Can't Handle Perimenopause Symptoms Anymore!!!

I think I have been in perimenopause for about 8 years now. I will be 49 in April. The last 10 months of my life have been horrible. The symptoms never seem to let up. They are only getting worse. My quality of life is absolutely terrible. The Jitters, Anxiety, Heart Palpitations, Panic Attacks, Blurred Vision, Dizziness, Off Balance Feeling, Pressure in My Head, Etc are ruining my life. I don't know what to do anymore. I have lost 20 pounds, eat organic and clean, no sugar, salt, caffeine or chocolate. I take a ton of supplements, progesterone cream, some soy, amino acids, calcium magnesium vitamin d fish oil, do acupuncture etc. Can't shake these terrible symptoms. I feel hopeless like this is who I will be for the rest of my life. I cry every morning when I wake up because I feel this way every morning. I don't even recognize myself in the mirror anymore. Went to Target with my Mom the other day and got stuck at the end of an isle holding on to a shelf for dear life crying. I felt so off balance, had a panic attack and couldn't move for a minute. This can't be my life forever. It's horrible. I want to go on hikes like I use to, go to the beach and boogie board again.. I cry just typing this because now I can't seem to do anything without having a panic attack. Sorry for this vent I'm just so discouraged by these symptoms that just don't stop

    Hi debbie

I was in peri for 8/9 years, i havent had a period now for 1 year, so, your considered post then, your symptoms should start to decline then, and give you your balanced feeling you need for relief, from your thread your doing everything you should be doing, its just time, and trying to keep it under control as best you can, until you finish, it will get better when you stop, you will continue having fluctuations in temperature after your post, this is  a sign you are in post, the heat symptoms can then last for a further 5 years, total 15 years from start to finish, some can be a lot quicker, and unfortunately some women can be on it longer than 15, i would have to get HRT then im afraid, drs are a total waste of time its all down to money like everything else, arrogance, and ignorance, one dr tells you one thing, the other contradicts it, and your left in the middle coping with it all, then when they dont know whats wrong with yhou, they fill you up with anti depressants, and anxiety pills, and tell you you need to relax!! if not that, then its all in your head................how many women have been sent to see people with that, and all that time its been the menopause, and know one spotted it.......................absolutely sickening.

      Hi Elaine,

I really just think it's "jobs for the boys" they must know by now that women of a certain age have meno problems.

I think it just looks good on paper and stops everyone even thinking that their symptoms are related to meno.

I didn't even know about perimenopause and mine was blamed on psychiatric problems. I was also sent to other specialists neurologist dermatologist etc.

What a waste of money and resources when a good meno doctor could have dealt with it all with HRT!

Monique, Zigangie.............totally agree with what you have both said, your not gonna believe this, i saw my specialists today for my chronic f,atigue, got on the subject of menopause, and he said, cant believe what you ladies go through with menopause, my wife has just started it, and shes swelling up all over the place, hands feet, face, i had to go ont he web site for her, and found something, called 35 menopausal symptoms you never knew existed, im a specialists, and even i didnt know this, my wife kept saying to me, but your a dr, you should know, so diagnose me!! but hes not a specialist in menopause............i wanted to scream at him, well you should know anyway, your wifes right, its all chemistry/bilology isnt it, surely the exam covers it.  like we have all said before, if it doesnt show in your bloods, then your mad, because the tests says your normal physically!! and you cant be on the menopause cos your not 51........................ha its bad enough going through it, without all that, and then they convince us were mad,  like you say, what a waste of money, just get your head from up your backside, and PLEASE listen to us, we know our bodies best, forget the tests as blood tests can lie and dont class us all as the norm, just because it goes against what you have read in  a medical journal................  .

