Bursitis woes

Hello everyone, I am now 11 weeks post op and doing fine except I've now got trochanteric bursitis, I have been doing my exercises from the book I was given but I've had no physio and I'm not due to see my surgeon for another month.
My question is has anyone else had/have this problem and what would be the best exercises to relieve this?
I will be very grateful for any suggestions, my hip is fine but I'm having to take pain relief for this as its very painful.
Thank you.

Soft tissue problems are very common after THR. I've had this one, too.
Here is an excellent article about it from right here on Patient, with a summary, causes and treatment options:

Good morning Lulu75! I too was diagnosed with that after hip surgery. It is painful especially when you put pressure on that area. Clams is a good exercise for that. Lying on your good hip with bent knees, and your head, back and feet are lined up. Slowly raising your bent leg up to where you can feel slight tension then back down. You may want to have a pillow between your legs if you are still under hip precautions. Of course you really should consult a therapist as soon as you can. Can you request to get physical therapy? I'm a year out now and still have this. There are also injections but you need to talk to your dr. I haven't tried that yet as mine has started to calm down some. Have you been icing the area? Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery and healing. Hugs 🤗Linda

Hi Lulu. I have got this and had it for over 6 mths. Had every type of treatment but developed into Gluteal Tendonopathy. It had been suggested it's die to scar tissue forming over tendons.

Hi Lulu,
so sorry to hear this - I also was diagnosed with trochanteric Bursitis - My surgeon did not want to give me the injection yet and told me to ease up on the intensity of the exercises - keep moving but in a more relaxed way.
Apparently I had become very rigid , trying too hard, if that makes sense - especially walking like a soldier -- I did not realize that, to be honest ...
so challenging to walk "naturally" and be aware of posture, heel to toe steps and balanced ...
I liked to put a heating pad on the affected area ---
It is okay to take some pain relief though ...
It is disappointing, isn't it , but will go away ... if not, you can always ask for the shot !!
how are you doing otherwise?
big warm hug

Thank you kindly for all your responses, I have been quite tense in general, I noticed on Sunday when I went for a walk that it felt 'normal' like my hip has settled in, so I know I wasn't walking quite right!
I will have a look at your article in a mo thank you Annie, and thank you also Linda Nick and Renee
I hope everyone is doing well, I don't know about anyone else but I had no idea how tough recovery would be, it's reassuring for me to be able to come on here and get advice and support Thank you so much!

Hi Lulu , i had bursitis ,something similar to your problem after 10 months left hip replecement. I did see my GP and I was sent for scan and ex ray . I got the injection and so fare is ok no pain . You really should consult therapist asap and ask him for advice. I also contacted therapist in hospital and i got some streching excersice and some physio therapy in hospital.
