CBD oil capsules to help to reduce prednisolone
Posted , 13 users are following.
Saw a friend this week whose husband was stuck on 3.5mg of pred for sarcoidosis. She said he started taking CBD oil capsules from health food shop recently and he was then able to reduce with no flares and is now on zero and feeling fine. Think he's still taking them and wonder if he will be dependent??
The sales person in health shop said its great for inflammation and all the assistants take them for different reasons!
I have researched possible side effects, usual stuff, but also the pros sound great. Problem is it's not been tested to any degree.
Has anyone else tried it and found it helpful with no side effects?
Wonder if it's better to be dependent on a plant based substance rather than steroids.
Any views?

11% of the 252 drugs considered as basic and essential by the WHO are exclusively of flowering plant origin ie "plant based". Many others are derived directly or indirectly from them. I read somewhere over 40%. For example opiods are derived from the opium poppy. In fact cocaine comes from the coca leaf. Just because something is plant based does not mean it is free from side effects.

I take cbd but it hasn't helped me taper from prednisone. Actemra did, and it's specific for RA. No side effects from the CBD, and, no psychoactive effect. I take 5 mg oxycodone for pain at night to sleep (also have severe OA) and credit the cbd as the reason I haven't needed to increase dose of the oxy in over a year.

Actemra is not specific to RA alone. It is approved for and highly effective in reducing the pred dose required in GCA so there is a lot of sense in trying Actemra for a patient with both RA and PMR.

I used CBD oil to stop taking prednisone and it worked. I am still taking it as it helps with my sleeping and also anxiety. I think to control pain and inflamation you need to take cannabis oil with a higher dose of THC.

Hi Faye - not sure you are allowed to advertise the product on here but can you try to PM me with details of one you bought - make and strength - that worked for you ? Many thanks, Maggie

sounds familiar when I decreased it was by 2.5 from 30 til 10 every 2 weeks and now 1 mg a
month so another 10 months
at 10 mgs mornings are really really stiff ..shuffling.. then by 11 am pretty normal wonder if this is normal to be so stiff for 4 hours every morning
not seeing Rheumatologist til November
and considering only 4 miserable hours a day will hang on

thank you both for the suggestions. I think I understand the rationale about starting with Prolia, moving to the Fosamax or other similar type drug, and then back onto PROLIA. But can you explain your thinking on that so I can be clear when I speak to my rheumatologist .
My bones were really strong as I do weight-bearing exercise 5 to 10 times a week, And played sports throughout my childhood.

Can't see the second paragraph of your reply, only first sentence, as formatting different from first part. Interested to read the rest of what you said about your bones being strong and doing weight bearing exercise.....

THANKS! I think my response went to DIANA, Also one of my comments was "deleted by the moderator" ... I have no idea why. Apologies if I messed up-

We all see all responses, whoever you replied to.
Did you try to put a link or mention a name.product in the one that was deleted?

The deleted response was the one to me Bethune....so perhaps you did mention a specific product.....think these need to come in Private Messages but they may also be deleted....I'm not sure....and I sort of understand why moderators don't allow "advertising" but people are only suggesting information re CBD oil that helped them...we are all adults and up to us if we want to buy it....but thanks for the effort anyway Bethune....always best to have a recommendation if it's a good one....but I will never know...lol...x

Have you had a dexascan? Many people have thought they had good bones because of an active youth - but the dexascan showed otherwise!

Thanks Ptolomy. It cut cuts off at "we..." (for "week") on my screen, and the print for the last sentence is different from rest of post. I've seen this occasionally since the unfortunate "upgrade" to this site and don't understand why.

The EMIS moderator did explain last time it happened - I can't remember exactly, but it is something to do with spaces/not spaces at the end of lines from phones I think! And there was - ta da - supposed to be a fix.

I had a dexa scan and it was all pretty good - so I couldn't understand everyone saying vertebrae fractures were from osteoporosis.....I have since discovered my problems have been caused by extremely low VIT D levels due to a malabsorption problem since my gallbladder was removed in 1975.....my GP did put me on supplements for a while as suggested by hospital and once my levels were up, I should have been on a maintenance dose forever......BUT no-one told me and another GP (you rarely see the same one) said I could stop taking the supplements as my levels were ok ....so wrong...I can't believe I have such problems with my spine now due to this mistake....!

It really is upsetting when that happens isn't it. I now check everything after some of the errors we've met.

So Sorry... That borders on irresponsible.. Docs sometimes get annoyed with long stories but I ask them to bear with me.. the history and context matters..Its Ok to ask them if they've reviewed your file. what are you doing to deal with the osteoporosis now?

Be grateful - at one time no discussion was allowed at all! Then it was relaxed - providing no-one pushed particular brands or got too pushy about it, if you see what I mean.

I need surgery on my spine to help support my fractures but nothing has been said about osteoporosis as such - just that I need to take the Vit D every day!