Oh Debbie I could have wrtten that paragraph about my self. I have every one of your symptoms! I did not do well on progesterone and estrogen bioidenticals (I am post) I am just coming off them after trying for 4 months. I felt more anxious with bad heart palps. I just got a prescription for Xanax and have only taken it twice when it got so bad.  Just remember the "core" of you is still there, and just keep telling yourself you will get through this. Any kind of movement and or distraction helps.  I did yoga this morning and cried all the way through the dvd but it was better than sitting there feeling the symptoms.  This may sound paradoxical, but it has helped me to "allow' the feeling to be there and not try to make them go away. It some how at least stops more adrenalin from releasing. Just know there are others like me who have it all like you..I refuse to give up and continue to pray for it to end soon.

Hi Debbie, do you have a local 'Well Womans' clinic? as I am sure there is HRT you can take with periods.

When I went to see my doctor he said I couldnt take HRT as I had high blood pressure but he was incorrect & when I went to a 'Well womans' clinic (at the surgery) she was fantastic & started me on HRT, I feel so much better & normal again! Good luck X

    Hi Debbie,

Wow best description ever written of peri menopause . Sadly it is a rough ride for many women. I suffered beginning in my 40's prior to that I suffered extreme PMS, I fought Birth Control pills as suggested by my gynecologist until I like you was at my wits end. I went on a BCP Ovacon 35 which shut down my own bodies ability to produce hormone fluctuations. I was 45 when I took the BCP plunge I never felt better! I was still getting a monthly menses

I was 51 when I stopped getting it 12 months without but I had developed HBP so my gynecologist transitioned me to HRT and was also prescribed BP medication which lowered my BP. I will be 60 this August and have attempted to stop the HRT several times. I have been unsuccessful each time. I become symptomatic just like you all over again. So it is apparent to me I need to stay on the HRT and for whatever reason I have always been predisposed to extreme hormonal fluctuations. Some women are not and they are the lucky ones. I am in the USA and am fortunate to have a doctor who gets it, he is my age and who knows perhaps his wife maybe just as unfortunate as those of us on this forum. I hope you find a doctor who just writes you a prescription for a BCP that will stabilize you now and an HRT that will continue to support you when you get into menopause. The best I ever felt was being pregnant if that is an indication of shutting off whatever hormonal fluctuations I experienced when not, then I wished I had listened sooner to my doctor then. You are not crazy you do not need a psychiatrist you need to stop the fluctuations and stabilize yourself with a BC pill for now. HRT later. Hugs to you and all the ladies here.

      Hi loretta,

Maybe that's why we suffer. I always felt brilliant when I was pregnant. A little bit of sickness with the third one. Even so I just felt great.

Sorry to hear that Debbie. I do know how you feel. As I type, I've got an ache running from my right hip down my leg, ringing in my ears, I've yet again had palpitations two days in a row, my scalp feels like it's been battered and other symptoms too. The list seems endless, even more than the 66 symptoms list but you obviously know how it feels. The anxiety is horrendous. I don't know what to suggest, other than to try and relax and take your mind off things. Thank goodness for you ladies here. Good luck and I hope this will eventually lift for you and us all x.

Hi Debbie, reading your post has just perked me up! Everything you gave written is me! The only difference is I am on HRT. I had. TAH 2 years ago and was put on HRT straight after. Since then Drs changed the HRT the surgeon put me in as it was deemed too expensive. They then increased my dose, had 18 months of mild symptoms then put on patches! Then BAM- I have had every symptom you have written!

I have had Ecg etc all come back normal. Back to Drs tomorrow. How are you doing now?

Hi Debbie. I know exactly how you feel. I couldn't cope with the anxiety and depression. After researching menopause and finding this site I became convinced the depression was hormonally caused and went and saw a consultant who specialises in menopause. I wanted bio identical HRT that bypassed my liver. I have been on HRT for about 5 weeks and cannot believe the difference. I don't like going down that route but was so desperate I couldn't continue as i was. It's individual choice and doesn't suit everyone but anxiety and depression so much more controllable. I also take vit b complex but no other supplements. Take good care. Xxx
