It doesn't hurt, just a little dicomfort. Something like a thin catheter being inserted and couldn't really feel anything when it was inside. Can't remember what the procedure's called but I had one prior to my urolift to check through to and inside the bladder to make sure there were no other complications e.g. cancer of the bladder. everythig was clear so no problems.

Had it done twice. Not bad at all. Looking for stricture. Check bladder. He can tell if your prostate is squeezing your urethra closed. Cystoscopy is what it's called.

    Hi David,

I had a flexible cystoscopy at the beginning of October 2016 without any problems whatsoever except that whoever was holding my urethra straight, so the local anaesthetic could be squirted in, pulled too hard and dragged a piece of gauze over the end of my penis.  It was worse than being poked in the eye!

Try to get a flexible rather than a rigid cystoscopy.  If you're having the procedure in the UK you'll probably get a flexible anyway and you can ask to be sedated if you're nervous.  The surgeon will take you through the gloom and doom possibilities (damage to the bladder wall, bleeding, having to have a catheter fitted) but in my opinion that's just the hospital covering their arses.

I had no side effects except that my first pee stung a bit but everything else was OK.  After the cystoscopy I was prescribed Finasteride to shrink my prostate and that medication had horrendous side-effects for me.

I hope everything works out for you.

Plus the usual big cipro to prevent a UTI. Lol. Hate those things.

They can see if it's pinching off your urethra or any other strictures

Didn't get any antibiotics at all.  I overheard someone ask my urology consultant and he said "No".  Luckily I didn't need them.

With a flexible cystoscopy they put the cystoscope through the prostate into the bladder and pump sterile water into the bladder so they can have a look round at all of the bladder wall.  The cystoscope is so flexible that thay can turn it 180 degrees and look back at the prostate and guage its size.  That's how they found I had an enlarged median lobe and that my bladder wall was trebeculated.  Yes, I had to look both up!

what happen did you get it sorted and what r both thing mate

Then they have to determine how large it is. Do more testing. Urodynamics, cat scans, maybe MRI, ultrasound. Do some research on procedures. Some only need a urolift. That's the least invasive with the least possible side effects. It's important to find out what's going on. If you have bladder issues, a prostate procedure won't help. What symptoms for you have? Why the scope? If the doc trys to jump into surgery without more tests, I would get a second opinion. Some surgeries have irreversible side effects you may not want.ask a ton of questions. Especially about retrograde ejaculation. Some try to hide that one. I was lucky to get a good doc. Some have had horrible outcomes. Do your homework.

Go on YouTube. See videos of it. That little button he moves with his thumb makes that scope end move. Pretty cool.

Can look that up on YouTube to. It stands for trans urethral resection of the prostate. They go up threw your urethra and use a hot wire to take out material. That's old school. Button plasma Turp they use a button shaped device to vaporize tissue. Usually low temperature plasma energy instead of heat. There's other options. If you go threw the forum you'll see other procedures like pae etc.

Turp is. They put you out. In hospital a day or 2. Depends on how much he does.

I'm not sorted out completely.  I had a Urodynamics Test five days ago and I believe the consultant will use the results to see what to do next.

Urodynamics is basically a test that shows flow rate and retention if any. Also if you strain to urinate and bladder contractions. ultrasound will show more along with MRI and other imaging if needed.

how long you had it mate mine think it prostatisus

ok if you pee fast and can pee from 2 foot away is that a sign you have not got it

Good flow rate is a good sign of no prostate issues. Not emptying your bladder could be bladder muscles issues. Bladder kneck issues.
