Can you still have a uti even if culture came back negative.

Hello,
So basically I've been suffering with bv, yeast infections and Uti's. I've had 3 different antibiotics for bv, and 2 for Uti's. During my last rounds of test everything came back negative, but the problem Is I still have symptoms. It burns when I pee and it smells bad. No frequency. But sometimes when I go pee only a little comes out and the pee is cloudy. My urologist wants to talk about the possibility Of having interstitial cystitis.i rather not have that because there is no cure. I also don't feel like I have that, but maybe I'm just in denial. My question is could I still have a uti even if the the cultures I got were negative? Could it maybe be a small uti? Is it possible. I just need hope I really don't want the other thing.

in my inner ear. It seemed to progress to my chest which was weesy and of course I related this to my specialist who exrayed my lungs which was a clear exray. However no further tests transpired or were advised despite my heamaglobin level being high for 6 months. The trouble with my bodily symptoms is that they sometimes were obscure but when they were profound as was my bladder symptoms that to me were an infection and when I got to the end of my reasonable good nature I condesended to the kill or cure approach. My GP flatly refused to give me any antibiotic back in March this year despite my wife having blood in her urine and the fact that I told my GP that I too had the same symptoms I was still refused any antibiotics. I too had blood detected December but my GP said it was accepted whatever that means ! I realise it was wrong but I got Sulphamethoxazole 400 / Trimethoprim80 on the internet back in March but I have not taken them till 2 weeks ago. My symptoms are completely cured and I had no adverse symptoms while taking that antibiotic. You woukld think that due to me having 74 years of experience living in this body of mine that the medical proffessionals would at least listen and carry out more exhaustive tests when the normal negative urinalysis come back as yours did.... I might have to find a lab as you did for a further analysis to evaluate if my infection has been eradicated.
Annoying though it is I believe that although the NHS do a great deal of good work I have been very badly treated in my case because it should never happen that a patient should have to self prescribe. This of course most definately is not advisable for everyone but as I said but in my case it was death or success and of course I would not have written this blog had my treatment gone the other way !

Drink lots of water not too much soda and take these with your daily regime of probiotic.
2 tablets each am and pm of Prophresh Pro B, and 1 tablet am and pm of the AZO Yeast Homeopathic Medicine.
After 8 days of this, return to one tablet of Pro B a day, and 1 tablet of AZO in the am and one tablet in the pm.
Good Luck to your success!

Hi Cassie,
I had a similar situation and firstly I'm so sorry this is happening it is so frustrating. One thing to remember is that not all antibiotics work for everyone so the antibiotics could have killed off the weak bacteria but caused the strong bacteria to survive and replicate. I had a similar situation with no bacteria coming back in the culture but I still had symptoms of my uti. My doctor gave me a different type of antibiotics and I was cured. Another thing to remember is that it could be caused my an allergic reaction to detergent you are using. I get an I stand yeast infection and uti like symptoms when I use any detergent other than tide free and clear and that allergy developed suddenly. I developed an allergy to gluten a couple years back and the same symptoms happen anytime I have anything with gluten. Reoccurring Utis leave your urethra sensitive so watch for certain foods that could irritate it like chocolate, coffee, alcohol etc... Anytime your body is reacting it is trying to let you know to change something so start by observing when your symptoms are at their worse and adjust your lifestyle from there. This worked for me and I hope it does for you. Best of luck!

About 3 weeks ago I took antibiotics for chlamidia and of course a week later I had to have a Pap smear to make sure it was gone, well the day after I had a Pap smear I got a uti. They put me on Bactrim ds but I took almost the whole course and I still had the uti I fact it was worst. So this past Wednesday they gave me macrobid and I'm almost on day 3 and it's still burning but my pee is clear and light yellow. Any advice??

What antibiotics were you on? I was on doxiciclyn for 10 days when my kidneys started to hurt and I had blood in the urine but no bacteria showed up. It was a couple of months ago and the pain is not easing. I have all the symptoms of a kidney infection and have been ill since. All of the std test came back negative. Bacterial vaginosis can cause uti and versa versa. I am also going to see a gastroenterologist. At the moment I don't think I will ever recover. I am also going to see a private urologist with a blood and urine test as state care is useless. Hope you quickly recovered. All the best!

I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis and suffered for two years...I was offered drugs to numb the pain but refused...After 4 years when other symptoms began to manifest which were always passed over by gps as viruses, I approached a homeopath who did bloods which proved bilharzia...the bilharzia was also found in my lungs and colon. For the first two years the only sign was frequent bladder infections with permanent discomfort. Cultures would come back negative for bacteria. After receiving treatment for bilharzia it all disappeared. Many parasites love to settle in the bladder...interstitial cystitis is a misunderstood condition...its worth having parasite investigations done..btw .the bilharzia was a specific test which didn't show up on a general parasite screening..I think the havoc that can be caused in our bodies by fungi, worms and bilharzias is underrated. Hope you find a solution soon...x

Hello, I know this post is old and hope you are OK by now. But did you have backache? I'm on 2nd course of antibiotics and still suffering, blood in urine at first. My 2 nd specimen came back negative. But my lower back really aches and I can feel pressure in there somewhere. What's next? Dr at hospital said I've prob got interstitial. Is backache a symptom? Fed up with feeling rough.

Hello everyone! I have a similar problem. I have for three weeks had the symptoms of a uti. I had one course of my usual antibiotics for a week, and I still have the frequency urge to wee. Also I have an uncomfortable sensation about an inch or two above where the wee comes out. Yesterday I made a sample at my doctor's and they tested it, and they said I don't have a uti. But.....I have since discovered a small pea-size lump between my cervix and uterus. I went back to the doctor, she couldn't tell me what it was, but she said it's not big enough to be pressing on my bladder to cause the uti symptoms. My doctor in Finland has prescribed me some antibiotics which I must pay to have sent over. I am currently in the UK with my husband's work and I can't fly back to Finland until I get rid of this thing!

If you don't mind me asking, why are you getting antibiotics when there is no bacteria? You could be causing more harm taking them when not needed. I have low count bacteria and even I am not given antibiotics. There is a danger of over use and unnecessary treatment from antibiotics. There can be so so many reasons of having symptoms of uti, yeast infections, vaginal infections, flora issues, ph issues, hormonal issues. It is best to find the cause then reaching for antibiotics when not needed.
