Butterflies in tummy 24/7 anyone else have this?

hi everyone,

for nearly a year ive been having anxiety, it all started after an operation.

was told by a home Dr oh its nerves, take some valium. Increase your anti dep.

its all gone downhill since then,  twitching, tremors in the night, dry retching has started. Worst of all is the constant flutters in my belly and bottom.

i am now on prozac 40 mg, 11 weeks in total.

i am in menopause too, so many odd symptoms with anxiety, is it anxiety, is it menopause. Im depressed now coz of all of it. I am 59 i had no idea anxiety was so awful! Can anyone tell me about the fluttering?

any comments would be appreciated, thanks so much!

"Butterflies" in stomach can of course be anxiety, dry retching I dunno.  If all of this started after you had an operation and it's getting worse, maybe a second opinion from another Dr. would be the thing to try.  Menopause can do all sorts of things including cause enormous anxiety and depression.  Can you find another Dr. for second opinion?  Just go in with these symptoms and say nothing about previous Dr.  Worth a try!!

Hi Carol, I am also going through menopause and have never suffered from anxiety as such in the past but for 2 months now I have been having dreadful physical symptoms that the doctors are saying could all be anxiety related. It started with a unbalanced sort of dizzy feeling when I was walking I was worried it might beMR as I had a sudden onset of all sorts of awful symptoms like pins and needles numbness fatigue no appetite and constant tremors through my head and body that feel like extreme nervousness .I feel like I'm walking on a boat also. . I have improved alot as the first few weeks I couldn't do anything I felt so awful. My head also feels kind of heavy and it's an effort to do things like sit at the computer and type. Do you have any of these symptoms. I am waiting on a specialist appt . I don't feel like mentally I'm overly anxious now but still have the unbalanced feeling and the nervous tremors inside. Like you in not sure if it's menopause related. Hope you are feeling a bit better now.

Hi lee thanks very much for your reply,

yes i have similar symptoms to you but i was diagnosed back in 1995 with CFS, it took drs many months to figure out what was going on with me. I was 38 at the time, nothing ever showed up in tests. This was after i had an operation too, now it seems its happening again after op last year. This time i have different symptoms. Less fatigue, more twitches, more odd skin sensations, more anxiety.

i have read that simetimes after an op the patient becomes depressed, anxious, i feel this has happened to me. Another lady here has suggested the same thing to me, im about to reply to her. Its quite commn but Drs dont discuss it often prior to medical procedures if ever.

i have felt like im just gotten off a boat for many years, i dont like some shops. High Shelves make me dizzy, and i cant stand lots of people around. I cant watch moving objects. CFS i accepted and coped well with for many years, now ive hit that brick wall.

i hope you continue to feel better, how was your hormone blood test?

do you eat small meals? Rest when needed, ask for help too!

      best wishes🐸

I had an operation and have had anxiety ever since. Dont know why.  Was fine before i went in for orthopaedic op.  Left now with terrible anxiety and referred to specialist who said needed Nti depressants.   Tried seceral, none have worked, my life as i knew it has slowed right down and i just cannot get a cure for post op anxiety! Have been reading about it and it happens to some people, so dont blame it all on menopause because mines over.  PS i couldnt tolerate prozac either.

      Hi Ann,

thanks very much for your post, yes i have read that depression, anxiety can be a problem after surgery. Its more common than Drs let on, and when ive suggested this scenario they all shake their heads and say they doubt  that. Ive been on anti depressants for a few years related to other health issue which i coped with, i changed to prozac in the hope the anxiety will be controlled, so that i can try to get through this rough patch. I know i will, im just still trying to get answers. Its a puzzle for sure.

      best wishes🌷

Very interesting - if i had known surgery coukd domthis i woukd have tried not to have it.  Where do we go from here.

I think it would be helpful to see how many other people have ended up with anxiety after having had an operation and why the medical profession will not acknowledge this is a problem for some of us, nor be able to treat it successfully. Anyone else out there having similar problems?

      Hello Angel

thanks for your response, i know i shouldnt be glad to hear that you have similar issue, but its a relief... im sure my Dr thinks im in her too hard basket. Good that you got some help from gastro doc, i may just ask about librarx. This anxiety is just so unlike me, since the op i had last year everythings just got on top of me!, ive had lots of tests and so many blood tests urgh. Do you take anything for menopause? I dont know which way to go now. Im taking diff vitamins and drinking good filtered water. Doing as much as i can, when i can with the help of a little valium very small dose. We just have to keep on keeping on! Thanks i hope you feel better soon!!🌺

Hi carol I can relate to the nervous tummy/butterfly feeling. Within an hour of waking it's there really severe, it makes me feel nauseous and want to go to the toilet all the time, the past 3 months I have been dry retching on a morning on and off.

The twitching for me is annoying, it's gotten worse. It started just above my left knee and now I get it all over my body, my hands, legs, stomach, arms, thighs, face, feet, chest (hate it in my chest as I think it's my heart) feels like someone's doing morse code on my body! It's not like a twitch where my limbs move or jerk (although that does sometimes happen) it's like the twitch u get in your eye. Iv been trying to find anyone else who gets this as I was worried.

My anxiety is really severe at the moment and has been for the past 4 & 1/2 months. I'm on citalopram 20mg and 20mg of propranalol 3x a day. Iv had a couple of good days between this time but then it just comes back a lot worse for a few weeks and I can't cope with it x
