Prostate Problem for 3-4 years. I'm on Tamsulosin and Finesteride. Don't think they are working. Could mean an op. Benign Hyperplasia the Consultant called it. Pee a lot.

How big is your prostate and did he mention any particular procedure?

Having an MRI will tell what size is your prostate and thus whether it is pressing on your bladder. You say tamulosin is not working, so a procedure may be necessary.. A PAE (which is not invasive) may be your answer but a urologist does not do them (and may not recommend). It is a specialised radiologist

If the pills don't work the only other thing mentioned was an op.

That is the eventual option.

Doug, I had three turps in 15 years. If I were you, I would ask your uro to see how CIC would be for you. Instead of going into surgery, why not go for the less invasive stuff first? CIC, might be what you need. I am doing that now, and when you drain your bladder with the catheter, it will feel the best! Who knows, your bladder might be able to recover, because now, it is functioning as it should: full, then empty, then full again. If cic is not for you, then you may have to do surgery. Good luck!

How did your Uro account for needing so many in that time ? When I had GL my prostate regrew in 8 0r 9 ears. The next uro I saw said you would not be back here in that time if you had had a TURP.

In my case, it grows back quickly. I had greenlight, the fist time, and my prostate grew back in about two to three years! My uro, had no comment about why my prosatate, grew back so fast. He is a really good surgeon, in my opinion. I just I'm just unlucky when it comes to that part of my body!

The second time I had Thulium/Holmium laser surgery in 2013 at a different hospital. He suggested I take Avodart to prevent it from growing again. I said No to Avodart and asked at my age has it time to grow again. He looked at his screen and noted that I was then 78. He said perhap's not. In theory it grows more slowly as we get older.

You should get a workup from a good urologist. That means a scope to measure your prostate size and position and a urodynamics test to see if your bladder function (or lack of ti) is contributing to the problem.
FWIW, the drugs don't help most people with BPH.

You should find out the root cause of your prostate issues
I advice rigorous prostate massage ....just a suggestion. Its painful the first few times.
N you can try the supplement or find something similar.
I have not seen or heard of any body who got better with those medicines. It only progressed to cancer for them
Try the healthy diets too. Leafy green veggies, etc, exercise , dont sit continuously for more than 45 mins

I had issues with peeing alot too. I had a turp operation. The bad thing about it is that there is a 6-8 week recovery and occasionally longer. I am still recovering and have to wear a condom catheter because of an urgency to pee after the operation. It has been a pain to do that because some of the urine bags attached to the catheters have faulty drainage valves, meaning it can leak and it's not fun. If you can, try to get the Rezum operation because there is no recovery time I believe. It's a new procedure.

In this day and age, I can't see why anyone would have a TURP that has a 10% chance of ED, a 100% chance of RE, lots of bleeding and a long recovery period when there are other less invasive procedures available that have a lower morbidity, less complications and a faster recovery time. Rezum is just one of them.
.
My Rezum worked as planned. I highly recommend Rezum instead of TURP. Just make sure to find a urologist that has done enough Rezums (50 plus) as it is a relatively new procedure having been approved by the FDA at the end of 2015. Some urologists have not done a TURP in over 10 years in favor of more modern procedures.
.
After my Rezum, I had a Foley for 2 weeks while the swelling went down. I started to open up at 4 weeks and had a strong flow by 8 weeks. After 5 months my flow is strong but often short. I can tell that my bladder is weak. I am still self-cathing once a day to fully empty because of my damaged bladder which hopefully will recover over time.
.
Since you mentioned a condom catheter, I had no problems with the Foley and self-cathing.
