Can't see after cataract surgery

I had cataract surgery in my right eyes 3 weeks ago and my monofocal lense was set for distance. I was told before the surgery that I would possibly need to wear readers. Well I have noticed that immediately after the surgery and to this day, that I still can not see the regular print and small print on various things, even with readers on. I tried like 4 different power readers and everything is still supper blurry. I see fine with distance but everything close up is bad. I can't see the computer well and cooking is a challenge for me with the readers. I suppose to have my other eye done on dec 8 and im nervous. My surgeron wants to make that eye set at intermediate. I don't know if it should. Should i get a second opinion? By the way I was told i had some of the worst cataracts my doc have seen and i was legally blind in both eyes without glasses before the surgery. But when i when to my next day post op, he said my vision in the operated eye was now 20/30.

Although you say your distance vision is fine, I'm wondering if that may be because you aren't trying to read at that distance so your standards are lower. I'm wondering if you might be left with some residual astigmatism, which can blur vision a bit at all distances. Perhaps its not to cause enough issue at distance to bother you, but enough to cause problems with reading. Off the shelf readers don't correct for astigmatism, but they can prescribe readers that do, or they can perhaps correct the astigmatism with an incision, which some surgeons do right in their office since its a minor procedure (often an LRI, limbal relaxing incision, but sometimes the incision is placed elsewhere), or can correct via laser.

Have you had a refraction since the surgery? I'd be curious what your vision in the operated eye is, and what you best corrected vision is. A refraction will tell you what your vision is in that eye without glasses or contacts, what it can be corrected to, and your vision is with both eyes. That would be the first step, before trying readers.

Can you see well enough in a mirror to use make up or to remove an eyelash, for example.
DI'd you have laser or traditional?

Update-11/21/16: I don't know what the heck is going on but my vision in my corrected ete has been deteriotating for the past week now. I noticed about a week ago that the tv starting looking blurry to me but at the time i t didnt bother me. Now fast forward to 2 days ago and everything is blurry, I got on my laptop today and i cant see anything clear, even with my readers on. I can barely see this screen as im typing this right now. So i just looked in the mirror to check my eye and it looks like there is some sort of white gel or something in my eye. It was never rhere before. It was bad enough that i could not see close-up even with readers on, but now it looks like everything is going black again. Do yall think i can contact my surgeon tomorrow ro see if i can come in asap to get this checked out? My next surgery for my left eye is dec 8 but i need this right eye fixed again right away. As im typing this im starting to feel alot of pressure in my eye. Arghh.... I need help please.

If your eye looks cloudy or white, it could possibly be a posterior capsule opacification or PCO. Our eyes have cells that constantly grow more natural lens material (this is why our natural lens becomes thicker and thicker as we age). After cataract surgery, sometimes these cells clump together and become opaque instead of clear. Usually a quick treatment with a laser gets rid of the problem. For sure schedule a visit with your surgeon as soon as possible.

Did the surgeon check for Retinal Detachment? That's what happened to me.
Had a 2 hr. Retinal surgery on Fri just 2 days ago. Have to wait at least 2 weeks to find out if I can see. Please don't wait around, it's you eye sight. See a specialist right away. Hopefully it's something less serious .
Sending prayers your way

Retinal tears usually preceed detachments, and most commonly cause symproms such as a burst iof light and a sudden increase in floaters. Often there is a "curtain" effect that affects vision. Anyone who has had eye surgery or has high myopia who experiences these symptoms should be seen immediately, in an emergency room if an immediate appointment with a retinal specialist is not available.
Cloudiness after cataract surgery might be a symptom of a PCO, as I described above. A cataract surgeon can repair this if that is the cause.

What was the outcome for your problem? I had my right eye done 6 days ago. Both eyes were fine with glasses and fair without, but had horrible glare when driving at night and so cataract surgery was recommended. I have not been able to see anything since the surgery. It is so blurry... just like I'm looking through a white table napkin. I wish I had never gotten this surgery. The office I go to does not seem concerned. Should I go to someone else? Did your vision ever clear up? I haven't heard of anyone else that went in with reasonably good sight and came out without being able to see anything but shadows in a white cloud.
