can a steroid injection make hip pain worse

I am going to need a replacement soon but my pain clinic dr gave me this injection in my hip 4/5 wks ago.

The next day okay but then OMG the pain I am getting is terrible. Never ever been this bad! my groin and thigh are excruciating also my down the front of my shin and ankle and a stabbing pain in my buttock.

I can hardly walk with the pain and don't know if it is a hip flare up or the injection. It just seems funny that all this bad pain started after the injection.

I did have some hip pain before but tolerated it and was waiting for it to get really bad before I consented to a replacement. never had pain like this it brings me to tears and O wondered if any had experienced this or is it normal for a bad hip. Thankyou.

I had an intra articular hip injection of Kenolog in late December.  I had excruciating pain while receiving the injection. The anesthesiologist said he was going to try to inject the medicine under the cap.  The pain has been so bad I have not been able to put any weight on my leg.  The pain in my leg was not near as bad before the injection.  I do believe the anesthesiologist hit my femoral nerve.  My doctor has diagnosed it as sciatica, placing the blame on the minor arthritis in my back.  I have been taking Gabapentin and am slowly getting some relief.

Maxine 02788 what your going though is normal. You could be having what as known as a flare. Sometimes the injection and cortisone hits a nerve, and it flared’s out Pain oh yea. I find iceing, rest, and of course  Tylenol help greatly. It is normal, just take it easy for the ext few days. It will get better. Yuki

Thank you for your reply. It is almost three months since I had the injection. The pain was from my hip down the front of my leg. It was so severe I could hardly walk for 2 months. It is better now but I now have worse hip pain and now occasionally knee pain. Tylenol did not help.

Maxine yea been going though same thing, but can’t do any surgery now, still waiting for hubby to get better from his second hip replacement. I’m with you, I ice, and use heat pad. I do a lot of stretching. I still work, and can’t take time off. It’s a pain. Yuki

im in the same boat. I got a hip injection and a month later I'm in more pain now than before the injection. Did you ever get better?

I had a cortisone injection in my hip about a month ago. All was going well, and then I tripped across a floor mat and landed on a tile floor. Since then, the pain was worse than it was prior to the injection. I have surfed the web trying to find any information on effects if trauma after having had the injection but haven't found anything even close.

So, I'm wondering is anyone on this thread might have had a similar physical trauma experience that changed the level of their pain.

    Thanks ahead of time!!

I had the injection, but my hip was too far gone. I can tell you that a friend of mine had more pain in her knee after the shots. Also, an MRI taken several months after the injection still showed the affects of the shot. My surgeon said it made it worse.

I wore Leggs active support pantyhose...it helped Alot.
