Car Change After Hip Op...Is It Needed..!!!!!!

Posted , 14 users are following.

Hi to you all....

My first post on here, so be kind yep..lol,

Just wanted to ask a very straight forward question, to you all very nice folk. How did you find getting in and out of your motor after your op, would people say a car that is slightly of the higher  style..Say a suv type...

I’m looking to change my current car next year, was thinking ahead and thought to ask, did any of you feel a higher style car was better than getting into a lower style car...

Told you it was my first post..lol, will try to post little better as we get going....

Mega thanks for any help etc..

PJ

Hi there. The only adjustment I have made is a cushion to sit on when driving. I have a extra which is not low, but if you had a sports car I might imagine it was a bit difficult after the op.

in terms of height I would not like to get one too high

I have a Nissan qashqai and had no trouble getting in and out after my op but my hubby has a focus and I find that very low !

I am also tall if that is any help 🍷

Greetings monkeypearl, For me my camrey day my bum lower than my hip. That caused some difficulty getting in and out.

I bought a Honda crv is a small suv type.

It's a blessing no problems with it.

I also have complete server lumbar surgery.with six fusions and six laminectomies. Also my spine tilted to the right b/c i couldn't sit equally on both sides too painful. That's why it bowed out.

The DOCTOR found a suprise in that I had a hole in my spinal cord from epudirals.

All is well now. ThR healing good. But the Honda makes live better. best to you

    Hi,

im still pre op but have to have a cushion on the seat so that knee to hip ratio is not less than 90 degrees. I am told that the same rules will apply post op.

my daughter has a SUV and I find it difficult to climb in because of the height of the step into it. My car is a Yaris but I can make the seat high enough, however, I then have to bend my head a lot to duck under the doorway! As long as your knee is 90 degrees to your hip, whatever works for you.

I'd say not to high (my cousin's SUV & truck) and not too low (my husband's Miata sports car).  Our mid-size station wagon is just right - like Goldilocks said!

    Hi monkeypearl,

If you want an SUV then do your research and get the best you can afford, if you are a petrol head and have a sports car, you will mourn its loss.

I drive a 5ltr jag convertable, my daughter has said, when told its impracticle your mum drives this since her accident and subsequent THR, her reply, " mum would go into a shell and never drive if it was not a horsepower beast".

There are ways and means, what a joy it is to hit the open road again 😀

Just take care getting in and out, take your time and change when you want to change.

Ps, was driving at 6 weeks post op.

Best wishes for whatever you decide, take your time though.

    Dot x
