Car Change After Hip Op...Is It Needed..!!!!!!

Hi to you all....

My first post on here, so be kind yep..lol,

Just wanted to ask a very straight forward question, to you all very nice folk. How did you find getting in and out of your motor after your op, would people say a car that is slightly of the higher  style..Say a suv type...

I’m looking to change my current car next year, was thinking ahead and thought to ask, did any of you feel a higher style car was better than getting into a lower style car...

Told you it was my first post..lol, will try to post little better as we get going....

Mega thanks for any help etc..

    Good question!

What car is my worry also!! I am  concerned that after surgery I may need picking up from hospital by my son. His car is a large 7 seat Volvo people carrier,(don't know the model) but I struggle to get into it even now prior to op.as the seats are really high.

My own car is a Honda Jazz, would this be better?

I am looking at all aspects of the thr process both before and after in hope of being well prepared.

As I am old at 79 and live alone I need to consider all aspects of the procedure.

I have become an avid reader of this excellent forum. All questions are answered with honesty and good humour by the lovely members of this hippy community and I thank everyone for that!!

    Still undecided

If you have trouble getting in your son's car now, it will probably be even more difficult immediately post-op.  Can your son pick you up in your car?  Things are hard enough the first week after surgery.  Anything you can do to make it easier is a good thing.  Whatever you decide, I wish the the best of luck!

    Hi

ive not had my op yet, but I am currently looking for a new car, as my Mini ( her name is Connie ) is dreadful to get out of, I literally slide out of her sideways.

Ive looked at and test drove several Suv, and they are so much easier to get in and out of.

I have a Focus and I just lifted my leg in the car. When I was in an SUV the climb in was more of a strain.

    Hi PJ

    what a delightful topic ...

I am assuming that you are pre-op THR surgery ... do you have a date scheduled yet? just curious -

If I had a choice I would get me a Honda CRX type of SUV and automatic -

I have a Fiat seicento - tiny, low seats - pedals close together - manual shift - good Lord, so challenging - put a cushion on seat which made my knees hit the steering wheel -

getting in and out of my little cutie was so challenging - I am 26 days post op from 2nd THR - I am optimistic that now that I have 2 good hips, it will be a lot easier and can;t wait to drive again -

anyway, have fun deciding which one to get and test drive -

    big warm hug
