Can coming off an anti depressant screw up your cycle??

Hi ladies!  Totally annoyed right now.  Waiting to take  BCP to regulate hormones and I am supposed to take after my period starts.  The last 5 months it has been 21-26 days and very light.  Prior to that I have skipped a month here and there.  I am on day 34 now.  I took Lexapro from June 5th, to last dose Sept 13th.  Then, started amitripyline for migraines last week.  Has anybody ever stopped an AD, started another and had it mess up their cycle?  I am thinking it will come any minute...all the symptoms are there!  But, I have had the ghost period months too.  Or maybe it will come tomorrow! I dunno!

Lou - I am having a good feeling that once you get those steady hormones back into your body you will stop with the migraines and vertigo. Please PERIOD - make your appearance!!!!

Oh I hope so Finny!  🙏. If Auntie Flo doesn’t come this week...I will call my obgyn and see if I can just start them next Sunday!  Whatever the consequences.  Could still come tonight...technically Sunday where I live...so I could start then!  😉

    Hi Lou

It sounds like you are entering the window of menopause with the slipping going on.

I don't think the AD's have much to do with the cycles, as they are psych meds.

Why did you d/c the lexapro .I remember trying it for 10 days, had to stop.

    hoping all is going well.

Hi Mauiblue!  It was making my vertigo so mych worse...just felt numb and didn’t care about it most days.  Driving was awful... I felt under the influence between the Lexapro and vertigo!  Stuck it out 3 months.  Dr agreed if my problem was stemming from anxiety it would have helped.  No side effects when I stopped too. Hope you are doing well too!  🤗

      Thanks Lou

Losing estrogen and having a little frame for sures is a huge hard time to deal with it. im slim, and when my high estrogen plummeted to nil, so did my life, so yes, estrogen is EVERYTHING.

Vertigo is debilitating,, you cant do anything if its severe. I remember a month ago i had it but it was because of the crystals being thrown off in the canal, and did the Epley maneuver and it resolved. its was super ridiculously whirly..

i think your vertigo is different? Glad you are off the medication and no problems. If i could find an antidepressant or anything for that matter that helped me ut of the trenches im in, i would take it without thought.

we need to try and do whatever it takes to be well, and balanced and to carry on. Ive two boys- teens, and i understand your position. One of them is going the wrong way, cant tell you how it is for me day to day.

So wonderful to have you on this forum, and everybody else.

    Hello my friend Lou,

I am not o doctor but I believe that antidepressants disrupt the balance our hormones and our cycles. If you read the instructions and warnings on them, they have dangerous side effects for women in pregnancy and women of reproductive age.

Today, it was a bad day for me, awful migraines  and I was ready to take 1/2 Xanax but I avoid it. I do not want to rely on  any AD and harm myself more

We need estrogen and right treatment not antidepressants which create more problems to our bodies.

Hi Evi!  So sorry you’re having a migraine??  I will say that the amitripyline is helping out with my sleep...for now.  Time will tell for the migraines and dizziness as prescribed.  Take good care! 🤗
