Can bppv clear on its own?

So it's been 8 weeks now and I'm showing no improvement

I've been doing vestibular rehab exercises for 6 days with no difference

I'm so miserable it's untrue

I've a 8 wk old baby and a 4 yr old son

I can hardly look after them

I'm so miserable that I'm crying all the time as I want to be able to drive and show my boys off,, people telling me I'll get better but I've not heard of people getting better on their own

I'm scared I'm going to be like this for the rest of my life and that so upsets me 😓

Yes I'm in the uk too and it's upsetting me that I can't drive my son to school

Had no referral off the gp to an ent specialist which is a disgrace in my opinion

Only getting the rehab through bupa but even these haven't suggested ent referral

JUST DOnt knoe what way to turn

That's crazy I got an ent referral from my go I'm in the UK also. The wait time was 18 months to be seen at an ent on NHS... which I found unbelievable... I went private to see an ent specialist.

are you still getting proper Vertigo on certain head turns or are you like me?

I suggest you go to Drs and demand to be seen by ENT x

18 months? Where are you? I've got mine through for 6th April so a six week wait. Mind you I've chosen a small local hospital in my town I may yet get referred elsewhere with more waiting.

I've heard Ireland is bad for referral times x

I'm in Liverpool, I've been seeing a nurologist as I also lost feeling in my arm after the c section

But didn't know that only an ent specialist performs the epily manoeuvre

Which is what I want them to do

So I've just rang bupa now for some details

I'm just wondering why this wasn't mentioned to me previous as I was in tears in the clinic on my first appointment

Hi Lynsey, It's not only ENT specialists who perform the Epley. There are specially qualified physiotherapists who make a much better job of it by all accounts. However, I suspect you might have to start out by going through an ENT if you're in the UK. I'm not sure how your system works.

My GP did an Epley (although a bit different to how I've seen it on YouTube). Didn't do anything for me but I don't think he did it right anyway. Not sure it would work anyway now as not got proper spinning Vertigo anymore so I'm lost. I'm just waiting for my ENT appointment. Got MRI in April too just to play safe my Dr said x

N Ireland... it's a crazy long wait time for ent referrals here.

That's just ridiculous....so you're just left in limbo to get on with it with no answers 😩😩

I was initially told that I probably had Ménière's disease and the thought of waiting 2 years for an ent appointment made me decide to pay privately to see what was going on. I def feel a lot better after the dr at ent did the epley maneuover. I am still left with occasional dizziness and vomiting, bunged up ears and tinnitus in both ears. So although I have been diagnosed with bppv in right ear I am wondering if i possibly have Ménière's also...Not much being done to resolve anything. Just a waiting game to my NHS ent appointment comes in... another 16 months left to wait... depressing!

      Oh jeez that long

      It's an absolute disgrace

What's the difference with menheres disease

Ménière's disease has many different symptons, too many to write here. Basically vertigo attacks, bunged up ears, tinnitus etc.. quite similar to bppv. That's why gp thought I had it.. as I had all those symptons.. Some people have more symptons and some less.

It does sound like Menieres to me. I'm just gutted that you have such a long wait for ENT and to go private is so expensive...if I could I would but just can't afford it x

It's crazy.. I paid £185 for 20 mins.. so expensive..

And for that £185 did you get any further forward? X

Yes I def feel a lot better. He did the epley procedure and it left me feeling a tad sick and dizzy at the time but now two weeks later I feel so much better. I def think it was worth saving for as I was taking meds for Ménière's and now I am cutting down meds, whereas I would have been on those meds for 18 months before being diagnosed at ent. That procedure means that I am able to drive, work and when I roll over in my sleep the bppv does not wake me up anymore so I def have benefited from more sleep.

THATs good news, I look forward to the day I can drive again and even go out ! This has made me housebound (except going for a walk with my baby)

Yes I know how you feel as I have had this since oct last year and am only starting to feel normal-ish now.

I'm just concerned that some websites say BPPV clears up on its own within 2 weeks?

My specialist said bppv could take several months to level out. Other people have it for less time and some for longer it just depends on the treatment and severity, plus everyone is different. It may even go by itself.

Thanks Sharn...I'm hoping by the time my ENT appointment comes I'll be at least 90 percent better. I'm trying to look at the positives, I'm better now than what I was the first month of this so maybe that's a sign it's settling slowly on its own 🤔
