Can BPPV cause you to see eye floaters?

I’ve experienced vertigo twice..during the night in December and during the night in February. I’m assuming it was bppv..I’ve been to the doctors and they were no help and kept misdiagnosing me and just prescribed me anxiety pills. So doing my research on the Internet, it seems that what I had was bppv.

So the last time I had the vertigo sensation was in February during the night. But then a few weeks later in March, I noticed I was seeing eye floaters. I went to my regular eye doctor and she said my eyes were fine and that it’s normal to have eye floaters..they’re just collagen fragments in the eyes that everyone has.

I wanted a 2nd opinion so I went to the retina doctor. He looked inside my eyes and said everything looks healthy. He just said I had normal eye floaters and that I just happen to see them now. I asked him if vertigo could cause me to see eye floaters and he said it doesn’t. But I just thought it was too much of a coincidence that now I’m seeing eye floaters after having those vertigo spells.

So is it possible that the vertigo some how triggered me to see eye floaters now?  Or is it just a coincidence?

If you’d have bppv before, does that mean that you’ll have vertigo episodes for the rest of your life? Or is there a chance that you’ll might not experience vertigo anymore?

It really depends on what the original cause was in the first place and the person. Research shows that 20% of the population experience vertigo at some point in their life. But not everyone experiences chronic vertigo of BPPV. I would be to continue to keep track of when they occur and follow up with your doctors. It's important to rule out any other underlining causes.  Yours seems to happen in bed, which is very common for BPPV. I have a friend who told me about simbalance systems. They have a website and facebook page if your interested in checking it out. She uses it at night for her bppv and whenever she has a flare up for doing the epley but says it doesn't happen very often anymore since using one. Basically it helps keep your head at an angle so you can move the crystals into place. If that is what your dealing with. Hope your finding relief and getting some answers!

Ssthb, I know how you feel. I'm always wondering when my next migraine will hit, because I know it'll take days to recover and I can't do a thing about it. I can go months and sometimes even years before I get another one. I can only imagine vertigo does the same to a person. I have a few friends who experienced BPPV. For one it was just a one time thing it seems, brought on by something they did but my other friend has it chronically. I would always advise you be talking with your doctor to make sure it is only bppv and not anything else, but good news is, it is almost always manageable. Every case is different but having an ENT or other specialist preform an Epley often does the trick. If it does come back just become familiar with the maneuvers. My friend says she found a simbalance pillow system that has helped with her chronic bppv so that she could finally return to work. Hopefully yours will not return but if it does come back maybe you can look into that too?

?By the way, you mentioned it's been several months since the vertigo, but are you still getting eye floaters now?

The last time I had vertigo was in February and yes i still see the eye floaters now(started noticing them in March)..I mainly see them when I’m outside and look up at the sky or I see them when I look up at a plain white wall or something similar. I went to the retina doctor about them last month and he said everything looks fine inside my eyes and there are no concerns.

I’ve also been noticing blue field entoptic phenomenon. I asked the retina doctor about that and he said that is normal as well and don’t need to worry about it.

But the past few months or so I’ve also notice ‘afterimages’ more. If I read a word on a sign and then look at a blank wall, the word will flash on that wall and goes away.

I just think it’s very odd that these vision stuff has been happening since the last episode of vertigo in February. But I don’t understand why.

Did the vertigo mess up the part of my brain that controls my vision? Is my brain still trying to heal/compensate itself from the vertigo in February?

I have had this a similar issue and have been to my eye doctor, ophthalmologist, primary doctor, vertigo specialist, neurologist, nonone can figurenit out. my vision blurred and then I got dizziness that was debilitating for 7 to 10 days and comes and goes now, it’s been six weeks now.  the best guess that its a vestibular issue that is causing balance and blurry vision, Which is not the same as vertigo and with the crystals in your ear but supposedly can be treated over time by the same type of Vertigo rehab specialist. I am also noticing floaters more often and it seems like my eyes focus on them. Its rather annoying, I’m currently doing Vestibular rehab Exercises, will see what happens.
