back pain gone, throat all gone. I am not sure how good it is for me to take all this, but unless I come up with a miracle am not stopping. GP prescribed ranitine as I had only been taking the 75mg ones from chemist. He said the medications work in different ways and by god he was right. (ps. have been taking esomeprazole for 9 years without any problems what so ever),

      Youngatheart,

      How are you feeling now?

I have been burping like crazy as of late. I think my GI is all out of wack from taking some meds. My abdominal hurts with back pains.

      Thanks

I tried Nexium it works the same, although it took 2weeks to feel relief. I have the same condition and only took 3months break from Nexium cuz the excruciating pain and burping like hell comes back after.

I had this issue not too long ago. Went to the Gastro thinking I had a pancreatitis flare, but it was not pancreatitis. Had an endoscopy and I have a small hiatal hernia, so I'm thinking this is the cause for me. I frequently have chest pressure that radiates int my back (shoulder blade area) and sometimes up into my left shoulder/neck area. I feel worse if trying to sit up (like one would to drive).

I am very interested in this conversation. I had many of the symptoms described, constant burping, heartburn and back pain, between shoulder blades. Researching on the internet gave me great concerns, reading about the links between oesophageal cancer and the symptoms.

When I went for a massage, which I thought may help the back pain I was pleased to hear the masseuse say there were knots in my shoulders and a lot of tension in the muscles by my shoulder blade. I guess I was looking for a non reflux reason for my back pain.

I followed this up with a visit to a chiropractor who said the top of my spine was slightly compressed. Well, after a half hour of manipulation I got up and my back pain had eased and my heartburn had gone. Since then the burping has stopped and the heartburn has gone too. It's only been a few days but I feel so much better.

I had never considered that the back pain could be caused by my back pain.  I have started researching the connection between Gord/Gerd and back pain. It seems the nerves that control the operation of LES are in the upper part of the spine and any irregularities may cause a malfunction in the correct operation, resulting in acid reflux and burping. There is a lot of information online supporting this.

I would recommend anyone suffering with heartburn, burping and back pain between the shoulder blades goes for a session with a qualified chiropractor. It cost me £30 and half an hour and I feel like I've got my normal life back. I'm sure it won't be the cure for everyone but it may help you. As I said, for me it's only been a couple of days, I will try and update you with my progress after a week or so.

Last but one paragraph should "reflux - not back pain- could be caused by my back pain"

I have the very similar pain.. constant burping, chest burn, pain in shoulder blades, pain in ribs, as I wake up in the morning, burping starts... And all day the burping is horrible. It has no relation with my food - If I had food or not.. When I tried to explpain same situation to several people, nobody belived me.. Even my doctor was fun when I explained it - saying buping has no relation to pains and all.. But Muscle pains or nerve radiating pains or whatever one calls are getting horrible day by day - followed b burping too.. This is since 2 years, and since 1 year its been terrible... Felt really good finding this post and many people with similar problem as mine.. Thanks to all of you for all your inputs.. I am going to try some of them.. Chiropractor, if not probiotics and all... Who ever had this problems earlier, please share how your experince have been so far after using those medicines or going to Chiropractor... Please please that would be of great help!! Saving life really!!

Because its been quite a while, I couldnt explain my situation to my family fully and the doctor is anyway making fun, but not making attempt to understand what exactly is the problem or root cause..

In this post, I found people speaking my language and going through same kind of pain I am going through.. Thanks again to everyone for sharing details... and please share some more experiences after the treatments you have taken.. Thanks a tonn!!

I have the very similar pain.. Exactly the same words to describe even my pain/condition, but on a mystery on cure or understanding the root cause - constant burping, chest burn, pain in shoulder blades, pain in ribs, also pain in joints (specially left elbow joint) as I wake up in the morning, burping starts... And all day the burping is horrible. It has no relation with my food - If I had food or not.. When I tried to explain same situation to several people, nobody belived me.. oh my its so relieving to know I am not the only to have this condition, I thought I am getting crazy! I've had this condition about 3 years now. I burp like hell and back pain on my right shoulder is irritable. I work in the office and it hurts so much up to my elbow joints and finger tips too! I had Physical Therapy for 2 weeks, didn't help, I met with Chiropractor and had 2 sessions, didn't do any good! Had X-Ray, nothing was seen. Met with Internist, the Dr said its my muscle they get stretch everytime I burp. I was hospitalized once for acute Gastritis (and hypokalemia-not sure that relates to my burping). The Dr prescribed home remedy but all useless!!

I tried Nexium (I swear I am not advertising anything, I am not connected to anyone working in that company) I took for 4 weeks then took a break from taking it. it was not instant relief but after 2weeks of taking it religiously, my heartburn and burping was gone (although it would still comes back when I drink milk or eat steaks).. I have been normal for about 6 months but it came back right now I'm in so much pain (The reason I check online for some self diagnosed stuff 😫wink. I will get some Nexium again tomorrow and will see if this goes away again.

Still can't believe none of the doctors and professionals I've met gave the exact diagnosis on this condition. I feel the same way for you guys.. I hope we all find solutions to this pain.

Hi jancel. Is your pain in rightshoulder near the right shoulder blade? Does it happen as you burp, does it happen as you swallow food too? Mine does and I am getting obsessed that I have oesop cancer.

      Hi Lisa,

Yes!! its in my right shoulder near the shoulder blades and scapula, it always happen when I burp and have too much gas.. sometimes I feel like my left shoulder is doing the same thing now..it has quite loud cracking sounds whenever I would try to rotate my right shoulder, ohhh it hurts so much!! I just started taking Nexium (Esomeprazole) again.. hopefully next week will feel better..

      How are you feeling otherwise?

Thanks for responding!I feel otherwise fine!  I have of course Google diagnosed oesophageal cancer and have started driving myself crazy! It also happens when I swallow food, after say four or five bites, a weird little twinge shoots across to my right shoulder blade, then it goes away instantly! I have long had reflux, mildly really, I take a very small dose of lansoprazole which controls that. I would not say mine is as painful as yours sounds, it's more of a twinge.......
